I'm signed and paid to attend Convic day 2 35pt SR event
Having read mikecro's event rules, including the benefit a painted army might have in the washup, combined with the opportunity to score a sweet model has encouraged me to pull my finger out and get some paint on to 'Beer Metal'. Go here to see the humble beginning of this project. I have just over 150pts of Trolls/Minions (the only painted models being the ones in the above thread, approx 25pts). Given the rules for this challenge I'll not be playing R&B to ensure I'm under the 50% of my 35pt list...although there is also no guarantee I'll play Borka or either of the elemental brothers at this time either. I've been playing WarHordes since early Mk1 and solely Trolls since shortly after Hordes was released. I've had some success with the little fellas, mostly best in faction...not hard when you were often the only Troll player at an event I've only played in 1x Mk2 event and then the Hordes rules were still in beta. I'm yet to decide on lists so I guess I'll just start painting and posting and see what I end up with. This post has been edited by Bishop: Jun 28 2011, 11:26 AM -------------------- Cheers

Pics continued...
![]() Gobbers & Pendrake ![]() Feral ![]() Funny looking eMaddie ![]() WIP Slag mod ![]() WIP KSB + Stone ![]() WIP SSE So as you can see, lots to work on. There is still another DTM, Bomber, 2x Impalers, and Swamp plus 2nd unit of champs, pDoomie, Grim and eMaddie plus about half a doz solos and mercs that are either in blisters, boxes or stripper that didn't make the first pic. The KSB and SSE are not far from being finished...and I'm not sure they are even going to make either of the lists yet. I've asked a question of Joel (TO) about timed rounds for the Sunday SR (yes, Til, only Sunday is the 35pt SR outside the 50pt main event but it's the only day I'm attending). Once I have his response I'll finalise lists. In the interim here's a teaser: Borka Keggie DTB Pyre Min Dygmies Min Fenns + UA Min LR's Scouts Hero So without knowing what's going to make the lists I'll start painting some of the staples and keep you updated here. BTW - got some cool ideas for basing too. 12/5 links fixed This post has been edited by Bishop: May 12 2011, 11:37 PM -------------------- Cheers

Have you seen the current NQ magazine? There's a "tribal trolls" photo in the player's gallery up the back, which reminded me of your army - dark brown skin and lots of tattoos.
The list looks good. Fewer warbeasts than I usually run, but Borka doesn't really need many of them. I'd be tempted to drop the Hero and fill up the Fennblade unit, to make the most of Vengeance. Having an extra solo can make a difference in some of the scenarios, though. -------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. I haven't yet Ben <plans a trip to MG's at lunch time>.
Thanks for the heads up and list input although this is very much a teaser list. The Hero is as much a scenario solo as a commander for 3x non-fearless units (not considering the Fenn mini-feat). Max Fenns would be nice. Could also drop the Scouts for Horthol for some more tuffalow lovin. Both are workable. Like Beasts? What do you think of this 35pt baby? It's one of my pre-bomber favorites and 'might' get a look in for Convic. Borka Keggie DTB Pyre Winter Min LR's Horthol Rorsh & Brine or swap out the faction beasts for Bomber, Impaler, Swamp. -------------------- Cheers

Update 12/5/11
Click pic for larger image ![]() Dygmies get some skin. I'm a slow painter and a healthy dose of OCD doesn't help. My original skin palette took ages to get just right for Borka and Keggie. Given the scope of what I need to do I had to create a faster method that would match the skin tone. I'm happy with where this is at atm. 1 additional level of highlight and 1 of shadow to finish it off imo. /edit link This post has been edited by Bishop: May 23 2011, 10:17 AM -------------------- Cheers

Update - Dygmies finished 24/5
A little to tidy up and maybe add some 'stuff' to the bases but I'm really liking the dark/shaded autumn colours on the bases so I'm moving on to other models and we'll see if my OCD will let it pass as is or bring me back. Enjoy (BTW linked thumbnails not always working and I'm too lazy to correct the code so it's full size images for a change...be gentle on the crit now you can see the detail...or I'll feed you to a Maori Troll ![]() ![]() -------------------- Cheers

Digging the Dygmies. I took a 50pt Borka list to Auscon in Hardcore and Steamroller, both at 50. Borka is a monster to kill and went through the entire Auscon pretty much unscathed. I also played him in a 35pt tourney once at Realm and only lost one game. My 35pt list only had a Dire Troll Mauler, there were the must have Fennblades in there, and max unit of Champs. At Auscon I ran this list for Hardcore
Borka Keggy Pyre Troll Dire Troll Mauler Janissa Runeshapers x3 2 x Full Champs KSB and UA Fellcaller I lost twice but both times on count back, and frightened the life out of the players that I lost too. I cant recommend the Janissa Borka combo enough. -------------------- Warmachine - Mercenaries
Hordes - Trollbloods (Grim; Madrak, the World Ender ;Doomshaper, Shaman of the Gnarls) These words he speaks are true. We're all humanary stew if we don't pledge allegiance to... the black widow |

I think they look great. Full-size pictures in the thread are much better than thumbnails... I hate having to click through on each picture individually

Update 29/5
Thanks for the encourage all - next work in progress (WIP) installment: Longriders. NZ never had buffalo and even now, probably only in Zoo's. Colonial NZ had some cattle shipped in so I'm guessing they had bulls too...so I'm painting these LR's as bulls. The leader rides a Hereford and the grunts Simentals. When I get around to Horthol he'll be on either a Black Aberdeen Angus or Black and White Belted Galloway (yet to be decided). Each is individualised - you just need to look close. Minimum Longriders ![]() Leader on Hereford ![]() Grunt1 on Simental ![]() Grunt 2 on Simental ![]() C&C welcome. Update 17/6
Been busy with family and work commitments but I'm close to finishing the Longriders. A few touchups to do including finishing skin and bringing the sash back to a pastel yellow. Really happy with the base theme - riverbank of a glacial runoff stream in autumn. First time using B2Base-ix water effects and it shrinks a lot more than I'd like. Lots of multiple coats and it's still below the level I'd like but I'm content to move on at this stage. Simentals are coming off the bank on to the riverbank and the Hereford is rearing above the stream. C & C welcome. ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- Cheers

Update 23/6
In answer to Roy's post - Yes, I do have a 2nd list. The original 2nd list was simply an alternate Borka list however I've been theorymachining a fun list for a while and only recently started to appreciate just how much the fun it'd bring to the table for both me and my opponent...and it's all about the fun. So, at this late stage I've made some additional purchases to complete the list and am now frantically modelling and painting to get it ready for Convic. For the painting challenge it fits all the rules as it's 100% unpainted at the moment. What is it? ![]() Appearance-wise it's very un-troll imho (maori non-blue skin tones aside) but I'm going to leave it a mystery for now and will post up distorted pics as proof of the journey which I'll replace just after Convic to complete the diary. Scroll down for teaser. ![]() -------------------- Cheers
