EDIT 21/7: This diary is no longer for Judgement of Legends in August 2011, but I am determined these guys will be finished and played with soon.

So a while back I showed this list to a certain friendly Welsh man, who cheerfully declared it "the worst ork list I've ever seen".

I was so impressed that my first attempt at an Ork list could inspire such an emphatic description that I've decided to run with it. And, let's be clear, it was deemed "worst" because apparently it will make me a lot of friends but I won't be able to win any battles. Perfect for a learner, because then I can blame my army when it becomes clear I have no idea what I am doing!

I am the noobest noob ever. I will be learning to play 40k with this army, hopefully before August.
biggrin.gif

HQ - 125 pts
"Thugg" Big Mek with Kustom Force Field, Attack Squig, Burna and Boss Pole
ELITES - 150 pts
"Booga and the Lootaz" 10 Lootas (2 upgraded to Meks)
TROOPS - 275 pts
"Bloo and the Trukk Boyz" 10 Ard Boyz, 1 Ard Boy Nob with Big Choppa - all in Trukk
"Nugget and the Shootaz" 20 Ork Boyz (1 with Big Shoota, 19 with Shootaz)
FAST ATTACK - 90 pts
"Choppa" and "Snoz" 2 Deffkoptaz with twin Rokkit Launchers
HEAVY SUPPORT - 110 pts
"Blutz" Deff Dred with 2 Big Shootaz, armour plates, grot rigger

I see these guys as total foolish scavenger types, rushing into battle without thought of safety, just of getting their hands on MOAR STUFF.

My painting skills are very limited, so I shall be learning as I go, and it will be a big achievement to finish something this big. My painting and gaming practice so far has been in the Blood Bowl world!

At least you're having a go, good on ya Sandi. When you've played a few games you'll start to get ideas on what works, things that might work better or differently, or where your list needs picking up a bit eg. pretty hard to bust tanks etc. We're watching...

Will be ready to put the worst list ever through its paces with Dark Eldar Wyche Cult. biggrin.gif

I like to tell a little story about the last man who was in a sword fight with Caine. During the fight he was heard commenting on how crappy a blade it was, old and busted, not cared for, and on and on. Finally he asked Caine what its name was. Caine grinned and said "Sword." and then shot the guy 4 times.

Hey, so, should I be thinking about making some objectives that will fit my theme? I know that the tournament is a long way off ...

I'm asking because I'm waiting for some Orks to come in the post and it might give me something to start on. Yes, I am feeling enthusiasm, but am facing a mega busy Easter weekend, so ... whether I can start anything before end of April, we shall see.

Happy Easter, peoples.

So I really don't like Mel Gibson, but for some reason my brain keeps coming back to Braveheart crossed with Mad Max when I think Death Skullz.

With my acknowledgement of this being a very beginner army, I will be concentrating on trying to make this look okay, and getting it finished - it feels like a big project, with about 40 models or so to get through.

Undercoat will be grey, I find both black and white have their pros and cons. I'll be working on trying to keep to a fairly basic colour scheme - pale brown/tan clothing, with black and silver where needed for belts, buckles, spikes, etc. BloodbrotherDave's got this gorgeous copper coloured paint though, I would love to play with - maybe on Deffkoptas and Deff Dredd and stuff. Orks are green. Death Skullz like blue. I don't think I will tangle myself up too much trying to create something completely different or I will get a bit too scared of what a big project I've got.

As it is, one of my first jobs will be using some Orks out of Assault on Black Reach and making them look like they're wearing tougher armour, as they will be my Ard Boyz. We've got a box of bits from some WHFB Black Orks, I think left over from Bishop's Blood Bowl conversions, that I'm going to raid to use some shields and arms out of to make the Boyz look tougher. Tricky for me, I won't really know what I'm doing - will be requesting assistance from BloodbrotherDave I think, but we'll see how I go.

I'm still thinking about objectives and stuff. I like the look of the Ork Barricades on Games Workshop website, which are basically piles of junk. I really see my little Orks as the worst kind of hoarders - anything and everything scavenged from wherever, so maybe I can work this into my bases and objectives if I can get clever enough. Surely there are enough bits and pieces around our hobby room and house I could pull together ...

Dropped into Realm of Legends today and got some funky looking Ork heads to mix and match. Ordered my Big Mek and a box of Squigs and a box of Grots. Now everything I need is on its way to me one way or another, and I am feeling all enthusiastic and impatient. Here yet? Here yet? Here yet?

I got home and found a parcel on the front step - a box of Ork Boyz and a Trukk!
I have put together six wheels. SIX WHEELS!
Okay, okay, a slow start, but I finally have a start.

Just made to carry your Big Mek KFF guy and his buds! You can't have a truk without wheels...

So all my troops are in my little hands ready to be built! Going up to WSWA for the day tomorrow and while the boys play I shall be getting stuck into hobby. I've finished step 7 of 9 of the Trukk over the last few nights after work. Picture here shows Trukk in the foreground, Mr Biscuit in the background. Naaaaw kitty!

Looking good so far - there's a lot of detail in those ork vehicle kits.

Mr Biscuit seems to be tolerating the Ork invasion so far...

Today I was at club watching Warmachine games and putting together 10 of my 20 shoota boyz. I did get some teasing for the slow pace of my work, but I'm really happy with the results so far. For basing I am using cork tile for rocks, with medium coarse gravel. (Later after they're painted I think I might add some tufts of dry grass or something to add a bit more interest).

Basing materials:
IPB Image

Some bases were just a bit of rock with mostly gravel:

But then I also did some chunky rock and tried to get slightly creative with some stepping up onto rocks.

Ork kits are so much fun, and have lots of room for even more fun.

Show us a test model biggrin.gif

I generally do 1 test.. then assemble everything.. then start batch painting..

Then I kick myself that none of the batch painted ones look as good as the test model... smile.gif

Looking good though!!

Good work Sandi. I would recommend not doing a test until you are all assembled.

Just because it saves you from distraction/any frustration setting in when it is your first army.

I think you are doing great and staying focussed so don't change what you are doing.

Don't forget to drill out your gun barrels or Roy will never shut up about it. wink.gif

Last night I drilled gun barrels plus a couple of pipes on the trukk, put together two more boyz and cleaned mould lines off the next set of bits to assemble part 8 of the trukk. I'm not going to glue the orks into the trukk, will paint driver and gunner separately then put them in. But will build the rest ready to go.

I also stuck together a base that was just one big chunk of cork, no gravel, but in the light of morning I think it looks a bit boring, so thinking about what else I can do with it. Or ... pull that bit of cork off and start again, that's what I'm leaning towards.

Thanks all for the advice and encouragement ... I am definitely thinking assembly first, then painting. The thing with my painting is that it is just as slow as my assembly, so a test model might end up using up too much time. Also I will be asking for help with spray undercoat, so I'm best to do that all at once because it's all a bit outside my comfort zone - I usually make Dave do it but I'm thinking I should man up!
