Just found these on the web.
Cold War! Any used them before? They are apparently a conversion of FoW to the modern era, with separate sets of lists for NATO and Warsaw Pact between 50-60, 70-80 and 80-90. Thought it might be a better way of using the new Vietnam miniatures with some more variety. -------------------- |

I did get a copy of the Flames of War - Tropic Thunder Rules with Wargames Illustrated and they are not too bad. Hope this helps? I'm playing FoF in 20mm, I'm just looking for more of a mass battle system that people will be familiar with and easy to rope into.

I'm really keen on getting into 20m moderns, I'd like to play games a step up from skirmish battles, involving multiple tanks, IFVs and Helicopters. What suggestions do you guys think for rules to play these battles, FoF or these FOW rules, or any other suggestions?

Where are you located Lujke? That would have an effect, and if you have a regular gaming club already etc. If you are having to start a totally new group of people off, then I would suggest FoF, as it is a well supported and expanding system. If you are in Adelaide I'd be happy to try and run a few games with you.

I'm in Goulburn NSW, and don't know of any other groups or gamers other than a good mate who I already play 40K with, he is keen to play a 'moderns' game. I have had a good look at the the FoF websites and forums, and it does look like it is really well supported by the developers and is really developing well. What I'm really keen to know if the game is gonna work well with using tank/vehicle formations as well as infantry, as I'm keen to play on a scale a bit above skirmish level. It would be great to be in your area to organize a few demos/games, but the distance is a bit too much, so I gotta rely on the webs for advice at this stage. |

Ah ok. Well if you aren't trying to convince a large group to adopt something different, the advantages of Flames of War and its familiarity are moot. I'd go FoF without too much worry about its ability to handle bigger games - I know guys who use 6mm figures with the game, and the upcoming Cold War supplement has scenarios with 10+ AFVs and aircraft on either side. As long as a little common sense is used I don't think its likely to bog down.
