Hey Everyone,

Thanks to those who attended Iron Man 2011.

An enormous thanks to Craig Dillon-Gibbons for stepping in and TO'ing the event when Ross ended up in the US for work.

Thanks to Ben Zagami who trialled our first attempt at getting a Gumby. Ben rocked up bright and early in the morning, army in hand and ended up getting to play all 5 games. As our volunteer Gumby he got to be eligible for any prizes.

For a first time tournament with a twist we were really excited to have a field of 16 people finishing up the tournament.

We'd love to hear any feedback on the concept of the tournament, critisism (constructive only please) is also welcome as we're happy to learn from any mistakes or changes that need to be made.

One piece of feedback we've had is that July is not so quiet a month, with Kill Count 2 weeks beforehand and Judgement Day 3 weeks after it makes it a bit of a busy time. So, firstly, up for comment is the idea that we move Iron Man to February/March as there isn't that much that happens between Arcanancon and Melbourne in Flames. The other option is September. Thoughts?

Another feedback (thanks Shaun) was maybe as a 2 dayer running 500-2000 points, although I don't know how much endurance that would take, unless we made it up to 2500 making it 9 games over the course of 2 days. And do we have enough 2 day events and not that many 1 days? Again, thoughts, feedback please.

We'd also like to hear about the tables. I managed to get round to some of the games and ask about terrain, there were a couple that need more terrain, a bit of a fix up, any other thoughts and we'll like to know.

Feedback helps us make the event even better for next year, with no feedback we assume all was perfect and we might not change anything.

Thanks again,
Maria

Hi Maria,

I think the day ran very well, and so why change a winning formula, we even finished early, which could have also been earlier if not for the Microsoft issue! biggrin.gif

I believe that the one day format would be the best way for this to continue. As a family man, as many of the attendess were too, the 2 dayers require some serious brownie points being gained, so another one day event on the calender would be great.

I also think going the extra 250 points does nothing for the tournament, it doesn't increase the fun level, and brings nothing extra to the format that you ran, so would advocate running the same points level.

The idea of being tough with all day thinking required for 5 games fits with the ethos of Ironman! Otherwise its just another 2 day tourney with and escalation component.

I will suggest having smaller numbers of players like 40-50, otherwise the time may well blow out significantly. The small amount of players made for a great atmosphere.

Just my 2CW.
Cheers for a great day!

I have no basis for comparison, but would echo that it was a really fun day from my perspective, and that as mentioned above, it being a one day event made it feasible for me to come along (doubt I'll ever have enough brownie points to swing a two day tournament.

To address your items:
Moving the date to September or Feb isn't an issue for me.

I prefer 1 dayers for the reasons Cron Lord mentioned above. And it sticks with the endurance theme that Ironman should be about.

I liked the points level, it started at a nice level that most armies can compete at. 500 points doesn't buy you much either, if you want more points with the escalation theme maybe start at 1000 and 250 point increments to 2000?

Tables were all great, although in a couple of games seemed a bit bare. I prefer more terrain (at least 1/4) but then again I do run Nids smile.gif

My specific thoughts:
Add some more time for the 750 point game. A move to 1.15 would take a bit of pressure off as my first game was rushed.

Maybe organise some pizzas for dinner? Everyone wanted to play through but a quick break keeping everyone in the store would have been welcome and a chance to chat to the guys we've been playing all day.

Otherwise keep it the same. I had a blast and will be there next year.
