Assault on Samular Prime
The street shuddered as another shell landed nearby, dislodging debris that plummeted towards the Guardsmen. Several dove aside as pieces smashed the plascrete where they had been standing. Captain Valmet Ko'Iron, commander of the first company, sixth Necromundan Regiment, smiled. Well he smiled as much as his half-bionic face would allow, which to some looked more like a snarl. His men were well practiced at urban warfare, unlike those crazed Catachans they sent in earlier. They still passed their bodies among the rubble. Lasfire blazed from ahead, lancing out from the lower two floors of a ruined building, forcing his men to duck for cover. "Target at 12 o'clock, take out those floors, now!" Ko'Iron yelled to behind him. While the guardsmen snapped off shots at the windows, missiles, autocannon rounds and lascannon blasts systematically pulverized the floors. Swiftly the enemy fire petered off. "Melan" Ko'Iron called. "Take two squads and clear out survivors. Zorec, cover the advance." The Captain strode forwards behind the two lead squads, followed by his bodyguards, and readied his bolt pistol and crackling power axe. Like a sudden acid shower, lasfire rained down from above, blasting rubble and guardsmen ahead of the command squad. Three guardsmen were groaning and clutching at wounds while two others were sprawled unmoving. The enemy mutants appeared on a walkway four stories above and poured fire down upon the necromundans, who took to what cover they could. "Clear them off!" Ko'Iron screamed into the microbead link as he took aim. The bolt pistol barked and a mutant exploded. From behind came the sizzling cracks of lasguns and the dull thump of a grenade launcher. The mutants were suddenly exposed as lasfire slashed into them and a grenade exploded. Guardsmen cheered as three mutants were blown clean off the walkway and started the long drop to the rubble strewn ground. Ko'Iron glanced behind him as the sound of moving rubble reached his ears. From where they had been concealed, autocannons and heavy bolters opened fire. Explosive shells swept the walkway, blowing the mutants to pieces or sending them screaming into mid air. In seconds the exposed walkway was clear of any living troops and Ko'Iron ordered the advance to restart. The lead troops swept into the ruins and from inside came the sound of lasguns. Suddenly, the shots were drowned out by a roar of flames and the troops outside saw mutants backlit by the napalm of the flamer teams. The sounds died out to a few wailing screams as the remaining mutants burned to death. Lieutenant Melan emerged from the building, a new trophy hanging from his belt and called the all clear. Captain Ko'Iron turned to Commissar Harok. "Satisfied?" he asked. "Adequate" was the only reply. A fierce yell made them turn as a mutant broke cover and ran screaming towards Ko'Iron. As weapons tracked the berserk enemy, Ko'Iron yelled "He's mine!" and advanced to meet the enemy. The mutant waved three blades in its tentacled grasp and Ko'Iron raised his weapons. When the mutant was only a meter away, Ko'Iron raised the pistol and fired. The mutant slid to a stop at Ko'Iron's feet and gaped at the hole in its chest. Looking up it saw one ice blue eye and one glowing red bionic staring down at it. "Meet your Dark Gods, mutant" Ko'Iron snarled as the crackling axe descended. This is from an ongoing saga based on my IG army that I write every once in a while in my spare time. Comments, suggestions and criticisms all wlecome. -------------------- It takes 42 muscles to frown...but only 4 to slap the person that annoyed you.
Aren't you worried you're evolving a race of sociopaths who care more about rapid transportation than human lives? We prefer the term "Engineers" |
