So is this basically WoT but with Mechs?

I mean gameplay wise? WoT is great because it was so easy to pick up, but its still got a lot of tactical play and variety.

On first glance, it does appear that way. I'm still waiting for my official invite to the closed beta so I can actually play the game. But you have the assault mechs being the heavy hitters, scout mechs to find out the composition of the enemy forces and doing annoying flank attacks and then you have the various medium and heavy mechs doing their thing too.

IT sounds so similar. I guess it'd be both good and bad if it was more complex. The old mechwarrior was a little more hands-on when controlling the mech (from vague memories....). WoT is a good balance between sim and arcade.

Hopefully MWO gets it right too. And has a better MM.

MWO looks like it will have more elements to it than WoT. I would be very disappointed if they removed heat management from the game for example.

I don't think that's too much to deal with in a multiplayer environment, but having a nice easy control mechanism, simple aiming interface and things like streamlining weapon selection (or firing all weapons at once) would make it a bit easier to immerse yourself.

I look forward to playing it.

Watching some of the youtube videos certainly makes it look like you can fire different weapon groups. Certainly seems to be gorupings for energy / missile / ballistic at least.

*edit - this Vid seems to describe it:

If you had to give your specs maybe they're looking for low spec machines.

Initial closed beta is likely to be pretty small and they have 110,000 members, even if less than half activated their beta profile it is still a huge pool to pick from

Yeah, it looks like the display on the right hand side of the cockpit is the weapons display and shows recharge time as well as which weapons have fired singularly or linked.....perhaps the numbers are similar to previous games where you allocate single or linked weapons to certain joystick buttons/hotkeys....

Also, the heat scale seems to be the red vertical on eo n the immediate right of the centre display.

Yeah...I wonder if your post count on the forum will have any weight in their decisions....meaning people who are posting more *may* be more likely to be more dedicated to playtesting as well as providing useful feedback...

They've talked about different world types like ice worlds where oyu can get away with more lasers because it's cold, and hot worlds where infra-red scouting will be useless.

One of the podcasts i listen to had a guy who'd played it, you shut down from overheating and can override but every time you do theres a chance all your ammo will cook off.

You forgot to give them $60 dollars ?????
I think a lot of people must have dropped money to get early access, at least closed beta means were getting close to launch now.

The founders payments don't open up until the middle of next month and it just gives you early access and/or guaranteed open beta access

The game is currently in closed beta - invite only

EDIT: It actually just says early access so it might just be a headstart type thing
