These question came up last game I had.
Is the Necron "Mind in the machine" power a shooting attack? It has to have line of sight, has a range of 18", it has to roll to take effect, and happens at the start of the shooting phase. I would tend to think it is for those reasons. If so, can it be used while the lord is in CC? Didn't come up but I would call that it can't. This one did come up: Can the lord (attached to a squad) use it against a vehicle while the squad fires at another target? I avoided this question by shooting at the same target (the MITM failed so I gaussed the target anyway). My feel is no due to my call that it is a shooting attack, but I have no evidence or rule reference to back this up. -------------------- "Light a man a fire, he's warm for a day...Light a man ON fire, he's warm for the rest of his life"

Does the power mention anything about being a shooting attack? Is there an FAQ entry to say it is? If not, then it isn't a shooting attack, and has none of the restrictions of one.

It's most definitely not a shooting attack.
The one big query over it is whether you can use it while on a command barge after the last rulebook FAQ - I chose to err on the side of caution and dropped him from my list accordingly. -------------------- QUOTE(Buddha @ Apr 12 2011, 03:34 PM) PS, Comp is for suckas. Go the 3 Long Fangs. |

Didn't the FAQ prevent people from using Fire Points to draw LOS for abilities? Aren't command barges open-topped, so you would have LOS anyway?

Didn't the FAQ prevent people from using Fire Points to draw LOS for abilities? Aren't command barges open-topped, so you would have LOS anyway? Can you fire from a open topped transport? If you say yes; then it must have a fire point to shoot from. The Rulebook implies that open topped transports have fire points. -------------------- "Hail ÆON - Slayer of the Scrubs" Yes, I really am that awesome :) |

Page 70:
"Open topped vehicles do not have specific fire points. Instead.... all passengers may fire" Measure range and LOS from the hull. Whether you can then draw LOS from an open topped vehicle NOT through a firepoint for non-shooting..... I don't know. But probably not. We can certainly measure range from the hull - but no rule for LOS. |

all passengers may fire
If you want to argue that Open-Topped transports do not have fire points, then the Mind in the Machine is not a shooting attack. If you want to argue that Open Topped transports have an unlimited number of fire points, the the mind in the machine is not a shooting attack. QUOTE If so, can it be used while the lord is in CC? Didn't come up but I would call that it can't. Ergo - no. |

Page 70: "Open topped vehicles do not have specific fire points. Instead.... all passengers may fire" Measure range and LOS from the hull. Alternately, "Open topped vehicles do not have specific fire points. Instead.... all passengers may fire Measure range and LOS from the hull" This seems to imply the whole vehicle is treated as a fire point.. -------------------- Please ban everyone.

I think the word specific tips it in favour of neil's interpretation. If the rule didn't say 'specific' then HB's interpretation would be the way.
