Is there anything in between a piece of green felt from Spotlight and the GW Battlemat?
It seems pricey, but model railway stuff doesn't immediately seem cheaper, and looks like you'd have to keep it rolled and flatten it to play. Felt would be cheap, but without some extra something it may not hold its shape. -------------------- QFT of the week:

From my small bits of research, if you want a grass mat around 6 by 4 feet, the GW battlemat is really good. The fabric construction seems pretty sturdy and it's actually competetively priced as you've probably seen.

The GW battlemat is probably the best thing they sell, price and construction wise. It's on heavy fabric, so it's very durable. At $55, you'll be hard pressed to find something of similar quality cheaper.
If you just want a grassy mat to throw in a table, it's one of the best on the market. Ironic huh? Especially coming from the same company selling the RoBB for like $500. |

Hotz mats seem good if you're after something not plain grass. The GW mat is actually cheaper I think once you factor in postage and I think looks better. However, it doesnt have hexes/other types of terrain.

Hotz is barely cheaper with postage. Is it a direct comparison? Is it as heavy and of the same quality?

If you are friendly with a sign writer they can print onto anything these days. They could print you a green field onto the same stuff they make banners out of.

I've had my GW battle mat for over 10 years, it'll still perfectly good and definitely don't regret that purchase.

I'm getting a local sign place to look into doing some battlemats up for me on the roll-up vinyl they use for banners.
They're just checking up on whether they can get enough of the 1200mm wide stock. They do the big freeway road signs, so they should be able to do it. It's just price and speed we need to work out. My test run is an urban one with diagonal street layout (streets are about 8" across) crossings and lines marked in as well. I'll post pics when it's done. -------------------- Not sent from my Lumia800 using the microwave as a proxy server.
