So the first ever Dentistcon was run on Sunday at the Newcastle Legion club and was a great success (if I do say so myself). We had 15 people turn out for the event, so close to the perfect number smile.gif

For those that weren't aware of the event, it was standard steam roller with a few minor tweaks. There was no reinforcements, the funky objective rules weren't used and there was a one use only 'Pink Dice' you could use to re-roll any single dice (yours or your opponents). I also had a ticket system for such things as painted armies, first tournament, using a battle engine etc etc to go in the draw for lucky door prizes.

It was my first time running a proper event and I had a lot of fun. Was interesting being able to enjoy a tournament and not worry about rolling up a snake eyes or running into eDenny tongue.gif. The day was played in good spirit, there were no tantrums and I only had to answer rules questions, not settle rules disputes, which made my job very easy. A big thanks to all the players for such great behaviour and positive attitude to the day!

The day was taken out by Matt Rose with his Cryx, meaning he took home a human tooth sealed in resin Key-ring and will have his name engraved in the Dentistcon mug. The Mug will be a perpetual trophy the current holder will get filled for free at the next Dentistcon all day (severely reducing their chances of retaining the mug).
Doug Williams took home the Phillips Sonic Toothbrush (RR of about $200)
Phil Adams took home a copy of Wrath
Nick Hamonet and Michael Butterworth took home vouchers to HobbyHub.co through the ticket draw
Jason Dennis took home a voucher too because he showed up and played with an army he had never seen before, belonging to a faction he had never seen before having only played battle box games previous. He won two games as well!

Full list of placings can be found at Rankings HQ Dentistcon

Some photos!

Marty's battle engine getting a caster kill on Fiona! Had to get a photo of that!

There was an unhealthy amount of Cryx at this event however, I think there was 3 Terminus lists

See! More of them!

I didn't get to give out as many "Beat Mick Fair" tickets as I would have liked

Well done Cam!

I will definitely try to come up for a few Newie events this year. I just hope they don't clash with our local tourneys.

I will do my best to make sure the next one doesn't! Would be great to get the Sydney guys up again. Wish the Tin Soldier ones didn't start so early :/

Who donated the tooth? Or was it just one of the random ones you swept up off the floor after a day of butchery at the office? tongue.gif

Awesome Cam!

Sydney/Canberra/Newcastle really need to tee up their timetables much better. We all had tourneys on this sunday!

This definitely this, my schedule for the day was Menoth, Goreshade Bane spam, Terminus Bane spam, Terminus Bane and Mechi-spam. I ended up conceding my last game because I was just so tired of having to fight walls of tough rolling Cryx.

You're doing it wrong!

I ended up playing Trolls, Gators, Cryx and Cryx. My first game was the only one that was fairly light on, I didn't kill all that much. As the fog of my hangover slowly peeled away during the day I butchered more and more as I went on. In fact, the Cryx armies both conceded far more points to me than the others.

I mowed down plenty of Thralls, I actually came first on army points killed, it just got a little dull having to fight the same thing repeatedly.

We just need to get the cryx to trade in their banes for something more interesting. smile.gif

Here's the breakdown:

Cryx - 5 (33%)
Khador - 1 (7%)
Menoth - 1 (7%)
Cygnar - 1 (7%)
Scyrah - 0
Mercs - 2 (13%)

Trollbloods - 3 (20%)
Skorne - 0
Legion - 1 (7%)
Circle - 0
Minions - 1 (7%)

--------------------
---------------------------------------------------

Unless something changes, it'll stay the same.

You do realise....you were playing Trolls yourself. This is the same phenomenom that most people experience when playing ALL Troll armies. Cryx only really manage it with Terminus.

Honestly, the Banes (as much as I hate them) casued me almost ZERO problem. I had pretty much the perfect counter to be sure, but I was far more concerned about the Mechanithralls. Between tough and the mandatory Necrosurgeon lurking at the back, it can take a LOT of work to put them all down. The fact that they cost basically nothing is further insult.

As for the army count....the spread was pretty good. I didn't realise that there were 5 Cryx armies, but I am also kinda shocked that I had the only Khador army on the day. I may have to drag my Circle along to the May tourney, although a little more tweaking for the SS is also in order.

I'm not complaining about the tough bit, I'm complaining about three virtually identical match ups in a row being bit dull.

Did you end up winning them 2 out of three as you got more experienced at beating that type of force ?

I was thinking the same thing, however I resisted because my only reply was going to be:

Wah!

On another note I was suprised by the general lack of Hordes and then lack of Khador. I couldn't turn 180 degrees at GG without smacking into at lease 4 Khador players last time I was there
