Okay, so I got the Battletech introductory box set including a Loki and Thor mech.
Where to now? Browsing this forum, I can't see army lists or other info about getting rolling. Also can't seem to see points costs for getting balanced factions together. Where would I find stockests? Many gamers about? Is the box set (code 3500A) the up to date rules? I enjoy tabletop gaming, and am keen to recruit some others to play with so looking forward to this one. Seems fairly straight forward and quick action which will help some less experienced TT wargamer mates Cheers, Theo -------------------- |

Nice move dude!!!
Yeah, the rules in the Introductory Box Set are the up-to-date rules. I don't have the box set myself so I am not exactly sure what is in there, however I do know the rules in there are the latest and are also a cut down version of the full rule book, which is called Total Warfare... I know Lex played a few games with the Intro box set using the rules etc in there...starting off with a very basic game and then introducing new game mechanics as he played more games (his wife kept kicking his arse though The game is designed for play on hexed based maps, however you can also play with what is called miniatures rules, which are a free download on the Battletech Official Website. If true tabletop gaming is more your style then you might prefer this style of play where everything is converted from hexes to units of measure (cm or inches). Mechs, and all units in the Battletech game, have a BV (Battle Value) which helps balance out play, although it's not perfect. As for stockists, well Milsims in Melbourne stock a small amount, but as far as I know, that's about it for Australia. Most people buy their stuff from either Iron Wind Metals in the US or Ral Partha in Europe.....ebay is also an option of course. Not sure where you are, but in Brisbane there are quite a few guys who play regularly...Mister Anderson on the forums here is very active in organising games and playing. There's some good software around for use with the game as well, to construct and print out your Mech sheets. One particulalry good one is free as well. To buy Mechs; http://ironwindmetals.com/store/index.php?...d6a7ae90895b759 http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/battletech-c-1.html The Official Battletech Forums; http://bg.battletech.com/forums/ Free software for designing and printing out Mechs; http://www.solarisskunkwerks.com/ -------------------- “Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jewelled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet.”

As that set is one of the most recent releases, you can be assured it is the most up to date set of rules, and also contains an introductory version to ease you into the more detailed level of rules. As the 'dude has mentioned in his post above, Total Warfare is the "bible" when it comes to Battletech & if you can't get your hands on one of the reprints that has the errata in it, it is available from the official website. If you do want to go with "official" factions then look to the MasterUnitList website if you want to find out who has access to what: ![]() Currently they only have what is available in the Jihad era but hopefully they'll update other era's soon. But if you go Mercenary you really can choose whatever you want, you don't have to go by official canon. A good place to find paintjobs for your minis for certain units in the Battletech universe can be found here: http://camospecs.com/ This post has been edited by MisterAnderson: May 27 2012, 09:22 PM |

Within all the downloads are random generation charts for creating units. You can also check out some of the books created for Warden Clans, Crusader Clans, and the various Inner Sphere powers. Mercenaries, Periphery, and WOB + Comstar have their own source books. At the back of each book there is a random chart for force generation. you roll for the mech's sizes, lance experience level, and then roll for each mech. For a more balanced game you can get the Heavy Metal Program and use the BV2 ststem for force genaration. There is also an inbuilt roster generation menu within the Heavy metal programs. I hope this helps. -------------------- The world is chaotic, so why not join the party. Slaanesh welcomes you with open arms.
