Please forgive the noobness but this happened earlier in the year at a tourney and it just occurred to me I may have fair better.

Paladin unit with one of those characters that have those fancy psycho something grenades multi charges 3 of my hunters. Basically charged in one long line would have easily been about 18 inches across. Used that nade and rolled for it's effects on each squad. Needless to say I copped everything from 1 attack, to 1 initive etc... And got annihilated.
Can that character roll for every enemy his squad has charged or should he only roll for the squad he's in combat with?
Also he told me I couldn't roll my counterattack because the attacks at 1 effect overrides it.
Cheers

Yes, you can charge multiple units with the IC attached and effect all those units with the grenades.
Yes, you roll separately for each unit.
No, there is nothing stopping you from using counter charge with those units.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like that game played out exactly how it should have, will have to keep the guys further apart next time.

the roll that says you get a maximum of 1 attack means you can roll for you counter attack, there is just no benefit... With counter attack you normally would get 3 attacks, however the max 1 does override it.

The interesting roll is the one that makes you leadership 2, does the psycho grenades happen before or after counter attack? Are you doing your counter attack at leadership 2.

The other interesting thing is against things like black templars where you are using say the marshal's leadership, if a unit is made leadership 2 due to Psycho grenades, are they leadership 2 or are they the marshal's leadership?

Woops, that is true. This said you should be rolling counter charge at the same time as the grenades as their trigger is the same. Also by the marshal's rules and grenade rules the unit's leadership is set to 2 but they use the marshals leadership anyway. This said Black Templar are fearless in close combat.

Counter attack is done after pile in moves; the grenades are done at the start of combat so they will be Ld2 for Counterattack if that result is used.

The Models Ld is 2; if it uses the marshals leadership then they use his Ld. Similar to termagaunts using the Tervigons Ld

Reference for it occurring at pile in?

Counter-attack states:
QUOTE
"To represent this when a unit with this rule is assaulted by the enemy it must take a leadership test."

- Page 74 BRB

Psychotroke grenades state:
QUOTE
"When a unit equipped with psychotroke grenades launches an assault, or is assaulted, roll a D6 for each enemy unit being assaulted or assaulting to see what the effect is. The effects of psychotroke gas only ever last for the duration of a single Assault phase."

- Page 60 C:GK

Unless there is a delay between a unit "being assaulted" and when a unit "is assaulted" they are simultaneous actions. Unless there is a FAQ though.

Like Psykotroke gernades, Counter Charge is done at the beginning of combat and only lasts the initial phase, not successive phases.
