For someone who apparently doesn't play to win or care about the result too much Speedhump, you sure do go on about it a lot.

Different people find fun in different aspects of the game.
Just because someone tries to write a powerful army list doesn't mean they are choosing to enjoy 40k 'The Wrong Way.' If you want to take a casual Ork / GK army, then that's your choice. But you have no right to expect people to try and take casual army lists. 'Fun' is a subjective concept, and people enjoy 40k in different ways. -------------------- Vulkan's Corner

Except people who choose to play it the "wrong way" ie powerlists, often squelch the fun for people who play fluffier, weaker lists. Which isn't fun for them. So you know, try to pick your playstyle and list for the atmosphere of the event...

The only way to enjoy 40k 'the wrong way' is to be a rude, cheaty-face jerk. Playing with a strong army doesn't mean that.

A reminder why I stopped playing at comps for so many years.

The way you go on, it'd certainly be preferable to actually playing against you.

Back on topic, I like to see fun "different" armies. I like to think while we don't have comp that we still retain "Best Army" as a way to reward those hobbyist who tend to be in it for the lols, but put a huge effort into their fun army....
Even though I have a tendency to bring more powerful lists (at least competitive, and sometimes verging on harsh), I have also liked a change of pace to bring something less tough in an attempt to play with the funster crowd. I think there's room for all types of hobbyist in our events, and especially with a range of eventstyles there to help cater for this sort of thing. Saying that, I seem to notice at quite a few events the phenomena of such armys playing against each other in the later rounds of the event and you can quite often wind up with some specatacular cionematic looking tables sat the lower end of the field. Vive le difference. There's a place for each style of hobbyist and no one "right way" to enjoy it. Good tournaments will tend to try to cater for as broad a spectrum of different styles of player as reasonably possible. I'm always on the lookout for innovative ways of doing same... Right now I'm attempting to build up a 'nid swarm. I might get a pleasant surprise and it goes well, but without any Hive Guard or Zoes to my eyes it looks vulnerable and weak. I'm sure nothing would please me more though, especially after a long string of losses, than to face up against the crazy Orky list of complete randomness. Win lose or draw I'd expect to have a fun game and can well imagine it'd help make my weekend more enjoyable. -------------------- Official ACADEMIC LEMMING Lords of Terra 2013 will run 20th & 21st July, 2013 Venue Blacktown Bowl 6th Edition NO COMP!!!!! 1500pts, NO IA armies but "40K approved" units are allowed- may include allies and/or a fortification as per rules 50% Battle! Same old argument hey, you do realise that 'fun' to some people is kicking dogs and so on.(just because you enjoy something don't make it good)

I mentioned it before, but it bears repeating.
Fun is subjective, and people draw fun from a hobby in different ways. Be proud that 40k has a multi-faceted approach to who finds what entertaining. If you think I'm joking, consider Warmachine. It's a go for the throat game system, with little reward for the serious hobbyist. They don't even have a painting category (or sports) it's all battle, battle, battle. Part of the reason I appreciate 40k, apart from the game, the fluff, and the models, is the way the tournament system is constructed. It's all variable, and allows a player to select an event that they feel suits their playing method. For most 40k players (including myself) tournaments and conventions are a way to work in more games and have more fun painting and playing what we want. At the end of the day, when 40k has been played, it's a good day. I'm not trying to discourage Speed-hump, and if he feels discouraged because of something I said, then I apologize. But I make no apology for the way I enjoy 40k. I build powerful armies, I paint like a three year-old, but most of the people I play with recognize that I'm not so bad to be around. I've never had a bad game of 40k in all my years. I guess this is more of a generic social comment, but put it this way - if you rely on other people to try to get enjoyment out of a hobby, then it's going to end in disappointment. Most people will agree with me on that. -------------------- Vulkan's Corner

While I like fluff and theme based armies, I really, really dont like "Lulz" silly stuff. I was drawn to the 40k universe because of its grimdark and the more that's accentuated the happier I am TBQH. Joke stuff strikes me as somehow breaking the 4th wall in a way that I dont enjoy - engaging with the meta but discounting the spirit of the in-game universe.
That said it's a matter of taste. I probably engage with the aspects of the universe that are the ones that some think are heavy-handed and may make some quite uncomfortable. I like my CSM as satanic as possible, my Astartes as "genocidal zealot posthumans" as they can be, my Dark Eldar as fetish-perve as they can be modelled and my guardsman totally forlorn ww1 Wilfred Owen style cannon fodder. All those years of Heavy Metal (both the music and the comics magazine) have taken their toll -------------------- "I dont want to hear any more talk about "Strategy". We chop a hole. I keep seeing hints and pieces of something terrible going on beyond, enough to put together an awful, unsettling picture." |

The only "Wrong Way" to play is anyway that pisses off your opponent.

It doesn't matter if its a tournament or social game, its all just entertainment anyways. The best games I have are the ones where I spend half of it talking smack laughing my azz off and dry humping my opponent when something awesome happens....yes this is also why I receive top sports scores, you all know you like a good dry humping mid game

QUOTE Since this is a game between two or more players, it is rarely soured because of one person. you need to play some of the people around here, there are 2 people that at different times have made me stop going to a certain club or event simply because they are going to be there and id rather bash my head against a wall than play against them.
