2 glade riders. the riders took 11hrs 20min, the horses and bases took 7.5hrs. This time i've remembered to fix the pic's lighting before posting wink.gif

IPB Image

The snow is just Jo-Sonja's texture paste. Straight out of the container. It has a tacky consistency and is so easy to work with. It dries white. It dries hard and is not brittle (as in try some on paper and when it dries it can be bent 180 degrees with no cracking or crumbling). It does not flake off. A thick blob, ~4mm, will dry to a healthy pile of snow. A thin blob, ~2mm will dry shaped as the surface texture its on (noticeable on the sand bits), though still opaque and white. Its tacky and sticky consistency allows it to be applied in precision areas (i've applied strips on the thin branches sticking out of the logs. And it only takes 20mins to dry. This stuff rules tongue.gif
I bought it from Lincraft. Normally used to paint onto smooth surfaces (e.g. platic ruins) so that when drybrushing there is a fine sandy texture.

Where do you get that Jo Sonja paste from? I still don't have anything to make snow with here.

Great work weisern. :-D So are you planning to a unit like this or is it just practise? Your painting style is brilliant and is improving every time I see something new. I particularily like the bases that Jo-Sonja's texture paste works really well. I would also like to know where to get some if that is ok. Also what do you use for dead grass? Being in Tassie I am very restricted by what I can get at the local modelling store. They didn't even have any testors dull coat. :-o Keep up the good work weisern.

Arithon, you'd probably have to ring around at a lot of hobby stores and find someone who will post it out for you. (the testors I mean)

thanks guys and girls!

The Jo Sonja's texture paste was from Lincraft. i bought it 4yrs ago. they should still stock it for the Jo Sonja range of products in Lincraft stores these days is huge.

the static grass is just brown static grass from a hobby shop.

Australia Post will not let you send aerosol cans. i tried to send one (testors spray dullcote) to a friend in Warragul and they said no.

Hey Jamie, no i'm not painting a unit of gladeriders. these are an encouragement gift for a friend.

thanks piggles!

i time myself if i can get a model done on the same day or consecutive days. after each sitting i jot down the time (on the paper i'm roling my brush on) rounded to the closest 1/6, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 hr. if i know i won't have the consecutive days (with the exception of GD painting where i was writing all the colours and times on a separate card) to do a model in one hit, i won't count the time simply because the dirty paper gets chucked out.

the longest i sat down and painted for without breaks is ~5.25hrs. the average is about 3hrs. the longest day was ~11hrs. this is painting and resting sensibly (non of that 24hr nonsense) so that your hand can still paint the next sitting.

Actually you can, as long as they are posted by road only.
I get mine posted out from a hobby store, granted its in the same state, but as long as they are stickered with the road travel only sticker, they should be able to go pretty much anywhere.

Excellent looking models Weisern. The bases really loook nice!

Pity snow bases don't really fit with the Dirz fluff though huh? wink.gif

Great tip about the Jo-Sonja too! I'll have to get some from Lincraft

Thanks warpuppy!
The Dirz get their funky treatment with lab bases tongue.gif There is one base i can't wait to paint up (though its 3rd in queue).

These are the first ever snow bases i've done and i'm really happy with the texture paste. i guess that's out of my system now (the need to do a snow base). I've read all sorts of other difficult methods (baking soda, paint, water with risk of yellowing; woodland scenics snow flock, needs many applications and still flakes / rubs off) and this was just so much ease and dries flexible/durable with no crystalline apperance. just that look and feel of soft snow that Manfred Hautz (fredy on CMON) got on his GD winning Tyrion.

ooh, on a different note, i saw Luke McFarlane today and his alternate 40k single mini which is now painted up. it looks sensational. he said he just got onto WAU and hasn't created a profile yet. he will enter this mini for conflict Melb 2006 and will no doubt win.

For those of you not near a Lincraft, Bunnings (or at least my local one) stocks the Jo-Sonja range as well - picked up the textured paste for about $9.00.

Thanks for the tip - very happy with the product :-D
