Hi all,

Locally we are running an escalation series of 40k where your models must be painted or that unit will suffer from the "preferred enemy" rule.

I have a fair few painted armies already and instead of taking the easy option of using one of those I took the opportunity to tackle a tyranid army that has been lying dormant in my shed.

Deciding on the colour scheme was a bit tricky. There are lots of awesome nid schemes out there but as usual I wanted to do something different. In the end I chose to do a leopard print pattern. Overall I think it looks sweet and surprisingly enough It doesn't take all that long to do, which is good when you're painting nids.

On to the photos:

I'm really enjoying painting these guys at the moment and getting them cranked out pretty quickly too. This is my 500 points worth completed. Hopefully next week I'll have the next 250 points finished.

These guys look sooo much better in real life, but man the bases need something else to make them really pop.

Yeah I should do something about the bases..... I may do something simple like add a small pile of rocks on each one of the bigger ones. I don't think its worth it to add something to the termigaunts bases.

I'm just hazarding a guess here so Drone can give us a yay or nay to this answer but I would say what he has being doing it putting down a dark brown spot then coming along with the lighter colour and putting another smaller spot on the original. Thus creating the impression of an outlined light spot with dark edges.

I have to say its very very effective; these models are really quick striking but I have to agree the bases really let them down overall though.

I would suggest scraping them all together and with the additional 250 points starting a new on some pre-made resin bases or going with a different basing kit prehaps something like Arid Grasslands. Since that would reflect why this particular irregular colour has being chosen by the Hive Mind.

Ha all the spots are is a black dot with a brown smaller dot on top of it. Ranko is taking the piss out of my wife who thought the effect was done by painting a black ring around a brown dot.

painting is awesome and the basing is too green for the colour scheme you choose, I suggest savannah, long straw coloured grasses and sandy ground to match the leopards habitat.

I refuse to believe that your significant other of the fairer sex could possibly think you didn't do everything the hard way. I mean why else would a grown man play with war dollies. tongue.gif

why paint black around a dot when u can draw?

IPB Image

when doing something like this a fine line pen is fast. You could paint the brown then just run black around the edge saving you a painting step. I use these heaps for doing crack and edges. Its so easy and effective it feels like cheating. I have painted leopard print before by doing black dot then inner brown dot but the pen was so much faster and looked the same.

Im not saying change what ur doing because it looks great just that i have done this trick.

the painting is really well done armata_PDT_37.gif . but the bases need work. i wouldnt do anytihng to radical with the bases. I think they need to be a solid colour even if u just did small rock/gravel base painted black really lightly drybrushed grey (a slate look) it will match well with the colours and really make the leopard print pop. Because atm the green is taking the attention away for the model.

Amazing, when I read leopard spots I got bad images in my head, but you have done it exceptionally well.

Well done dude, really original and striking. Now if only you didnt live in bum###### nowhere we could have some games. Oh well, just seeing such a nicely done army is good enough.

And your lucky your mrs even bothered to look at them. When I ask mines opinion about a paintjob she gives the models the same dead look I give her when she asks if I like her shoes.

Cheers man, Ronin
