Like the subject says:
What are the most memorable role playing game settings for you? I dig: Creation (Exalted) - This place is so full, so rich, perfect for epic adventures for demigods with something to prove. Terra Nova (Heavy Gear) - While a game involved with giant robot mecha can end up silly, heavy gear puts it a plausible context, with some great characters and a very engaging planet to run around on. Barsaive (Earthdawn) - Fantasy setting that just works. Horrors, ork scorcher tribes, troll sky raiders, Therans, blood elves, dungeons and a magic system that make sense! Honourable mentions: the sixth world (Shadowrun) Ebberon (D&D) Darksun (D&D) Rokugan (L5R) Please share! |

Creation would have to be a favourite
Shen Zhou (WotG) is another favourite, although this is more for the way the setting is described (by parables and legends, opening each of the background Loresheets). The Iron Kingdoms are another favourite - I don't really like the D&D mechanics much, but the IK setting has convinced me to play and run a few games. Probably the most atmospheric "gritty" fantasy setting out there, although it scales up well to handle heroic stories. Haven't played much sci fi lately, although I've heard very good things about Heavy Gear and A|State (post-apocalyptic science fiction... imagine Dickens writing cyberpunk and you should have the idea -------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. Warhammer. I just like the fact it's not so bright and airy fairy. It's grim, gritty and grusome. 8)

As a teenager & into my 20's, Forgotten Realms was my favourite. But now, I'd have to say Cthulhu...

I'm already have to go out and get the WotG because of your infernal adventure pdf, and it looks like I have to look into A|State, just as I'm reading Perdido Streer Station, and happen to love the Difference Engine. Time to be poor again! I also agree with Azugal about the Warhammer world. A friend ran a game of WHFRP not long ago, and it's awesome. It just feels so much like warhammer, the dark, brooding places; casual, brutal death at any moment; magic that's powerful, dangerous, and ulimately the tool of chaos. |

MERP was brilliant just for the sheer deplth of information the ICE modules gave you - even if a lot of it was at a power level most parties could only dream of achieving (stats for Sauron, anyone?
Warhammer FRP is a wonderfully dark and gritty setting. I quite liked the premise behind the Shadowrun gear, too, although I've never actually played it. The ICE Dark Space setting is quite cool, too. Sort of cyberpunk meets cthulhu. -------------------- Jesus saves, Allah forgives, Cthulhu thinks you'd make a nice sandwich.

SLA Industries. dark and evil very opressive all in prime time.
Warhammer FRP dark and cool Shadowrun had heaps of fun playing that, and my mates jamacian orc character cracked me up all the time. and there was this other one i cant remeber the name of, about super soldiers/heros who have to return to normal life where everyone hates them? Deadlands and Deadlands hell on earth both have a cool feel too. and last i would say Brave New World (?) another super hero game where JFK survived his assassination and imposed marshal law and still holds power today, all super mutants must surrender themsleves for national service and failure to do so makes them outlaws. -------------------- QUOTE I like to tell a little story about the last man who was in a sword fight with Caine. During the fight he was heard commenting on how crappy a blade it was, old and busted, not cared for, and on and on. Finally he asked Caine what its name was. Caine grinned and said "Sword." and then shot the guy 4 times. |

Ars Magikca 4th edition best setting i have ever played in. Dont have a group to try 5th edition.
GM original creations, these are more fun than any other as they are more fluid and changable. Also the players only know as much as the GM wants them to know so i find they work a lot better. 7th Seas -------------------- Its not necessary for warhammer to played like Irish boxing. Trading blow for blow in a fair fight is silly if you are the weaker fighter.
