I've gradually come to realise that without a specific project and deadline, nothing ever moves out of the ever-growing "paint it one day" pile. The Wrath of Kings models from their Kickstarter arrived ages ago, but without an event to aim for they've just sat in their box... until now. I'm planning to build and assemble enough figures for an Intro-sized games day at the end of April, along with a couple of friends.

House Goritsi
IPB Image

Sneaky, fast-moving, hard-hitting glass cannons. My kind of army.

House Goritsi are also full of Confrontation-style werewolves (the Skorza), supporting the Zeti vampires and a few human mercenaries (the Ravenscars). After opening up the "extras" box from the Kickstarter, I have enough models to build this as a starting force:

Leaders (2 ranks)
- Ravenscar Sergeant (Commander)
- Zeti Dance Master

Infantry (12 ranks)
- 3 Ravenscar mercs
- 5 Zeti war dancers
- 2 Skorza Skirmishers

Specialists (2 ranks)
- Skorza Shield Breaker
- Skorza Scourge Hound

At the moment, they're just a pile of little plastic bags and sprues. The bases are all hollow, and seem to be designed with resin inserts in mind - I didn't order any of those, so I'll make my own instead. If I can scrounge some up, I'll stick with Warmachine/Malifaux bases for anything needing to be elevated, saving a few of the hollow WoK bases to use for water effects.

The plastics are interesting. They've used polystyrene sprues for thin/sharp weapons, and PVC (similar to Alkemy, PP etc) for the rest of the figures, so the weapon blades have no warping issues. Casting quality appears to be excellent - I've checked about half of the figures in their bags, and there are hardly any visible mould lines.

Not sure whether I should try out a Rackham-style non-metallic scheme for these guys, or try some "true metallic" techniques - either way, I'd be learning some new things as I go. Any suggestions?

I'm excited to see what you do with them Ben, I've got a huge box of them from the KS and haven't had the chance to do any assembly/painting/gaming. From the few I looked at the minis are very well cast, very little cleaning required.

I think the NMM Rackham style will suit them really well.

Looks like NMM is the way to go, then! Good opportunity to practice it some more, and figure out how to paint more types of metal.

Can't believe these have been sitting unopened on the shelf for about a year already... I only have one faction, but it's still a lot of figures to leave in their boxes for that long smile.gif

Getting started on the bases:

The Zeti are much, much smaller than the Ravenscars (almost scaled like 25mm Infinity figures), so I'll put them on taller bases to make the human-sized figures look a bit more closely in scale. Looking forward to trying out some water, moss and lichens on these ones smile.gif

Awesome, looking forward to this. I have all my models still in boxes mostly... painted a few goritsi and they're nice.

Quite nice detail on these figures - I'm looking forward to getting some paint on them.

I've now put together half of them, though I think I've run out of cork to do the other bases. These might be the first models in ages that don't get the usual sand/PVA treatment, as there are some nice textures on the bases already.

Definitely worth getting them out and painting a few up smile.gif

I've just finished all of the assembly now. Next step is finding a day when the humidity is low enough to undercoat them - that may take a while, looking at the current forecast...

Very little progress all around - I've started painting them, but adjusting to the change of hours with a new job has meant I haven't picked up a brush in about a month sad.gif

Out of the group who were going to play the WoK campaign, one has a baby arriving in a few weeks, another has been in the UK, and I have a baby on the way in a bit over two months... I suspect that this will be a late-night painting project without much actual gaming for a while longer wink.gif

Ben, you not painting for a month is not good.

I do love looking at your diaries.

Hope to see some progress on this (don't worry about the Alpha legion for a little while).
