A short while back, I finished off my largest commission job yet, but had promised the buyer that I wouldn't show it off until after the event that he wanted it for...

Well, that event has come and gone, so I can finally unveil a Special Ops-themed Space Marine army in the Under The Couch Commission Gallery.

IPB Image

This was a hefty project, which included Teleporting Assault Squads, a stripped-down Dreadnought, and retooled Tactical, Devastator, Scout and Terminator squads.

Despite grossly underestimating just how much work was involved in this job, I had a lot of fun putting it together, and have heard from the buyer that it (obviously in its fully painted form) took 2nd place for Best Army at the Liber Animus IV on the weekend.

You can see the entire army here.

Wow, love that Librarian, consider that his sword idea stolen armata_PDT_37.gif

Was there a reason for leaving the Termies so bare, whilst all the rest are loaded to the nines with gubbinz? Don't get me wrong, they still look cool, just a little 'out of place'.

Yup... the sensors are all a little more 'built-in' on TDA. It didn't really seem necessary to add extras... they're supposed to be the pinnacle of Imperial engineering, after all.
And the lack of pouches and the like is simply because they're not required, and wouldn't work... they're not going to get a power fist into a magazine pouch. At least not and still have a pouch in one piece afterwards.

So that basically just left them as bare-bones combat machines, rather than the usual Imperial walking decorations... which fit the army theme quite nicely. Or I think so, anyway smile.gif

Fair enough armata_PDT_01.gif

Still though, I think that they would've looked cool with those swirly things that the Tacs have.

The swirly things are the Assault Marines, they 'teleport' not fly, so the swirly things are the Teleporter's.

I must say its awesome to see the bare plastic and what went into converting them.

I saw the fully painted version on the weekend, when you combine such awesome conversions, with Golden Demon winning standard painting, it really makes for something special biggrin.gif

Top work Insaniak, I would say 100% commision job success, you lived up to your usual 1 mini standard of excellence on an entire army scale.

Cheers,

Tom

Yeah, I prefer 'Swirly things', it sounds more technological tongue.gif

You know like how in DoW the termies could upgrade to personel teleporter.

Don't say another Goddamn word. Up until now I've been polite. If you say anything else -one word- I will kill myself. And when my tainted spirit finds its destination, I will topple the master of that dark place. From my black throne, I will lash together a machine of bone and blood, and fueled by my hatred for you this fear engine will bore a hole between this world and that one. When it begins you will hear the sound of children screaming- as if from a great distance. A smoking orb of nothing will grow above your bed, and from it will emerge a thousand starving crows. As I slip through the widening maw in my new form, you will catch only a glimpse of my radiance before you are incinerated. Then as tears of bubbling pitch stream down my face, my dark work will begin. I will open one of my six mouths, and sing the song that ends the Earth.

Their backpacks have little gubbinz built into them that represent the personal teleport unit. The swirly bit is just the teleport effect...

Edit: Nearly forgot: The bolters are from the Scout Biker box.

That’s just bloody fantastic, very talented stuff there mate I have always liked your work.
