From TWF:
4 new plastic kits (dragon / hero, Commander / Prince kit, two mages kit, and chariot kit... chariot is interesting in that it gives you options for either the Tiranoc, or the White lion chariot)... core will NOT be redone New Khoril Model / Pheonix guard hero / Master of the Shadow warriors! New shadow warrior models. 5-pack box. All Highelves strike first in hand to hand. Period! Swordmasters come with 2 attacks confirmed! Pheonix guard get a 4+ward (never mentioned if it is a true ward, or in combat only etc... retain Fear) here is the one that almost floored me... 6 special and 4 rares! @2k... I really hope I just went crazy and didn't read it right when I saw it. -------------------- Vagabonds Club

I really hope that the special and rare thing isn't true. If it is- then surely bolt throwers will now be one per rare choice, not two per rare choice. Having said that though- I'll wait until I have the book before I make any judgments.

Wouldn't surprise me - nothing much changed from the greenskin's core choices (apart from night gobbos).

6 special and 4 rare? Well they must have given it to them for a reason, maybe they need it. Perhaps they will follow suit with dark elves and become a MSU stype army, and they need all the special and rare available to them.

Its because theres no core cavalry and an absolute butload of specials to choose from.
from what I understand Core is just: Arachers Spearmen LSG Rare is: Eagles RBT Special is: Everything else. -------------------- www.RhysAronson.org

At least it means we'll be seeing a lot more spearmen, archers and seaguard (well, at least 3 units in each army anyway!)

Actually I am fairly sure I read you only need 2 core.

Pity the core aren't being redone, their horses are ugly and those spearmen with their hulk-sized hands on their spears are ridiculous

High elves are going to become the bane of wood elves by the looks of things.
HE vs WE step 1: shoot em up a bit step 2: magic em a bit step 3: let em charge and beat em up a bit. I don't imagine there will be a great deal of mini's left in WE combat units by the time they get to strike! ^ Anything that is "the bane of Wood Elves" is A-OK in my books!
I actually think the new rules means that there's going to be a definite 'step up' between elite HE infantry and the regular infantry in other armies (HE spearmen *should* tear through just about any lightly armoured unit that is silly enough to charge them in the front arc). The HE infantry blocks are going to be suddenly able to receive a charge - in the case of Swordmasters and Phoenix Guard, even from a unit of heavy cavalry. That's something that will go a long way to making HE infantry based lists viable. I'm looking forward to these changes, because HE are a cool army and I'm hoping this will mean I'll get to play against them a lot more, but more importantly because it will hopefully give a little bit of insight into where they're taking my Dark Elves next year! |

Is it me though, or does the blanket rule of "always strikes first" across the board seem a bit excessive? So can you imagine great weapons ALWAYS striking first? Dragons? Horses? WTF.
Even if mounts don't count it's still a tad excessive... ?? -------------------- QUOTE There aren't any rules in the game that prohibit me from reaching across the table and punching my opponent face in either. Doesn't mean I do it. |

soo..
if someone was to start a new HE army, a couple of battalion boxes wouldn't go astray? (or would it be best to just get 1 box?) |
