Weekend went well, a sizable amount of players rocked up and it seemed as though people had a good bit of fun. There were very few rules disputes and the ones that required a judge's ruling were generally swiftly resolved. The standard of painting again soars this year with quite a lot of well converted and painted models being picked of by random dice.
The scenarios actually worked out quite well. A couple of math-imps got into the scenario list and caused havoc on one specific scenario, but other than that they flowed quite well, and I think my favorite one to play was the one involving strategems. The Strategems were not straight out of the Apocalypse book, and they were very balanced. Personally I wasn't a fan of the "paired" mission, partly because it was the last game of day 1 and it took a lot of concentration to keep track of what was effectively four mini-armies. But that was more my problem and not others. All said and done it was a good weekend of games, and all of my opponents were good sports and had nicely painted armies, which made it better. It was also really close. Before the final game it was a three way tie for 1st. Only one of those people ended up placing though when it was all over, sportsmanship, painting and Army comp can help rocket you to the top. That and getting a MASSIVE amount of points in the final game. Grats to the trophy winners, and good game to all those who participated. Though one thing that I'm still amused at (and it's probably just me) but the Sportsmanship award was being contested by the two ork players of all things. not complaining. Gareth-Excellent weekend mate, superbly run, look forward to turning up next year.
The only mission I wasn't really a fan of was the pairs mission-Probably because if I hadn't had the tanks of the IG on my side on game 3, I would've got my rear end handed to me. Army comp was a hard one for that to, because you can't really avoid being cheesy if you want to take the best units you can from each force. Cheers, ML -------------------- Vulkan's Corner

Hi All,
Thanks to everyone who came, I hope you all had a good time. It was certainly a pleasure running the tournament for you all. For those who left the prize giving after it finished, an error was caught in the last round results (one score enter back to front) that changed a few of the place orders. The end results were 1st overall Luke Jensen (changed from Jeff Rogers) Best General Jeff Rogers (changed from Steven Clarke) 2nd Overall Ben Smith Whatley (Same as before) 3rd John Steed (Changed from Luke Jensen) As such I have John Steed's prizes, and my sincere apologies for this error The other prizes were as follows Player's Choice Michael Cruise Best Sports Ryan d'Argeavel Best Painted XingJun Seaton Max Wallace (wooden spoon) Matthew Rush Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to all those who filled out evaluation forms, they will help improve the tournament next year. Final standings and scores will be posted sometime tomorrow (and a cross table if I can manage it), once everything is all sorted and I get some sleep! Finally, I will be posting an evaluation form for those on the forums who were considering coming and decided against it to fill in, so I can a get a clear idea as to the reasons, and to try and take your point of views into consideration for the next year! ANUCON results, containing painting, sportsmanship, final battle and overall scores can now be downloaded from http://cid-f821991c8cadd93f.skydrive.live....8%20results.xls
Sportsmanship is out of 10 (6 scores averaged, with bottom dropped)). Army Composition is out of 20 (15 from entry composition and 5 from player (6 scores averaged, with bottom dropped). Painting is the average of the two judges scores and is out of 10. Battle is the sum of the 6 rounds, each out of 25 (so total is out of 150 potential points). The overall is out of 100, and is created from the previous scores. For those of you who could come but chose against coming, I would appreciate you emailing me at woodenchessman@hotmail.com with your reason(s) for not coming, as well as any potential proposed solutions or alternatives you may have so I can consider it all for next year(I figure this is easier for you than filling in a full evaluation form). Thanks again to all who came, I will post a tournament report once it is complete and hopefully I will see many of you at ANUCON'09. Gareth Oliver |

Good to see the results spread, thanks Gareth.
I was really pleased to see was the overall high scores and close grouping of sports scores. It is great to see you can have a competitive tournament and so many enjoyable games had by all. And no-one stood out as a really poor sport. I was really chuffed to pick up the painting prize too. Thanks guys! But I was really surprised to see how close I was to 3rd place. I got completely smashed in 2 games and figured I was right out of contention. Maybe Ryan's orks are just a bad luck charm for me? -------------------- My Tyranid album.

Yeah, coming second was good, but realising the low comp score and second-worst sportsmanship brought my ego back down a bit. I blame the cat. :{>
