Was thinking of packing an assault squad without jump packs, in either a Rhino or with a Drop pod (which would be hella cool).

Just curious if anyone has played with this idea and how it worked out for them?

Cheers!

So... they're hot? =P

Back to my question - are assault squads without jump packs effective, especially if you can combine them with a free rhino or drop pod?

from the games i've seen they're not as good as with jump packs as if the rino gets taken out they tend to be heald up, and the inability to assult out of the vehicle tends to hold them back.

however they are'nt to bad as a counter unit when them orkses get up close on your tac's

For rhino & drop pod, they'll be stationary after getting out but not sure for 5th ed rules for drop pod. Good if they dont get shot to pieces.. tongue.gif For me i would prefer LR for assault squad like BC as they can assault after deploy, 15 BC assaulting is no joke armata_PDT_14.gif

They're more effective with Jump Packs.

Any assault unit in a land raider is awesome, Assault termies are a much better investment but.

I comp based on an arbitrary scale of 1-5, based on how many units have the letter A in their name, how many multiples of 69 units have, and what colour the models have been painted. Works pretty well for me.

First, ask yourself the following questions:

a. Are you a douche?
b. Do you not want to make friends?
c. Is your name is Simon Hall?

If you answered yes to all of the above then you may take two Steam Tanks.

1 Attack on their profile.

Effective with or without jump packs?

LOL

No.

2 CCW does not an assault unit make.

I'm inclined to agree, but despite their name I don't think Assault Marines should really be used in an unassisted assault. They're more of a supportive unit, held behind your lines so they can jump over other models and pick on weaker enemies (or just tying up potential threats). They also work as a good mobile flamer platform, too (or other special weapons for Chaos wink.gif).

they pass for an assult unit cos they will take a while to do it with three attcks in the first turn but they should be stayong around with their 3+saves a bit longer for the next round and the unit has a higher initiative than alot of the units you would send it into, eg orks, meaning that it will be taking away strikes back, plus their manuverability means you should be sending then after that heavy wepon right down the back so your tanks can move up safer
