looking at adding either a leman russ exterminator or 2 predator destructors. The 2 preds are cheaper and obviously the better choice (4 auto 12 hbolter vs 2 auto 9 hbolter). But the leman russ is fluffier. Should it affect my comp score that much? What is your opinions? What should i go with?
From what I understand I have to follow the Space wolves codex points values for the leman russ exterminator. Not the new gaurd codex. Is that right? |

Yeah, the LRE is as per the SW codex. The SW FAQ doesn't discuss any changes to that entry.

I'd go the two predators. Two targets for your enemy to take down and more firepower. Downside is lower armour values, but multiple targets should be better than higher armour.

For fluff purposes take the russ, or take one of each if you have the points, you should not take A comp hir for two preds and i like the higher av on the exterminator my 2 cents worth.

What does fluff have to do with it. It is an imperial guard tank and a rarity even in the Space wolf army. Read the unit entry more closer. Space wolves didn't even have access to russes before their 3rd ed codex, before then it was all predators.
Compared to fielding an imperial guard tank that is named after your primarch, taking two space marine tanks isn't actually worse in terms of theme or fluff. You may get marked down because people will dislike multiples of heavy support. You pay the value in the SW codex because your tank has BS4. Unfortunately you miss out on the new super-awesome extreminator cannon but them's the breaks. -------------------- something something something

Predator/s are just as fluffy as a Russ, so either way you wont take a comp hit. Besides wasn't it the space wolves who came up with the predator annhilator? So in regards to fluff two predator annhilators would be even fluffier.

Hi albz,
Are you intending to make and paint this force this year? It may be worth waiting to see what goodies a new space wolf codex brings you for Christmas. If they include a Russ Exterminator in the new book, it will probably be very similar to the IG version. The autocannon turret the IG get might sway your reasoning back to the russ. 4 twin autocannon shots +armour14 +possible move and shoot rules makes it a very competitive option. If you want to do this force soon, go the two preds. If you can wait, hold off for the new codex. -------------------- What's the opposite of repent? Advocate? |

thanks for the feedback guys. Im going to try the Exterminator for the next few games and see how it goes. The armour 14 in 5th ed can be a pain to take down, 1 less kill point and i like the idea having the name of the primarch is the list(dont see exterminators in many wolves lists). If goes badly might change to the 2 preds and have 30pts spare lol.
I have all the models made so i can trial and error. Wow did the wolves come up for the annihilator thats awesome. I cant wait till the new wolf codexs comes out. So excited!!! |

Yeah they sure did. I don't know how that fluff stands today, but it was back in 2nd ed when the annhilator was released. So really the annihilator is to the space wolves as the baal as is to the Blood Angels and the Crusader is to the Black Templars. Obviously the Blood Angels dont wan't any other chapter using their predator varient so have a patent pending on it
