[40k][JoL10] Sons of Loken, Sons of Loken - 1750pts - Finished - new pics Options

Hi,
Thought I better put in my first post.
My modeling history is a common one, involves painting quite a few large 40K armies, rushing them all to get them on the table. Hence resulting in average looking armies, with maybe a couple of stand-out from the mediocre crowd miniatures.
Hopefully not so with this army, no batch painting and slowly painting each one pushing myself a bit. I’ve discovered the wet pallet and it has been serving me well so far.

Fluff overview. (Rough outline)
Garviel Loken' is main character in the beginning of the Horus Heresy. Loken is a captain of the Luna Wolves 10th Company.
Loken like most of the members of his Legion, he is a native of Cthonia, the world where Horus was found by the Emperor. During the Heresy Loken was able to see the corruption of Chaos for was it was as it took hold of Horus and most of the Legion around him. It was his devotion to the truth at all costs, and his loyalty to the Emperor that ultimately placed him at odds with those who followed Horus into darkness.
Captain Loken’s courage and strength has made him a very mobile officer in the Luna Wolves. He was soon accepted into Horus’s inner group the Mournival.
The relationship between Loken and his Mournival brother Abaddon became strained as his calm, thoughtful personality clashed with Abaddon's. Despite this, they stood together with Horus as he led an attack on rebel forces on the moon of Davin. When the Warmaster was mortally wounded in battle there, it was Loken who opposed the idea of taking Horus to a temple of Tzeench on Davin to be healed. While Abaddon and Aximand opposed him, Tarik stood with Loken. The rift in the Mournival nearly came to violence, but Loken chose to wait and see the result.
This cost him the trust of not only his two Mournival brethren but also of Horus himself. It was at this time the Luna Wolves were renamed the Sons of Horus. Now falling into the grip of Chaos, Horus chose Isstvan III to dispose of those he could not count on in his new quest, to dethrone the Emperor and rule the galaxy himself. Loken and Tarik were sent to the planet to be slaughtered by virus bombs launched from the Warmaster's fleet. A warning from their friend Captain Tarvitz gave them enough time to seek shelter and thus survived the resulting virus plague and the firestorm that followed.
With the betrayal now obvious, Loken and Tarik took up the name Luna Wolves once again to symbolize their split with the Sons of Horus as they openly fought against the Warmaster's Legions. They fought a defensive fight for several weeks before the final battle, in which Aximand and Abaddon traveled to the surface to confront Loken and Tarik face to face. Loken fought bravely against Abaddon but he was critically wounded, and we are led to believe he died in the final bombardment of the planet from Warmaster Horus' fleet.
The Imperial Fist made planet fall on Isstvan III a month later, searching for survivors and purging any of their unclean brethren.
Amongst the ruins, they located Loken’s devastated body, ravaged by exposure to the bombardment and untended wounds.. but alive. Other saviours from the Luna Wolves were found and rescued by the Fists.
The remanets of the Wolves were taken to Terra to heal, but unfortunately Loken's wounds where beyond healing.. The Emperor made a decision not unlike his own, to encase Loken in a sarcophagus of a Dreadnought so he can continue the fight and exact revenge on the Son’s of Horus, Later to become the Black Legion after Horus’ death.
The Emperor marshalled Loken and a number of the survivors to create their own chapter. The Emperor named them the Sons of Loken in his honor.
Given Loken’s sacrifice and that of his surviving brothers, Loken was given the choice of how best to use the resources at his disposal. Sons of Loken where given a ship and decided there efforts where best placed around the Eye of Terror, hunting and purging heresy where ever it lie. The Chapter’s ultimate goal is hunting down The Black Legion and facing Abaddon again.

Test mini is looking sweet Tomsey. Nice to see some decent pics of it rather than those fuzzy ones earlier... If only the pic was bigger though.

If I manage to make it along to FNF remind me to bring my camera so we can take some better quality shots.

You have really 'pulled out all the stops' on that marine. If you can keep up that sort of painting across the army you should be very pleased with yourself.

Well haven't had much time to do much given it's summer and all that comes with the season, plus who can be arsed painting whens it's hot.

Anyway, picked up most of my bases from RoL (still got a few coming)

I'll rename them 'Cult of Hetfield'

But I would like a name change, Death Panthers, Death Stalkers.. not sure, I'm no good with names.

I want something that impresses they are on the hunt, whilst being a rough old bunch not too far removed from space wolves viking, but more post apocalyptic scavenger/warriors. (without turning into a were wolf, not that there is anything wrong with that)

Hopefully more Pics to come tonight, 50% finished my flamer dude, Brother Ulrich.

Nice, Death Magnetic. I'd have to put more black and silver into the paint scheme.

Considering my list for JD, won't win too many games but it is with the view to expanding into a larger force. Every unit besides HQ is scoring which is a bonus.

The armour on the flamer marine is looking great.

Have you considered putting a bit of orange onto the flamer barrel, to show light reflected from the flame? At the moment it's a bit contrast jump from the dark metal cowling to the bright jet of flame.

I thought of doing that but didn't trust myself to pull it off.

But after reconsidering, whats the worst that can happen, I'll give it a go... thanks for pulling me up on it.
