++ Bulletin #1: Monday 21 December 2009 ++
Warmasters! Thanks for registering for Arcanacon 40K; we have officially raised the number of players to 200, so this it folks, over the top! PLAYER LIST You can see the full list of Registered and Reserve Players here: http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83064 If you are a Reserve Player, keep painting, and submit your list on time. We expect at least 30 dropouts between now and 23 Jan, probably more. If you are a Registered Player and find that you are unable to play, please either contact us or sign yourself out on AON. We have 60 players keen to take your place. ARMY LISTS Army lists are due Friday 8 Jan 2010. We strongly recommend you get them in earlier, in case of computer failure or other disasters. See the website for how to format your list and theme and where to send it: http://40k.arcanacon.org/selection.htm If we don't have your list by the due date, you'll lose your place on the Registered List and drop back to the bottom of the Reserves. As Arnie would say: Do it now! SPECIAL GUESTS & TRADE STANDS We have some awesome special guests this year: * Matt Weaver and Brogan Clark from Australian White Dwarf will be coming along to play. In between games, track them down and ask them about what's coming up. * Aaron Cains from Back-2-Base-ix in Adelaide will have a display stand of all the latest cool gear from B2B, including awesome game counters as well as new bases. * Darryl Greenhill from Stewarts Trophies in Brisbane will be on hand to talk about the trophies and custom-cutting he can offer for your event or personal project. * Ross & Maria Armstrong will be bringing the Realm of Legends drop pod, packed to the gills with their largest-ever range of convention specials. * Nicholas Mundy from Dice by NASM will have his full selection of dice. GET SOME PRACTICE The Games Workshop Camberwell Battle Bunker has 12 gaming tables set up and will be open all January for 1200 pt practice games, as well as Arc 40K veteran staff who can offer list and modelling advice. There is also a special free one-day 24-player mini-tournament called "Lightning Arc" with 3 games at 1200pts to be held on Sunday 10 January. Contact Dan at the store for more details. 752 Burke Road, Camberwell, phone 9813 3302, open Wednesday to Sunday. Realm of Legends is also open every Friday night for gaming, and will continue to do so during January as the event gets closer. RoL will be offering an emergency hobby supplies hotline in the last week before Arc, in case you run out of Devlan Mud at the last minute! Maria also reports that quite a few players have been coming in to get materials for display bases; RoL carries a full range of scenery supplies. Visit them at Realm of Legends, 1 Harry Lacey Lane, Croydon. Phone 8215 9344 TYRANID CODEX TOO LATE, ALAS We regret that we will not be using Codex Tyranids 2010 at Arc this year; the 16 Jan release date is just too close to the event, sorry. Realm of Legends will be bringing the full slate of new releases to the event if you're so busy painting you can't make it out of the house to your local GW in the week beforehand. SPREAD THE WORD With all this coolness, there will be plenty to check out at Arc even if you are not playing. Visitors only pay $2. Tell your friends! If you have a friendly local store, do us a favour and print one of our posters for them: http://40k.arcanacon.org/files/ARC-2010-poster.jpg YOU CAN HELP With the rise to 200 players, there are two key ways you can help us: 1. We need terrain. If you can supply enough good quality terrain to cover a 6x4 table, please send us an email. We offer a Best Terrain and a Random Terrain prize. 2. We need volunteers. If you are free on Friday 22 January from 2pm, we'd love to see you at the venue to help set up. If you can be there, please get in touch. FURTHER INFO For any further info about the event, see our website, or follow the lively discussion on WargamerAU: http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showforum=4 So: are you ready for the largest 40K event ever held south of the equator? We are! Cheers, Mark For War All the Time ARC XXVIII 40K http://40k.arcanacon.org/ -------------------- ARCANACON XXVIII 40K

++ Bulletin #2: Wednesday 6 January 2010 ++
Warmasters! By the emperor's gonads (which have long since shrivelled up, but anyway), Arc 40K is a little over two weeks away! We're excited, with just a frisson of outright panic, and hope you are too. All is actually going pretty well: we have unbelievably awesome trophies under construction; we've received a massive case of incredibly cool dice; we've been playing the missions and they're all crackers; Steef is painting his fingers to the bone to get the new Fez Chaos Army ready; and Neil Dorney has promised me a black fez. The omens are all solid for another rockin' year! ARMY LISTS DUE FRIDAY MIDNIGHT This is your last army list reminder. They are due this Friday at midnight, but for the love of Khorne, get them in now in case your computer blows up, Friday is gonna be 36-degrees for Kroot's sake! Remember, if we don't get a list from you, you get automatically shunted down to the bottom of the Reserve List. So, if you're a reserve, get your list in and get ready to leapfrog the slackers. Everything you need to know about submitting your list is here: http://40k.arcanacon.org/selection.htm And here are the top ten mistakes you may make in the process: http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86243 DARKSIDERS PRIZE DRAW THQ have given us a copy of the videogame DARKSIDERS to give away; it's a new action game from Vigil Studios, for X360 and PS3. As THQ bods we got some preview copies of this monster, and it's actually taken the studio by storm; it's like a cross between God of War and Zelda (with all the good bits of either; plenty of kick-ass, no wearing of little green suits). You're all in the draw to win a copy just for signing up, and the winner will be notified on Thursday 7 April – which is the very day that Darksiders is released. You can find out more about the game here: http://www.darksiders.com/ LIGHTNING ARC IS THIS WEEKEND Lightning Arc is a great new pre-Arc event arranged by Dan Attrill of the brand new and very nifty Games Workshop Camberwell Battle Bunker. It's a free event to be held this Sunday 10 January. Players will play 3 games at 1200 pts, and while painting is appreciated (and will increase your score), it is not required. In other words, the whole point of this event is to test out your freshly-submitted Arc army under tournament conditions. Plus, it's also a chance to check out Melbourne's newest and coolest game store! GW Camberwell is at 752 Burke Rd (2 mins walk uphill from the train station), and there are just 6 places left in the event – to register, email: ![]() NEED MORE ARMY TESTING? Don't forget that every Friday night is Arc testing night at Realm of Legends, bring 1200 pts and the will to win! http://realmoflegends.com.au/ BLOOD RULE FOR THE BLOOD RULE GOD The Blood Rule has been a long-standing tradition at Arc (with a nod to the flying Dorney brothers, the original battling family) that we don't think it's much fun to go to a big tourney and end up fighting someone you live or work with. If you are coming to Arc with your brother, partner, workmate, or are traveling from country or interstate with someone, email us and we'll fix the draw so that you don't end up fighting each other. WHO'S IN YOUR CLUB? It's another longstanding tradition that we have a Best Club prize at Arc. If you are a member of a club (must be a full organisation which accepts any members), let us know, and we'll team you up. CNC Miniature Scenery are donating a fabulous club prize, as always. IN SPACE HULK NO-ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM As much as we talk about the 40K, don't forget that Arcanacon offers a whole weekend of gaming – and your $60 entry fee for the 40K means that anything else you play is free! If you're free on the Monday, get along to Melbourne's first ever 3rd edition Space Hulk event – check out all the details on the Arcanacon site, and register via your AON account (select Edit Timetable from the sidebar): http://www.arcanacon.org/2010/events/spacehulk.html THAT'S ALL That's plenty – and anyway, you should be finishing up your army list and then high-tailing it back to the painting table. See you in a fortnight plus change! ++ Bulletin #3 (final): Tuesday 19 January 2010 ++
Warmasters! Arc 40K 2010 is so close I can almost smell it... which is a timely reminder to shower and deodorise, people! And yes, I mean on both days. We're almost good to go; the sound system is about to load in, the missions are printed, the Stewarts Trophies have arrived, the prizes are piling up, the special guests are packing their gear, and we've recruited a small army of trained baristas to get you started each morning with real coffee at the canteen. It's on like Ghazkull Kong! We now interrupt your frantic painting schedule to bring you the latest news. There's lots here, but all of it is important, so please take the time and read on: ++ PLAYER LIST ++ The final player list is here: http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83064 ++ REGISTRATION ++ Registration opens at the convention at 8:15am on Saturday. The cost is $60; cash only. You must be at the venue and registered before 9:30am. If you have an emergency, call Mark on 0411 238-427. If you are not there before 9:30am, we will give your place to a reserve player. If we don't hear from you at all, you'll be subjected to the Arc 40K ban hammer. ++ RESERVES ++ If you are a reserve and you are at the venue with your army at 9:30am, you will get a spot if there are any available. We'll give them out in the order on the reserve list. If we have our full 200 players, any remaining reserves or visitors are welcome to use the open gaming tables, and we'll arrange a one-day Fringe Arc 40K tournament for you to play each other for a small prize. So, even if you don't have a place, come along! ++ VISITORS ++ Visitors are welcome all weekend; entry is only $2. Visitors must report to the rego area and get a Visitors badge; so, if your friends plan to drop in, please let them know to come and see us first. ++ SET UP VOLUNTEERS ++ We will be at Collingwood College setting up on Friday from 2pm. If you are free, please come and help! Email me to offer assistance, or post in this thread: http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=87426 ++ REALM OF LEGENDS PAINTING SUPPLIES HOTLINE ++ Standard opening hours at Realm of Legends in Croydon are 10am-6:30pm Monday-Friday and 10am-5pm Saturdays. But, for any hobby needs pre-Arcanacon you can call the shop number (8215-9344) until 11:30pm through to Friday 22nd of Jan. Ross or Maria will meet you at the shop to open up and assist with any last minute emergency hobby supplies. So, if you're on a painting roll and run out of Devlan Mud, rather than pack up brushes for the night you can ring in, come to the store and stock up! Get the address here: http://realmoflegends.com.au/ Realm of Legends will have a fully stocked trade stand at Arcanacon, including all of the new Tyranid releases at convention discounts. And yes, they take EFTPOS! ++ THIS YEAR'S CHARITY ++ This year our appointed charity is the Glen Lyon CFA, protecting the Daylesford Region. Space marines are make believe; CFA volunteers are real. They are currently trying to raise funds to build a shed for their new truck; let's help make that happen! ++ SATURDAY ARMY DISPLAY ++ We encourage all players to set up their armies for player choice voting on Saturday lunchtime. Setting up your army is optional, but it will be very cool to see all 200 armies at the event, and tons of photos will be taken. Please set up your armies in the gym, four armies per table. We'll hand out voting forms at 1pm. ++ SECOND HAND SUNDAY ++ We'll be running the usual second hand stall on Sunday. To sell items, you must be a registered player. Please bag each lot and attach an envelope with the following in block letters: your name; your 40K player number; description of the item; and the price. Sellers can set up their goods from 8am Sunday; we'll open the store for buyers at 9am. Buyers will bring the item to 40K Rego, where we'll take the money and put it in the envelope for you. Although care will be taken, we accept no responsibility for goods left on the second hand table. There's no charge for this service, but we urge you to consider donating 10% of your earnings to the Glen Lyon CFA. ++ THE ARCANABAR ++ New liquor license laws have come in, and the sale and consumption of alcohol has been restricted to a single designated area. The bar will be situated near the barbecue, and will operate at lunch time, between the afternoon sessions, and at dinner until 10pm. We regret that you will not be able to drink at the gaming tables this year. ++ NO SMOKING ++ All Victorian schools are non-smoking areas. You must entirely leave school premises if you wish to smoke; that includes the loading bay. Don't make us get out the cane. ++ SECURITY ++ We recommend you keep your valuables with you at all times. Do not leave any valuables in your car. You may store valuables behind the rego area, feel free to ask. Please help us by sending anyone without a badge to the rego area, and wear yours at all times. After 8pm on Saturday we will lock down the venue; access to the 40K area will only be via a one-way door, call Mark on 04112 238-427 for entry. ++ DARKSIDERS PRE-REGISTRATION WINNER ++ Congratulations to Deborah Sajdl, who was drawn in our pre-registration competition. She has won a copy of Darksiders on PS3. Darksiders kicks seventeen kinds of arse, and is in store now; we have one more copy to give away during the survey raffle, on your choice of PS3 or X360. http://www.darksiders.com/ ++ AND MORE PRIZES ++ We have a ton! Check out the updated prizes page for everything on offer this year; we've also added a lot of info about conditions for certain awards, read more here: http://40k.arcanacon.org/prizes.htm ++ THAT'S ALL ++ The biggest 40K tournament ever to be held in Australia is mere days away! Keep painting, and stay pumped; this should help, play it on high rotation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kS4mRgd2NA Cheers, Mark For War All the Time ARC XXVIII 40K http://40k.arcanacon.org -------------------- ARCANACON XXVIII 40K

Don't forget to bring your Arcanacard and proof of ID. See you there! *There is no price reduction on bulk prices for collectable card games and case prices of collectable miniatures. *No Laybys, rainchecks, cash/credit/eftpos only please. SPORTS SURVEY For some reason the sports scoring was lower this year than last year. As a community of gamers, I'm sure each of us would like to get as many sports points as possible, and if we miss any, to find out why so that we can improve next time. So, we'd like to invite all 2010 players to email in their sports feedback to 40k AT arcanacon DOT org, under the subject "Sports survey". Please answer two questions: 1. "I gave some opponent(s) good sports score because..." and list some of the exact reasons why you marked some players up at Arc 2010; and 2. "I gave other opponent(s) a lower sports score because..." and list some of the reasons why you marked other players down at Arc 2010. All emails will be strictly confidential. We'll take the names off and compile everyone's feedback into one big anonymous collection and post it on WargamerAU so that everyone can read and think about how to get max points in 2011. COMING EVENTS The 2010 Melbourne 40K tournament season is about to wake up in a big way. Coming up on Sat 27 March are two events: the beginner's tournament Project Genesis at Outpost in Beaconsfield, and a doubles tournament at Games Workshop Camberwell. Lurking just on the other side of Easter is the big one, Melbourne in Flames, on Sat 10 & Sun 11 April (tickets are still available). There will be an email bulletin on the arc40k mailing list in a few days time with all the news. STAY IN TOUCH This is the last email going out to all 2010 players (for real this time!). From now we are switching back to the permanent arc40k mailing list; if you were a new player in 2010 and you want to stay in touch, go here right now and sign up: http://arsimagica.net/mailman/listinfo/arc40k-l Keep getting ready for Melbourne in Flames, and see you at Mind Games next Thursday night!
