Hey Guys,
I'm Christian, I'm starting this modelling Diary as part of WarGamerAU Warriors Tale of Many Gamers running from Jan 2010 until July 2010. And because I'm incredibly lazy I picked to do Ogre Kingdoms. On the bright side that means I get to spend more time on each model, doing conversions and lots of bad-ass layering, while all the other chumps (you know you're a chump Conan), spend their time dry brushing the rank and file.

So first Up, The 2250 Army List:

--------------------------------
HEROES
--------------------------------
1 Tyrant @ 318 pts (General; Brace of Handguns; Heavy Armour; Luck-Gnoblar x1)
1 Tenderiser
1 Wyrdstone Necklace
1 GutMaw

1 Butcher @ 180 pts
2 Dispel Scroll

1 Butcher @ 180 pts
1 SeigeBreaker
1 Skullmantle

--------------------------------
CORE
--------------------------------
3 Bulls @ 126 pts (Extra Hand Weapon; Light Armour)
3 Bulls @ 126 pts (Extra Hand Weapon; Light Armour)
4 Ironguts @ 272 pts (Full command, look out gnoblar, war banner)
20 Gnoblar Fighters @ 40 pts
--------------------------------
SPECIAL
--------------------------------
2 Leadbelchers @ 126 pts (Full command)
2 Leadbelchers @ 126 pts (Full command)

--------------------------------
RARE
--------------------------------
6 Man Eaters @ 540 pts (heavy armour, Brace of Handguns)
1 Bull Rhinox Rider Thunderlord @ 185 pts (heavy Armour, Iron First)

Nothing too exciting there, pretty run of the mill ogre list. they run up the to the other side of the board and hit stuff with clubs, well as much as they can hit with WS 3. Then they all get their dance on, like the ogre suit from Dire Maul.

Now onto the theme for My Ogres. Since I'm a nerd and like comic books and video games and really bad 80s cartoons, That's what I'm doing on my ogres. We're having X-men Ogre Bulls, Transformers Iron-Guts, Ninja Turtle Gnoblars, Street Fighter lead belchers, a He-Man Rhinox Rider. Well thats the plan anyway... lets see how I go with it.

first up Concept Art:

I've only done 1 so far for my Ironguts, thats how they look in my mind. They may look a little different in badly sculpted green Stuff.

Month 1.

As Part of the Tale, I need to assemble 500 pts of models, and paint 250 pts worth.
But i've just spent all month finishing painting my Wood Elves for Dogcon. So I went for the Easy way out and first month I painted the expensive stuff first.

I glued together a tyrant, and painted 3 Man Eaters. Now I haven't done any cool theme conversions on these guys. That's because I played against a fully converted ogre army at dogcon, and it annoyed the crap out of me that I coudln't tell what was what in the army. So My Heroes and Man Eaters are staying normal, to avoid confusion.

And besides that I did my first conversion , I got an ogrebull, sculpted a flat top out of green stuff and big X-gut plate, and made a Collossus Ogre Bull.

Just finished the Green Stuffing on my Cyclops Ogre Bull.
hopefully it'll come out alright when it dries, i think i went a bit too much yellow and nto enough blue. I was having trouble with the greenstuff not sticking to the model.

Interesting concept, if not one I would ever do myself.

For anyone thats ready the thread. I'm trying to figure out my Colouring for my conversions. Do i stick with the original Comic / Cartoon Colouring? or do i change the colours a bit to make them more uniform.

I'm debating how to paint my cyclops. the default blue and yellow, or do i make him red and yellow like the rest of my army is so far. I'm pretty sure in the marvel Vs Capcom videogames you could play as red cyclops and he looked not too bad.

anyway, heres a quick mock up blue and red i did in photoshop.

I'd go with the original colours for your army mate, keep it real!

I like the look of your conversions too, though a bit of smoothing would certainly help, especially on the X symbol on the front of them.

i've been having a bit of trouble with the greenstuff not sticking to the models. when i smooth alot of the time it just slides off the model. So i've just been getting in where i need it, smoothed or not.

is it the blue or yellow that makes for stickiness? i might be mixing it wrong

I am pretty sure it is yellow. Try doing 60% yellow, 40% blue and make sure you are not wetting the model to much.

Great army concept! And you're off to a good start by the looks of things. With the green stuff problem, try washing your model with a bit of soapy water and drying it thorougly before you start. Sometimes they get a bit greasy when you're building them/handling them and it makes it harder for the GS to stick. 50/50 works for me too! smile.gif

Hey guys, I haven't done much in the last couple of weeks.
I've been enjoying a break after painting woodelves non stop in january for dogcon.

anyway, had a day off work and study today, so i whacked some paint on the old cyclops ogre bull. And he came out okay, despite my mediocre greenstuff skills.

not sure who i'm doing next to finish off the unit of 3, i'm thinking either (gamit/nightcrawler/angel/storm)

That is hilariously brilliant. Really.

Go Gambit, with a great big flappy coat. You know you want to.

I do, It was the one i was tempted to do the most. I'm just a bit scared i'll stuff it up. so far i've only really greenstuffed litte extra bits not entire limbs, and i want my gambit to be a bit more dynamic, like he's about to throw some cards, so i'll probably have to rip out the knees and make my own to pose him, and make my own arms.

I'm assuming drill a hole in the shoulder socket and get some wire, so make a rough guide for the arm would be the way to go. If anyone has any other suggestions on how to do it. let me know.

I have some minotaur arms that might suit, just need some carving and slight greenstuff.

Alternatively just give him the trenchcoat so his arms are hidden.

Just for you sam. I finished my converting for my Gambit Ogre. definately the most green stuff heavy thing i've done so far. learnt a fair bit from doing it.

its going to be good to have a whole unit of 3 together and painted. should get some painting time early next week.

thanks for the replies guys. I'll get the gambit mini painted this week. and get the rest of my painting done with a hero since i'll be needing it for my 1000 pt game.

not sure what unit to do next though, i need another core so more bulls or some ironguts?
and if bulls, should i stick with x-men ogre bulls, incase i want to run a bigger unit one day, or try another theme.

so what would be a better 1k army list for ogres.

bruiser/butcher/bulls/bulls/maneaters?

or

bruiser/butcher/bulls/ironguts/maneaters?
