Another another commission diary, another challenge - this time painting the first army since I started that actually uses a standard GW chapter/army and colourscheme. That said, I have twisted it a little bit to suit.

The theme for the army is the classic 'deathwing board a spacehulk and whoop some genestealer hiney', so ive been supplied with some lovely space hulk termies on industrial bases from back2basix, with a smattering of regular termies with all sorts of dark angel and FW bling thrown on.

Test scheme is a little more solemn and cold than usual deathwing as I feel it fits the theme nicely...and deathwing with lots of bright red and green end up too 'merry christmas' IMO. Too much directly contrasting colours = not good - usually have to take one colour up or down a notch.

test colorscheme

as far as i can remember, the army will include:
Belial
Librarian
2 squads of regular termies
terminator command squad
terminator assault squad
2 dreads
landraider
3 objectives (from space hulk bits)

and heres the first batch of mans ive received, ready for some paint

cheers guys, should be another fun diary armata_PDT_34.gif

what is a land raider doing inside a space hulk???? not the most effective for fighting in cramped corridors.....

It's a hulking hulk biggrin.gif.

Pfwah, I'd drive a landraider around my office building if I had one (Ok I couldn't really do it more than once, but hey...) tongue.gif

Needs a splash of colour I think, perhaps paint the chest eagle a dark green?

No I have other plans. Keep in mind the test model terminator is a generic terminator with no bling.

+edit+
ok whole squads got shading on the bone and metal now, ready to start highlights and colourful bits

The colour scheme is great and the poses look cool as well but I think you need more blips on the assault cannon's motion sensor smile.gif

decided to finish off the grey on the termies tomorrow morning and did a bit of work shading in the colours for the libby instead.

not bad for the first days work though, 95% finished termy squad and half a librarian armata_PDT_01.gif

Looks like secret plan "paint it all really fast and freak dude out is working well".

I like the scheme, I think it needs one coloured bit to spice it up though, and maybe a different colour on the purity seals to make them stand out from the armour.

And I cringed when I saw that the guy who build them had used a power armour head on a terminator... I really don't get why people do that...

Yeah Scotts wrong, that knightly dark angel head is rad.

didnt get any painting done today as there was a lovely blue sky and warm weather so a mate and I went scouting for photos to use for painting references for an exhibition we're putting together in April.
the coinflip meant I was the one who went trudging through skum...which actually turned out to be fun biggrin.gif

Tonight I at least managed to do the shading in of the colours on the assault mans and did a bit of work on everyone's bases...oh and cleaned up the libby a little bit.
