MIF: Things I liked, and some I didnt..., MIF 40k Feedback Options

Hi all,

I thought Id kick off a feedback thread by outlining some things I liked about the event, and then some of those I didnt. Feel free to add your lists below:

Likes:

1. Having my hair blown back watching every person in the room gently bow their heads in respect to Mark McLaughlin. That set a massive shiver down my spine - you could hear a pin drop.
2. How many full sports marks got given out (and zero bottom marks). This showed me you were all having a great time.
3. The box of chocolates explosion during the raffle - we'll definitely have to do that next year (though I saw insurance dollars flash before my eyes each time Mike threw one!)
4. The generosity of all players in buying drinks and raffle tickets - weve got something like $1100 or $1200 to give to clubs
5. Seeing how many hands when up when I asked if players enjoyed the COLD mission

Dislikes:

• Dan Attrill, Craig Laird and myself manhandling 70 tabletops 40m uphill up Burke Rd on Monday - that sucked massively, and I wont be doing that next year - we as a community have to come up with an answer to tabletops and terrain
• I wasnt a fan of being spread over two levels - going up and down constantly, blew chunks
• Having only two 40k players turn up to help set up on Friday. There was 126 of you, and only 2 could spare the time to help - was a bit disappointing.
• Putting the missions up for review, and still finding typos on the day... ARGGGHHHH!!!!!
• 126 players may be a few too many - we run MIF with a pretty skeleton crew (as compared to Arc), and only the completely unexpected arrival of two of my non-wargames friends saved us from being caught short on Saturday.
• Army lists were pretty damn average (not in terms of power) but in terms of how correct they were. The template instructions werent followed correctly, or points value were wrong, in close to 1/3 of lists submitted.
• Theme is very difficult to mark, and I dont think we did a very good job of it. Im not a huge fan of theme, and because it doesnt directly contribute to the game (and is so difficult to mark) we may scrap it next year.

Anyway, thats it for now - Im home sick today (have come down with a horrible cold), so if anything else comes up, I'll add it to my lists.

Pretty much everything.....so take my dislikes with a proverbial pinch of salt.

The silence for Mr McCaughlin. Impeccably observed and also noticed Sombreros were removed. Nice touch guys.

Missions. They were fair awesome.

Panel comp.....despite my comp hit. (Bah!)

Smooth as clockwork awesome gig. First one i look for on the annual Tourney schedule.

6 awesome players. I'm on a bit of a streak and haven't played an asshat in ages. Ticked off a few regulars i hadn't played before (A.Marshall, C.Thomson, B.Zagami) and had a blast. Bolesy....you'll keep

Dislikes:

Dice Fail v Eaton not giving me a fair shake at him. Lasted longer than last year but thems the breaks when you fly on Day 1. Need to master the art of teh Submarine!

Pre-released missions. I like my Tourney missions to be like Xmas morning and also feel this might encourage "List Tailoring".

Nerd gamer diet. Mine read - Day 1 Maccas, Maccas, Pizza, Boat Load of Red Wine. Day 2 Maccas, Hungry Jacks, Bacon sandwich. Yep....gym this week.

Theme. Don't know if you liked mine or not but had some rage while writing it....you know my thoughts on it now. Theme is gay.....and if you think i'm naming Squad Sergeants, you're dreaming. As per Dave White, first model to die is always "Jones from accounts"....and thats as far as i'm going.

Not having a beer in me and abusing the natives that usually heckle me. On the plus side there....i don't think i droppped and F or C bombs which made a nice change

Having to wait a full 12 months for MiLf to roll around again

will add more if i think of any.

[Golden]

Liked:

- The venue
- The terrain, cept for a table or two
- Missions. They were well done, fairly clear and not broken.
- Panel comp was good, and was done well i think.
- Atmosphere was fantastic and the days ran flawlessly smooth
- Met a whole heaps of new dudes on the tourney scene
- Rick, thanks for getting off the mic as soon as you did Don't wanna hear no stories of Justicars with Melta Bombs haha.
- WSWA taking out the podium once more with our new inductee Dave Lewy, who stuck to Wyrm and I like glue

Disliked:

- As some have said, the nerd diet hurts, especially when it's the macca's hat-trick on day one.
- Naming units and Sergeants is just ghey, and should be left out. A passage of justification behind the choices in your list, and the list itself it enough i think.
- Didn't get to play any of the interstaters

Sorry, but he was actually a Platinum D6 member before he was a WSWA member, so I think they got the podium finish.
