It happened, I finally got sick of painting Tyranids, at least for the moment.
Doing an Eldar army is something I've been thinking of doing for a while so I've struck out and started buying space elves. Each of the craftworlds has a really strong interesting theme which would be great fun to do. I ummed and ahhed for a while before settling on Biel-Tan for it's aspect warrior heavy nature. So, enough waffling, more pictures! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A Warp Spider! The only finished model (so far, cross fingers) and he's not even based yet (I've got some ideas there. I've also magnetised up my Autarch because I am a froot loop. ![]() ![]() I've got plenty more to paint. ![]() ![]() as well as another 13 Warp Spiders (Incuding 2 Exarchs). Can you guess my favourite aspect? I've also got a Falcon that needs stripping and some actual troop choices . . . This'll keep me going for a while. Now I need to ask YOU a question. The Warp Jump Generator of the Warp Spider is pretty plain right now. Should I do a Warp Spider Rune, Web pattern, Biel-Tan symbol or a Thorn pattern on it? Same goes for the helmet. Should I whack a rune on it? -------------------- Things my Red Terror has Swallowed Whole: A Mentors Librarian, a Fire Warrior Sash'Ui. Total Points: 109 (so far...)

mix it up... you have heaps of war spider to paint and they all have basically the same pose, so modify whats ont heir backpacks a bit.
Give some a rune, some a web. Maybe even go further and do a half rune half web, or a rune made from web, or a rune surrounded by webs. If in doing this you find that only one option really looks good then go with that, but if they all look cool you now have some individuality. Oh and go back and paint Bill you wimp. Ted keeps getting fried by focus fire, he needs a budy to take some heat from him (Chester really doesn't do a good job currently). -------------------- If a tech priest goes to ground against telsa weapons, does he take no damage?

The blending work on the space elf looks great. I wish I could achieve such nice results. Keep up the great work. I want to see more painted minis.

Ted keeps getting fried by focus fire, he needs a budy to take some heat from him (Chester really doesn't do a good job currently). Mixing it up sounds like a good idea. I'll paint them all up to "finished" standard before mucking around with various runes and stuff. I will paint Bill eventually, but I think Chester needs to relive some Glory days first. The blending work on the space elf looks great. I wish I could achieve such nice results. Keep up the great work. I want to see more painted minis. Thanks! I've had to re-teach myself how to paint "Properly", ie with blending and stuff. I've abused washes far too much painting my nids so it's nice to paint something different. It's just the spiders. Mixing the aspect colours and craftworld colours does give a Christmassy effect, but I think that'll be restricted to the spiders. Subscribed ![]() Very nice. Cheers man ![]() Today I've been cleaning up models, stripping models and undercoating models. I've also been working on the prototype base for my Warp Spider. -------------------- Things my Red Terror has Swallowed Whole: A Mentors Librarian, a Fire Warrior Sash'Ui. I based the Warp Spider.
I sculpted the base using procreate. I got the rocky texture by pushing a rock into it (Suprising huh) and then added the eldar runes using a modelling knife. I'm reasonably happy with how it came out, I think I'll try to make the texture a bit deeper next time. I also think I went over the top decorating it. 2 groups of Flowers, some clump foliage and some Ivy is a bit to much. Especially as the Ivy is the same colour as the runic segment. ![]() ![]() I've also started working out colour schemes for other aspects. ![]() ![]() I think the Scorpion needs to be brighter, while the Hawk needs to be darker. I'll see how the test models look when I work the colours up. Well, I brightened up the Scorpion. I'm not super duper happy with the blending and I think he could maybe use an extra layer of highlighting, but he looks better in person.
![]() ![]() ![]() I've worked up the yellow and white and I've started blocking in the gems. I painted over the striping on the armour, but looking at the finished product I think they could do with being yellow or white. Thoughts? -------------------- Things my Red Terror has Swallowed Whole: A Mentors Librarian, a Fire Warrior Sash'Ui. Total Points: 109 (so far...)

Really nice stuff so far! Jealous.
I'd personally stay away from any striping on the Scorpion, based on the photos you've put up. -------------------- "I say we take off, nuke the site from orbit... It's the only way to be sure" -- Roboute Guilliman

What colours are on the hawk ? Are you using Asurmen blue, or a DIY wash ?

Haha, I actually just did the yellow and it looks pretty good.
I might try the white on the next scorpion just to see how it looks. One advantage to white is that it is easy to paint over. Radle, the Hawk is P3 Arcane Blue basecoat which has been washed with straight Asurmen Blue. -------------------- Things my Red Terror has Swallowed Whole: A Mentors Librarian, a Fire Warrior Sash'Ui. And pictures!
I think the scorpion looks waaaaaaaay better with Yellow bits. I also did the thorn pattern on the sword which you can't see here and highlighted the metal sections. I've still got to do the black, the eyes, the leather and the gems. Still, I'm most of the way there. ![]() I also worked up the blue on the Hawk. I kinda think it's a it garish, but it looks better now it's been highlighted. ![]() -------------------- Things my Red Terror has Swallowed Whole: A Mentors Librarian, a Fire Warrior Sash'Ui. Looking really good Asher! Love the Warp spider hope to see him in person-perhaps tuesday? Or maybe tomorro afternoon? The scorpion looks really good- like the yellow, but I do think the white helps to bring the model together with the sword...but yeah both look good!
The Hawk is cool too but it would help to see him with the wings...don't know maybe cyan a bit darker??..but it still looks really cool as is! I really don't know -I'm in two minds! Yikes! As always Nice paint jobs as I've come to expect from your work Asher! Absolutely awesome! That Warp spider is seriously awesome dude! You got the spinner perfect! Absolutely ace! -------------------- |
