Full Version: WGOL 2010 Fantasy Tournament

Well with all the kiddies getting their fantasy on, I think its time to once again run a WGOL tournament. I will happily run it.

This is what I propose;

Saturday 9th October and Sunday 10th October

2250 Fantasy - Maybe smaller points, depending on what you people say.

Models do not have to be painted, but need to be on appropriate bases. Movement trays are also a must, in order to speed up play.

6 games

I like the date, it far enough away to let people paint up there models and for everyone to learn some more about 8th ed.

The match up is going to be double blind - so victorories / losses won;t effect your draw

Painting - 20 points - You will get a percentage of the 20 points for the models that are fully painted (no undercoat showing, basic 3 colors) and based.

Sports - as we are all wonderful peopel we will run the bastard clause - if you feel your opponent was a real bastard you can report them to the TO with a explination and they will recieve a severe penalty. Last time we used this it was not applied, since aw a club tourney, there generally isn;t an issue.

Awards (will vary on number of players)

Best General

Players Choice - each player can submit a single model/unit from their army for everyone else to judge. The model must be part of your army being fielded.

Might be some other awards as well - TBD

Cost - I'm thinking 20 bucks which will include lunch both days.

Any questions or comments?

If your keen, pm your email and will start a list. Not going to cap numbers on it now, spots will go to club members and regulars first up. First in best dressed. Will cap out at an even number

I don't like the date.. I have to wait for isle of blood to come out before I can start learning how to play tongue.gif
Cave
isle of Blood should be out the first week of Sept, which would give ya a couple of weeks with it. Remember, all you need to have is models stuck together and some movement trays - painting is optional.

16/17 are out - APOC is running or

23/24 or even 30/31 be a better date? but these might not be available due to exams. What do people think?

Later in October doesn't affect me but in November, we might not be able to get the rooms due to exams.

If your going Skaven, talk to / beg asher about borrowing his - you can start learning right away. lol
skalathrax
sounds good biggrin.gif

we could do a different point level though
i don't think 2250 is as standard anymore 2500 (or 2600) seems more standard
also we could consider doing 1500 pts, as a lot more ppl would able to do 1500 pts
just a thought

Interested if I can get the weekend off work.

any date preference?
Mr X
I'm in as long as the date gets finalized so i can mark it off as busy.
Also for points I'm happy with 2250 or even 2500/2600 as suggested.
kaos
1500 pts would be good for me, anymore and I would struggle to get an army together in time.
saurus
I am keen for it and hose days sound good to me.

I have not played 8th ed yet and I am told it is a faster game then 7th, but you do not want the points limit to high for these reasons.

1) time to fit in all the games.
2) Some people do not have the models to meet those points limits.
3) not to disadvantage people who want to play horde armies like skaven and goblins.

Hi Cave,

DO NOT make it the 30th-31th.

You have strong feelings about this date, which i can respect. i have no idea why, but I can scratch that off the list.

Points

The point level a few people are asking about; I'll suggest reducing it down to 1500

how does that suit people?
Wobbie
cool dude. I think 1600 would be an ace point bracket (400 core rather than 375).

I am currently free all of October although the 23/24th probably suits best...
Reuben
I think the points should be in 2000-2500 range - with the new focus on larger armies. It is a month and a half away, if we do it that weekend. I don't plan that far in advance anyhow wink.gif
Cave
There seems to be two schools of thought on the points:

2000 - 2500 and 1500 to 1600.

I'm prone to split the difference and call it 1750. What do you all think?

it's big enough to field some bigger more interesting stuff, but not budget breaking in terms of models.

EmpireGuard
Just a thought due to the whole 25% thing its best to stay in multiples of 200. 25% of 1750= 437.5pts it just makes things kind of messy, maybe 1800pts would be better.

Wobbie
1750 is much better for me than 1800... in fact I would really appreciate it if we could keep it at or under 1750pts.

You can't find the extra 50 points?
Wobbie
would you believe that with all the multitudes of high elves I own I only have 440 pts of core units assembled. So I would either have to assemble more stuff or use spearmen as sea guard... if it is 1750 there is a chance I can field a fully painted army or at least close to...
Cave
remember rob if it is 1800 you can always play 50 points short to field a fully painted army.

Any other thoughts?

I will be a WGOL on Friday Night, not till late though.

Well what about 1600pts then.

Really I'm not sure if I'm going just yet and I don’t really care on the points values will be I just think it should be a multiple of 200pts. So anything from 1000pts to 2400pts is fine by me.
saurus
Cave go with 1800, I think multiples of 200 are far better.

Rob, cmon man, its only 50pts, you can put together 5 spearmen over the next two months, and even paint them if you need be. Compared to other peoples armies like myself that is nothing.

saurus
Reuben
Or add a 50pt Magic Item - Paint job free!
Cave
Thanks for the input gentleman and Seth. I think we shall be going with 1800 points.

so with that decided any more thoughts on the date?

put me down for one vote towards 'whenever is convenient'. Not that that is very useful.
Cave
It looks like the date for this thing is going to be the 23rd and 24 as all other weekends have been filled up for me, with the exception of the 2nd & 3rd. I will contact Cam and see about he booking and post final details.

FatDamien
2nd/3rd is Conflict and also Cam's Birthday.. so noooo
Cave
I forgot about Cams, so that would rule out the Sunday since some of us might be a little hung over.

So I guess that leaves the 23rd and 24th. Hopefully the rooms are available.

I will post final details when the room is confirmed.

Tentative info;

1800 points
6 games
$25

Date Sat 23rd and Sun 24th October TBC

All the money is going to 1) lunch on both days and 2) prizes
