Any ideas for Gas Clouds apart from a piece of paper with Gas Cloud written on it? armata_PDT_01.gif

Coloured cotton wool?

Last time I played BFG we had the gas clouds (nebulae) painted onto the cloth (starfield). Asteroid fields were scattered gravel (large ones were styro on stands - as were planets).

Hi Wayne, saw your post. What fleet will you be running? i took another lok at BFG, looks like a good game.
I have a table sized relatively dark blue felt sheet (or that club black painted table would represent space well, I guess). Someone has suggested using the back of a GW Battlemat (black side). There is also 4x3 (only) sized foamboard available in black. There are a few pieces of different coloured felt and yellow might be good, with or without the cotton wool. I have some clay type rubble for asteroid belt already in small sheets (but real asteroids are like unshelled penuts not like sharp rocks because they are battered by debris). A 10 inch plastic football cut in half and painted up would make a great pair of large planets and a tennis ball sized one 2 moons!
I am ordering a small Necron fleet, as I like the ships. I also like the idea of the Rogue Trader Cruiser and 3 Escort ships.
A jump gate is easy to make (I made one similar to a 40K Large Blast painted on plastic). A pair of those could allow ships to leave the table and return later eg. after refuelling, enable reserves to come on to assist, or enable ships to jump to the other table end if pursued. I am also getting a Space Station Orbital Dock.
i have read the Basic and Advanced Rules and have the templates on USB for colour printing. Regards J

Our gaming club has made some cool BFG stuff, including gas clouds, which are templates painted with an airbrush, check it out on page 2 here.

Hi,

I have an Imperiial Fleet of around 1,400 points and a black mat 6' x 4'. Look forward to taking on your Necrons.

Just use thick card (or 3mm MDF etc) and buy a few cans of spray from the cheap shop ($2-3/can).
BLACK, burnt red, yellow and white (maybe a blue) can be used creatively to make many sorts of terrain.

On making gas clouds, I cut out a bunch of shapes (various sizes) of mdf which I then painted with cheap acrylics using a stippling technique. I started with a dark shade of colour and worked my way up to swirling patterns with gradually lighter shades. I think I used 3 or 4 shades per cloud, and they look pretty good I reckon.

Cotten teased out with water pva glue mix make some nice gas clouds if there painted also can get polystyrene balls from any art and craft store and mount them to flying stands and can make planets and moons even asteroids if you get the smaller ones just depends on how creative you want to get.
