Hello all, this is sort of like mark_logue’s army drop, but we want to find out what gives you the S#!Ts the most while painting and modelling.
Here is my short list of things.
Modelling:
Gluing something usually an arm or head and gluing it to my finger as well.
The plastic glue going psycho and spurting all over my models and melting away detail.
Super glue keeps pumping out of the tube after I have put it down causing me to try to hold the model in 1 hand while I try in vain to put the lid on my super glue tube with my other hand and my mouth. Sometimes the glue sneaks into m mouth, then I cry in the corner.
Cutting things and slicing my palm, finger of knee with my blunt and slightly rusty scalpel blade. Dropping the scalpel usually follows resulting in it stabbing my toe.
Drilling through metal and sometimes plastic models, and then the drill snaps. I don’t really care as I have another drill bit the same size so I resume drilling. Then it snaps a few days later.
Slipping while drilling and stabbing the drill bit into my palm, finger and or finger tip.
Painting:
Droping models on the floor, only for them to collect carpet, and fallen belly button fluff so I have to run like a sissy half in tears to clean the model.
Getting bumped, sneezing, head butted by my cat, kicked in the head and getting fondled by businessmen. All annoying as each other, bumping me wile I’m painting expensive plastic get me P!$$&D real quick.
And the last annoying thing, thinking that the can of black spray paint in my hand is varnish and re undercoating my models. Very grumpy.
Thankyou for reading and I hope more the Tuvwum And Niz reply.

I can't imagine where "getting fondled by businessmen" came from.
My pet hates are: being crap at it; taking forever at finishing a model that looks (at best) ordinary; and figuring out that I've got another 60+ models to do when I've finished the first guy after 3 hours solid painting.

haha.
I hate just general interuptions. Or my music playlist stops playing
Also stabbing and cutting one self is not good. haha Try undercoating something on the weekend, so you hit your hands. Then on monday at school everyone yells at you saying your an emo because you have black fingernails(the paint wore off the skin, but not the nail, haha doh!!)

My drill bit snapped off today, man that was annoying, I kinda had to make a hole next to it instead. *shakes a fist*
I hate when you choose a colour then as soon as you slap it on you decide it looks like crap. The models just sit on the table for days after that happens.
I hate when you have to drill into tiny little shoulders to pin tiny little arms onto fragile minis and you drill too far and have to greenstuff it up
I hate being impatient and painting over superglue too soon and ruining your brush hehe.
I also hate when someone comes to my door while im painting, I look up and have a heartattack. (i sit in front of the window next to the door)

I hate table bumpers. You know them, they're the ones that come up during painting demos and cannot actually stand ontheir own two feetso they lean on the table where half the painters ar leaning.......
I hate work getting inthe way of agood painting session!
I hate it when its a good painting day (average temperature with some rain) and you have to take the kids to softball! Man I hate that!!

my daughter (22 months) has recently begun to come up to me while I am painting and point out the swords and other point objects which can get frustrating, she generally times it when I am doing the eyes or something details that requires alot of concentration.
End of the day though its only a piece of plastic and it can be painted over if a mistake is made.

I hate it when people walk around the room. Granted, it seems selfish, but the floor moves slightly when people walk around behind me.
Or when I've got my headphones in because my dad is playing Jazz music *shudder* not fun for trying to paint to, and my brother decides he needs to talk to me, so he flicks the damn earphones while they're in my ears
But with uni, I can paint when I'm home alone, so that helps

I also hate having to do some assessments for TAFE (3 I have to start for Monday) when I want to finish my chaos army and get through 20 odd orks on a wet weekend. Once I was painting on the back deck and my dog assaulted 12 and instantly killed my blood angles chaplain. His iron halo did not d\save him..

Also, having to use a brush, id much prefer to use my fingers.

I agree. Just the raw emotion in painting with your fingers
I hate painting when I am sitting on my bed near my desk, and some one comes and sits on the bed just as I am painting the eyes. But in general, I love modelling and painting, that is why I am in the hobby.

Can't stand breaking drill bits myself. It's always the smallest one that's used for marking the piece before drilling the main hole that goes, too.
I also hate it when I'm layering, and I've overthinned the paint, so instead of highlighting neatly it just runs into the crevices.
Scalpel slips that result in a slashed thumb are annoying. Because the blade is sharp they don't overly hurt... but the subsequent bandaids make it uncomfortable and awkward to hold and manipulate a model for painting afterwards. Not to forget that Real Blood on models is generally a Bad Thing.
Of course, the ringing phone distraction is possibly the most annoying, if only because of the frequency with which it occurs. If it's a telemarketer, then it's time for blood...

Oct 8 2005, 02:21 PM
having to paint boring parts of a model (i.e armour) 50 times over before being able to move onto the more interesting bits (hence why im a huge fan of black armour)
prents telling u to move ffom the coffee table, its the best place to paint (while watching mindless shows on mtv..............mmmm mtv)
things that interupt you whilst painting a mixed paint, i find when i have to re-mix the paint i have to do the entire layer again for it to look right

Ahhh yes.. The ringing phone is a pain in the bum, it's always for someone else thats either not home or is not in the mood t talk to ppl.

For me it's cutting a little too much with the scalpel, the phone ringing (if only because it breaks concentration) and people telling me that I have to stop
Zordana
Oct 8 2005, 03:22 PM
I take my phone to the front room with me. The telemarketing calls still annoy the hell out of me though. The other day I was painting and got 3 calls from a robot voice for some telecommunications company.
I hate when my table is really messy, which it is 90% of the time. It makes me paint slowly and feel yuk, its kinda depressing so i have to tidy up every once in a while or ill get nothing done.
Having a crippled dog can be a pain too. Griever still doesnt have total control of his bowels and the other day he did a small poo under my painting table and I didnt notice and I rolled my chair through it. It's funny in hindsight, but it was not so fun to clean up.
I was like, "what the hell is that on the floor, did I spill paint?" then a few moments later it dawned on me that it was a poo I'd ground into the carpet with my chair. Strangely enough I didn't get any on myself. Very lucky

I find painting the same type of models like 40 times over ie whfb empire drives me mad, painting black can get real tedious, white is even worse to paint and most definitely when u get that superglue batch that never sticks to anything exept ur hands or the glue that u open and nauseates you with fumes because its full of evaporated glue!
Oh and painting for ppl and not getting paid for it really shastens me.
I think ive raved enough
All those. Also, forgetting to paint an inside bit after already gluing and painting the rest. Of course paint gets all over everything and it takes twice as long to finish.
In the middle of painting a super fine detail bit on an expensive model and someone nearby drops a really bad fart... do I gag and mess it up, do I stop and lose the moment...
Not getting fondled by beaut businesswomen...

Basecoating untold amounts of Guardmen is a pain, so is 'turning down that racket' (rock music on radio). I have an iPod, although it distracts me... somehow :-o So, enter a FM transmitter.
But modelling is awesome fun, yet seeing the finished product makes it all worth it :-D

1.Mould lines, i swear the new space marine tactical squad is there wrost example of this, and finally thinking you have got rid of them all only to spray/paint a model and see a hidden one,
2.when the glue drys up, result of poor quailty glue
[glow=red:0673a013e4]Painting[/glow:0673a013e4]
1. painting the same model about 20 times as the case in my slayers army
2.undercoating with spray paint and getting bubbles, prolley the worst thing to ever happen
3. drinking the painting water cup :-D (please let someone on this site of done that before)

Pet hates while painting...
1. Really hot summer days: Not such a problem now as we have aircon, but when we lived in Balwyn there wasn't aircon and my painting desk was upstairs. Hot days were a major pain and killed any chance of painting well.
2. End of a CD: Having background noise is great for my painting, but when the CD finishes I get grumpy. Many moons ago I use to paint from about 8pm until well in to the wee hours of the morning, I'd listen to Spoonman on Triple M. Nostalgia hit me in the face the other night when I started painting and flicked on the radio... and heard the Spoonman's voice again! Freaky, since he hadn't been on Triple M for 6 or so years!
3. Baby waking up: I only get to paint late at night now, when our son is tucked up in bed and
should be sleeping. Occassionally though he'll wake up for no specific reason other than for a gentle pat on the back to get him back to sleep.
4. Running out of paint: Or, opening a pot to find the paint is as hard as a nail. Makes me very grumpy indeed as it can spell the premature end to a painting session... grrrr!
Cheers,
G

not being able to paint to my own expectations. although my wolf scouts are prettty close
stringy glue
glue that just wont stick
unable to get the right colour by mixing paint

I completely painted about 70 or so models in the space of a week (thank you school holidays) in the week before MOAB lol. I had hardly played with the army that week and it showed. On the last day I did 140 snow bases. It took 6 hours!

I hate the low motivational periods of painting.
Like: "I could paint my <insert squad here>, but I really feel like doing anything else..."
Just like study, really!

Ha dipped it in my beer a few times.
I really like modelling and painting so there is not many bad points with me.
Just..........
Super Glue..... I practice lining the bits up together everything is all good I put super glue on them then I cant get them to sit together right get super glue on my hands yell out a bad word, drop the model and end up ripping some chunks of skin off...... I don't know how I manage to paint things at all being so uncoordinated. I think it might just be that I have some sort of weird phobia now so I let my hands tremble.
I have never had a drill bit snap...... weird heard other people before say about that.... the only thing I get is loosing my pin vice..... got a backup now. Snap the blade on my mini hack saw occassionally when I am trying to cut and bend metal miniatures to reposition arms etc. Not really anoying because I don't do it too much.
Can never get motivated to paint my WHFB armies..... always get distracted by 40K miniatures which I have more fun painting and modelling... even the round bases make them look better IMO

Never snapped a drill bit, but then I'm a sissy...I hate:
- Painting something for ages and then realising that you've held onto the model and rubbed off the paint from somewhere else
- Undercoating. I paint it on as I've not got spray - can someone recomend something that's good for GW paints and not too expensive
- Phone calls, interruptions and wickets falling in the cricket (particularly ppl like Lara out for a duck, I tend to jump in the air before realising that I've ruined another eye

)
- Messy desks
- Not having a Ferrari to drive to the shop and buy paints with.
- Spilling paint, cleaning water, coffee, beer, brake fluid etc

Superglue that will stick your hands together in a nano-second, but won't glue together a pinned miniature in an hour.
Finishing a miniature (or army) that you think looks wonderful and then seeing someone else's army in White Dwarf/internet and immediately feel like slashing your wrists.
Anyone that can paint better than me.
Failing eyesight, even with glasses.
That none of my miniatures have breasts.
Dropping a small piece of a miniature on the floor and finding it has moved over 20 feet from where it should logically land.
Mould lines, mould lines, bloody mould lines.....
