Hey dudes! Well here I am beginning a new army diary as a commission blog for someone - the massively destructive Red Templars!
I've had a bit of a slowdown event happen that has reduced the amount of time that I can spend doing just modeling so I've been doing the best I can to get this army up and running. So far I have assembled and based 20 jump troops, started on 10 neophytes, partially assembled about 50 tac marines, assembled 3 rhinos, 2 attack bikes and almost done on a predator annihilator. I've yet to assemble 10 termies, 2 landraiders, 3 landspeeders and I think that is the total of what is to be done... Then I have to get on to finishing and basing it all. Lots of fun and plenty to do for the Red Templars. AND I'm blogging from an iPad! I'm getting all techi like! :-)
Photos to come...

I am going to update this soon... I promise! As of Friday I will be doing commission work/music lessons full time for 6 months so I'll have enough time to get some pictures of what I have done so far up and on the post... Till then, I'm still slowed to a snails pace

ARGH! I'm still setting up my gorram WORKSHOP/STUDIO and it's frustrating the hell out of me!!!! Soon, my lovelies, soon. I have all the basing materials out, the desk is set up, the bases have been brought to light and my chair is comfy. Tomorrow ought to see the beginning of some new work from this diary!

So far I've done a heap of work getting the main army bases done. I think I have done too many but at least I can use them on other models later on

Here's some pics of where I am up to with them:

Hey dude, looks like a bit of work ahead. Is it possible to get an idea of how the marines will look once done? I'm guessing there's going to be a small amount of red somewhere...

I believe that a skaven hellpit abomination
Speaking of that, when are we going to see update with them
lemmingspawn
May 19 2011, 09:50 AM
Yeah it's the Skaven Hellpit Abomination

they're on the backburner while I get into the Red Templars for the moment which are about 2 weeks behind in my books. With so much going on changing my life around to accommodate for the change of lifestyle it's been hard to get started on stuff but today looks to be the first serious days work

The best idea so far is the Thunderhawk. Once I get the amassed army assembled and based I'll then start with the concept paintwork.

I love the Plasticard constuction of the Plague Claw catapult. I just started getting into a Skaven army so I might borrow some ideas off of ya Lemming 8)

Go ahead and nick away

Here's what I've done today - 60+ marines and initiates all based, I just have to touch up the bases and add a few extra details then they will be ready to undercoat. I've now got 3 landspeeders and 1 landraider to assemble then I'll be ready to start the mass painting!

I'm going a bit slower than I had hoped - but that's what happens when still setting my workstation up. Today I had a major aggro moment when I was just trying to get started and I couldn't find everything I needed!
Curse the floods!
But as it goes, I got stuff done after about an hour of stuffing around and managed to get the majority of the main basecoating down on the army. I still have the terminators and a few other bits to assemble but I'll do that next week sometime...if I don't get distracted and decide to just do the painting instead

May 26 2011, 10:25 PM
Nice. That's a lot of marines.
Is that just a red base coat or have you done something else as well? I only ask because the ones towards the front have a fair bit of detail showing.
lemmingspawn
May 27 2011, 07:44 PM
I started with the undercoat of grey, which I then covered with a complete basecoat of black. Then I airbrushed the red over that. The red took over 2 hours to get layed on because of it going over black, but I finally got it in there

So you will see a fair bit of shading/detail at this level because of the way the airbrush picks out certain layers according to the directions I am spraying. Next will be to do a light downlight effect with an orange/red to give the sun reflections. I only hope I can be accurate enough after that to avoid stuffing the airbrush work

Glad you like it so far Christo

Today I've finally managed to finish the assembly and basing stage. I've even gotten some of the extra undercoating done. So here is a full shot of everything on the board so far.

Now I just need to get the complete undercoating done and I can get into the really serious business of shining this puppy up!
Pretty much the whole of last week was a write off so I haven't had much done till this week. With us going to Toowoomba for four days, coming back to running a stall in the show (which I just realised I left the photos somewhere else - I'll have to put those up soon

) and then home for a big weekend of music and music workshops - not much went on model wise! About all I did was show someone how to base stuff using cork. And played guitar to a live audience for 18 hours straight!!!!
Anyway, stall pics to come

OK!!!
Here I have ye ole test model. It's a bit hard painting at the moment with the reduced light but this is what I have for the scheme I would like to use.

And here is where I spent two days out of last week jamming along with myself (No - that's not the same as playing with myself!)

I teamed up with the LGS and we went halves in a stall at the local show. He has all the gear to the left (novels, models, etc) and I have all the gear to the right (painted display models and guitars and noisemaking gear).

Haha!

A few nibbles but nothing concrete. I haven't had any follow up calls since then so I don't know what is going to happen as far as that goes. I have a bit of work lined up for the moment to keep me busy

Wow, so let us know when the batch painting finally drives you mad and you're run down the main street of Emerald, paint brush in hand, screaming "NO MORE RED!". I wanna be there with a camera...
But seriously, that's some nice effort there.

Jun 22 2011, 10:11 PM
Lol yeah there's a little mud but not baptismally :-). I'll get to the fleur de lys tomorrow, hopefully

Dale, I dunno if I'll be able to warn you of the impending breakdown - I imagine it would be kindof spontaneous

Nice! Those banners and scouts/neophytes really make the army. (The dash of white balances all the other colours beautifully.)

So sexy.
Landspeeder bases are incredibly bare. Should have left the bases untouched til you had time to pimp them up.
Random rubble (stones, cardboard, balso wood, foamcore bits etc) covered in thick PVA then covered with sand.

Well done mate, you have pumped out an incerdibly nice looking army very quickly!
Is the metallic damage achieved with weathering powders as well as the muddy tracks? or is it a drybrush?
It looks very good, I want to steal it

Jul 12 2011, 01:31 PM
Doc, the bases are a little more interesting than they appear. I've kept most of the bases fairly spartan deliberately, but there is a lot of rock/sand/chunk in the base itself, it's just hidden in the pics mostly.
Buddha, the chipping technique is done using a blister/transport case sponge piece. You dip the edge of the fine grained sponge in the silver and then dab it on the areas you want weathered and chipped. I then went over most of those areas with an oil wash and powders.
