I am using 'DohYou' to score/moderate. Dohyou is the exact same software that PPress uses for their events at Gen Con, Lock & Load and other big shows. I will not be slapping a homebrew scoring system over the top.

What I can (and will) do is ensure that the lowest ranked player each round gets the bye. For the 1st round, I will ask for a volunteer and if none is forthcoming (which I doubt) I will randomise.

FWIW, a player had to drop out of Friday leaving 54 players. Lets hope everybody can make it out of bed in time smile.gif

Jygg, you've got Dru's faction wrong, you need to make it "Harbinger" smile.gif
Aezuth
Also Dru, Don't bother buying a balloon, you will get one in your goodie bag.

Now that pre-registration is closed, I want to say a few words about registration on the day. All the way back in the very 1st post of this thread I stated that my overriding concern with registration on the day will be to give/keep an even number of players for each event. The Cancon front desk will not accept registrations without my approval.

So, if you haven't registered and still want to try and play, here is how it works. Each morning, the TOs table will start a standby list of players that want in. Get your name/mobile number on that list ASAP in the morning. If needed, I aim to start calling players off the list no later than 9:15pm . And if you are serious, I suggest you have lists/models at the ready.

Just before its time to start, we will take as many players from the list (1st come, 1st serve) as we can such that the event has even numbers or is full.

Another point - The players pack says to be at check in "no later than 9am". That doesn't mean turn up at 9am, it means that if you haven't fronted up to the TO's table for check in by 9am you are late. People that are late face the very real prospect of being dropped from the event in favour of people on the standby list. Please don't risk it.

I could bring a big shield and a very short sword wink.gif

So who's going to be Madelyn Corbeau?

yes some men have bigger swords then others tongue.gif sorry i couldnt resist replying to this.
Nyx
It's not the size that matters Veneficus. The Avatars sword still does better than most lol

Woot. WA represent indeed. How bad was the breakage? Im more than a little worried about my models. :/

Also Jygg, how large is the first place trophy? Packing my suitcase at the moment, need to make sure I leave enough room. armata_PDT_36.gif

You'll need to make room for a wooden spoon wink.gif
Nyx
Apparently models should be taken as carry-on as opposed to in your suitcase, that way you make sure they don't get thrown around armata_PDT_04.gif
Nothing too bad bad, just Avvy's smoke stacks, Reckoners torso, Harby's hand etc, relatively minor stuff that I've just glued straight back on armata_PDT_01.gif
Rez
Hmm. I was going to put my models in my suitcase, Im not sure if they would let me take my Warpwolf Stalkers as carry-on. Those things could hurt people (thinking of the Spriggan incident)...

Damn airports.
PianoDan
Nah, you should be fine. Just might get a smirk from the guy behind the security screen ;-)
Nyx
Just cover your suitcase in fragile stickers.
Are you flying direct? Less chance for breakages if so

No he doesn't, I already have a spot reserved for my shiny new wooden spoon lol smile.gif

Only arrived in Canberra a couple of hours ago. Carried all miniatures on board the plane, no troubles at all- no way I wanted put through with normal baggage. Cant wait until tomorrow.
Stallandor
Never, EVER check your army in.

Carry on every time.
We have been taking armies on planes for 10 years without a drama.
(Apart from always being selected for the random bomb search...)

And when we went to Perth for Focused and Furious we put our armies in the hold and had no drama's at all, everything was fine.

AnyOne else holed up at the formulae 1 motel??
Nyx
I wonder if there'll be space for 50pt practice games at CanCon tomorrow...

I was told people usually stay at Formula 1, but I ended up at the Pavillion on Northbound. Is conveniently halfway between the CBD and EPIC smile.gif
Rez
Well at the airport now, models in my suitcase. Saw this advice too late, will prov go carry on for the rest of the legs. Not expecting any breakages, pluck foam and extra padding should be fine.

James your not playing the 25 pointer? I've got the Friday off, was plannin on just checking out the rest

What is at the rest of Cancon anyway?
Nyx
Nah, not doing the 25pter anymore. Mr Jyggdrasil just hasn't updated the original post tongue.gif

Considering what time you flew out, aren't you going to need sleep lol? All I know about the rest of CanCon is that all gaming stock and supplies (ie paint) in Canberra is there

Congrats to Mr Moorhouse on his win today armata_PDT_01.gif

I like that I beat Dan out for best of faction in cryx. Same wins, his SOS is better wink.gif

I am tired enough that your entire name could be a typo...

Two more days to go Jason, and only 64 players this time armata_PDT_01.gif
Jyggdrasil
On the subject of things I may have gotten wrong...

I forgot to give James one one of his prizes - a Domination poster covered in PPress signatures.

I also forgot to mention that the reason none of the winner were given the advertised CGS dragon trophies is that CGS hadn't finished making them. I *should * be able to collect them tomorrow for delivery to the winners.
PianoDan
Aaron your dress seems to go a long way. Jason, tut tut. I thought you were a married man
dao690
Top day. Well played to all.
Nyx
So, James, just how much do you know about Menoth for my prize tomorrow? tongue.gif

I understand this 0 amount.

The ultimate loser of the Main Event (50pt SRoller), the one who comes dead, stinking, motherless last, will receive two prizes. The 1st will remain veiled in mystery until its time for our biggest loser to take the walk of shame and come forward to collect it. The other is a one on one tutorial session on the faction of their choice and the subject of general tournament play with the ACT's own James Moorhouse.

Crono26
oh dear, are you 0-4? tongue.gif
Nyx
Well, no, but surely that doesn't put me out of contention lol biggrin.gif
Crono26
it may sonny jim tongue.gif
Nyx
Hey, if I can manage to lose my game tomorrow that puts me a 1-4, and as I've scored a grand total of 0 control points thus far I'd like to think I'm still in with a shot tongue.gif
(Learning about general tournament play might be kinda handy haha armata_PDT_04.gif )

Another terrific day - thanks all!

We set a new Australian record today with 62 players, smashing the 52 players record we set just yesterday.

Just 2 rounds to go in the 50pt Steamroller, but in the meantime you can find some great pics here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/metavirus/set...57629057397833/

RobertShepherd
Cryx wins! Hands up everyone who's shocked and/or surprised. Come on now, don't be shy.

Seriously though, that was some phenomenal play on the top table from both players. Massive props to everyone who podium-ed and to Denno in particular. And thanks to Jason for running a great pair of tourneys.

Speaking of which, about how much got contributed to the "Save Jason's Marriage" Fund by the end of the day? I hope it was enough to buy the wife something suitably conciliatory. smile.gif
Jyggdrasil
G'day all

I'll post the full players list/details tomorrow (the 1st-3rd above is correct). Huge congrats to the winners (the Leeper/Denison game really was epic) and thanks to all the players for a terrific weekend. And now, I am going to sleep....
