After many, many years of playing, assembling and painting wood elves I've decided its time for a change (for the time being anyway).
The plan is to build a daemonic legion army. I would buy the plague bearers and possibly a daemon prince but would probably convert and scratch build the plagueriders, nurglings, chariot etc etc in order to achieve an excessively disgusting effect (and probably models that resemble giant turds- given my scultping abilities).
I'd appreciate tips on what to use as a starting point for conversions, and some general ideas for nurgle daemon sculpts. The more disgusting- the better.
Cheers.

Hersey has a great model which can be used as a daemon prince... well i like it...

I Have also seen the Necron grim reaper dude with carrion wings as a decent nurgle DP.
If you search around you can find a few different ideas for the nurgle steeds. Checkout the warhammer forum, and possibly the forum dedicated to daemonic legions (see link in fantasy forum)

That nurgle army sucked IMO, they werent rotting and gross enough, they were just green.
Consider getting some zombie plastics, theres plenty of rotting arms and stuff, as well as a few scythes.

I love nurgle, there are so many possibilities, I have 1 plaguemarine army from V2+ V3 days that's waiting for a workover and two others that I've made prototypes for and they are vastly different from one another thematically and models, but Papa Nurgle loves them all.
My undergrad degree is in microbiology, that was the inspiration for the first plaguemarine army. Not much in the way of conversions as I was a noob to 40K, but everything was named and codified. Nurglings were viruses, Plaguebearers were protozoa, and marines were bacteria. Each marine squad was named after a genus of bacteria, each marine was a species of that genus, eg. Command squad was Bacillus, commander 'B.anthrax', banner bearer 'B.subtilis', etc. The list was printed over pictures of the real diseases, in glorious, nauseating colour. The banner on the command rhino was a large image of an anthrax lesion. You can find this stuff 'out there' on the net to see just what those diseases look like and model your demons appropriately.
Although WFB already has a rat army I think rats are great for Nurgle, the carriers of many diseases including Black Plague. The model types also swap well, rat swarms for nurglings, giant rats for plaguebearers, rat ogre for demon prince. Just need to 'demon' them up a little.
Swarms of flies and maggots, Reaper do a great fly demon miniature, the possibilities are endless and disgusting, join ussss, join usss!
Gronk's Carnival of Chaos is another great Nurgle theme, check out his modelling diary.

That fly daemon would be perfect to use as a daemon prince etc.
Check it Out Here
Does anyone have any idea how big it actually is? It would look a tad strange leading the army if it didn't even fill a 40mm base and was the height of a nurgling.

Well ive got two nurgle armies...deathguard and lost and the damned, not fantasy, but nurgle is nurgle.
I went for an aquatic theme(check out the pics in modelling diaries), so if you want stinky lookin' water-logged skin have a look into it
Theres so many interpretations you could go for, like the wacky circus nurgle

Just please dont do the typical thing of green...ergh.

There's nothing wrong with green, just gets repetitive after a while.
It's just like purple Dark Elves (I couldn't buy Liche Purple for
weeks after their army-book was released).

Well I've managed to get my hands on a few plaguebearers, a great unclean one, some spawn to use as nurgle beasts for plagueriders a few bases of nurglings and a dark elf chariot to which I'll add greenstuffed slime, rotting flesh and other lovely disease ridden things. I'll of course add some converted nurgle beasts to the chariot.
Sp00n gave me a great idea of hunting for cheap toys (dogs, walrus, rats etc) from the reject shop etc to use as a basis for conversion. I've been searching but haven't found anything quite right just yet.
Next on the list of models to get is more plaguebearers, a demon prince (fly model etc), and possibly a dark elf war hydra to use as the basis for one of the nurgle beasts for the plagueriders.
Let me know any more ideas you have, and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I had a great idea for my daemon prince while I was at work all weekend.
My daemon prince will be based on one of the 4 horsemen of the Acopalypse, namely, Pestilence. Pestilence is given the job of spreading disease around the globe when the end of the world draws near. My nurgle army will represent the horde of Pestilence wreaking havoc all over the world.
For the actual figure, I'll use the Archaon miniature, add wings, and make it look generally more Nurglish. This figure will act as a daemon prince in terms of the rules.
Now I just need to get my hands on the Archaon figure..... I think I'm off to BSS!
I'll keep you posted on my progress.
