I am looking to construct a new dedicated 6' x 4' wargames table for my games room and want to do something very different. I am pretty much set for how the terrain on top will be done (2' x 2' boards with depth for trenches, waterways, sunken roads and so on), but am still debating how to build the rest without detonating the budget. My best idea seems so far to rest on placing a 6' x 4' board on top of a number of 'tallboy' drawer units. This may be a little expensive, though. Anyone else have any better ideas?

Cheers

Drunk Dwarves have a really good tutorial on how to build a dedicated gaming table. This design is easily modified to fit drawers and bench space.

Thanks.

Interesting table. Especially the transportable bit. Not something one thinks of at first.

Not really, but I like the "stay home" sort of table, myself.

If you add turned legs from Bunnings (somewhere in the wood section) and stained the wood, it wouldn't look out of place in any room of the house. A couple of bar stools for chairs and you've got yourself a real dedicated table. Then add in the bar, vending machine, and... biggrin.gif

For boards, make it in 2x2 foot sections. Then if you are doing Cityfight or ruined multi-level buildings, use Rare Earth Magnets (a couple per level), so each level is removable. This helps gameplay, but more importantly, it lowers the height of the gaming table. The building levels could just go into some foam for protection.
Then you have a not-so-tall gaming table that you can store in smaller places. tongue.gif

Never thought of using rare earth magnets in such a way. Could probably get a similar effect by setting up the ruins using pegs and holes or a system of ledges built into the terrain pieces. But this may be harder to set up than the magnets, IMHO.

A bar next to the table, now we're talking. Does it come with a dedicated bar staff and table service?
