Hey All,

WSGS will be kicking off a 'build as you go' 2nd ed 40K in March, so I thought I'd kick off a new army for it. Having read the Badab War books from FW I thought the Minotaurs looked very cool and set about putting together some fluff. The initial force (and the first couple of expansions) will be a boarding team sent into a Space Hulk above the planet upon which the campaign will take place. So only Terminators, scouts and dreads (and a techmarine to look after the dread as 2nd ed requires it). I've ordered a Caestus Assault Ram as well for flavour and have been working on some 2nd ed stats for it with the other club guys.

Given 2nd ed requires markedly less minis I want to go to town and make each guy an individual. I've ordered parts from about 12 different places for the conversions and I'm currently waiting for them to arrive. In the meantime, I put together a tac marine to try out the bronze and aging techniques. Obviously missing one shoulder pad as I'm waiting for Minotaur pads from FW.

Dude, that's not what a 2nd ed minotaur should look like. Where's the red and yellow dazzle cammo! biggrin.gif

Seriously though, looks good, though I think you went a little heavy on the verdigris.
Iago
Subscribed - as someone who has still played more games of 2nd ed than later editions, I'm very intersted to see how this goes. I sometimes feel I prefer some of the RT/2nd Ed and even 3rd ed sculpts for the character in them and the lack of size-creep. (Nids in particular)

Yeah, as I said, he's a test mini. It doesn't actually look that pronounced 'in the flesh'. I played around with a couple of greens before I found one that worked.

I did consider the original Minotaurs scheme, for about half a second. armata_PDT_14.gif

Some of the rogue trader marine schemes were even worse though. Rainbow Warriors springs to mind. armata_PDT_05.gif
Magos_Kasen
The minotaurs had one of the most epic colour schemes ever biggrin.gif They put the dazzle into dazzle cammo.

GW Scaly Green thinned down to basically green water. The others were too, well, green huh.gif

Looking good there Biggy, i would prefer the chromoe scheme better myself then the red and yellow cross sections with the stripes bit over the top skis

Glad to see more and more people getting back into " the golden era " that was 40k keep it up smile.gif
Comrade
This is a cool idea, I'll have to follow this. Also, Squats. That is all.
Minion
I endorse this, and any other, 2nd ed action. Looking good, Biggy! Verdigris is working for me. The fourth picture down, I swear I see a flat top and a mullet; MacGuyver? armata_PDT_01.gif

I got your Squats right here, Comrade!
Biggy

Just received my order of a lot of these bases. For the Minotaurs.

Still waiting on other bits.
TyRaide
Oh man, I don't think I could even read when 2nd ed was around. The idea of basing an army from the Badab War books is sick though, and those bases will look great too.
Biggy
Finally had some stuff arrive so I can get crackin' on these guys.

This is blue-tacked together for the minute, still working out the pose etc. Got hold of some 'injured marines' from GW. Considering putting a muzzle flash on the wounded guy who will of course be a Lamenter (given the Minotaurs all but destroyed the chapter at Optera). Thinking about a banner maybe but it doesn't really fit with the idea of the 'boarding party'. Not sure yet.

Whilst I'm baffled at the choice of hurricane bolters it's all looking great!

I just think they look cool. Modelling is more important to an old fart like me. As a boarding party support dread, long range stuff isn't that important too. He may suck in the game but he'll look cool. biggrin.gif
Biggy
First Terminator assembled. He'll have a large hoplite shield on the Left arm so it looks a bit too close to the body. Still waiting for them to arrive sad.gif

Hope to get him painted (minus the shield obviously) this weekend.

NICE! Great work on the termi. Really makes him look like a charging bull
Biggy
First termie is just about finished (minus shield....still waiting for them grrrrrr) pics probably tomorrow. Meanwhile next mini is assembled. Apothecary in Terminator armour. Not quite sure here on colours. I' thinking at present, legs and lower arms bronze and the torso/shoulders white. Opinions?

Looking good, where are they crests from ??
Biggy
They're from a UK bits company. Zealot Miniatures.
Tinwing
Agreed looking good. Where did that metal sword come from?

Was in my bits box. I think it's from the old terminator captain. armata_PDT_04.gif

Here is the first finished Terminator (minus his Hoplite Shield that STILL hasn't arrived grrrr). Apothecary is now underway.

That looks shmick mate, cant wait to see more of them.
Biggy
Cheers mate. I've got about 8 weeks before the 2nd ed campaign (starting in 2 weeks) kicks up the points. So need to get the initial 1000points done in that time.
Lachy
I must confess, when I first looked at the scheme on your test mini, I was a bit "meh" about the scheme.

Then I saw this termie, and the "meh" changed to "holy ######!"

If this mini is anything to go by, this army will look incredible. The basing alone is some of the best I've seen.
khrome.knight
Very nicely done on the terminator. I like the poses you have, I find it gives way more character to the model then the paint ever could. The paint is by no means less then remarkable (which makes me want to do your bronze weathering style on my iron warriors lol) however I like your attention to detail smile.gif Works well with the base too tongue.gif
Biggy
In progress shots of the Apothecary in Terminator armour....

If I never play this force I'll be sad. You are doing great great stuff!
For the Horde
looks good!!
with the completed termie, the orange looks as though it is clashing with the crimon magenta/red??
would a blue be better or yellow??
again it just comes down to personal taste.
still looks great tho
Biggy
Cheers. I trialled several colours before settling on the red/orange. It'll be toned down a bit once the hoplite shield is attached (assuming they ever arrive) armata_PDT_10.gif

i'm curious what rules you're using for the dreadnaught. especially its hurricane bolters, which didnt exist in 2nd ed.

i suppose you could use the weapon point conversion rules from dark millenium to trade a twin heavy bolter for twin stormbolters and add a pintle stormbolter (and presumably a billion hunter killer missiles, or atleast two with frag autolaunchers)
thats a wickedly cheap dreadnaught (atleast without the HKs) and 4 stormbolters aint exactly to be sneezed at

i miss 2nd ed >.>
Biggy
We've been working through some conversions for 2nd ed for use in the campaign. Here is the Hurricane bolter conversion (there's more in the full list and more to come)

Hurricane Bolters (Land Raider Crusader and Ironclad Dreadnought) 12 Points

Counts as 3 Stormbolters that must be targeted at the same unit.

Can be placed on a Land Raider replacing the sponson weapons (deduct the cost of the Lascannons first). Therefore a Land Raider with two sets of ‘Hurricane Bolters instead of the lascannons would cost 154 points (220 [raider] - 90 [lascannons] + 24 [hurricanes]). You could of course modify this further by adding the standard Crusader’s multi-melta for a total cost of 219 points.

Alternatively a ‘hurricane bolter’ can be placed on a Dreadnought as one arm. If placed on a Dreadnought the options for the Dreadnought’s other arm become restricted to;
Power Fist with built in Stormbolter (15 points)
Thunder Hammer with built in Meltagun (15 points)
Chainfist with built in Meltagun (12 Points)
Either Meltagun above may be replaced by a heavy flamer (12 points)

A Dreadnought configured in this way (and only a Dreadnought configured in this way) may take up to two Hunter Killer Missiles for the standard vehicle upgrade cost but may only fire one in a turn.
Plebicidal
Nice work!
Id like to see a pic of your test mini against a plain background though.. I couldnt really make the details out armata_PDT_04.gif

spartan-esque termies ready to bury their enemy!
Baneful
damn he looks great!
Iron_Adam
looks good but those crests look like they'd restrict head movement to much maybe they should be raised a bit with a pin eg:
IPB Image
Biggy
Well they are (and were) made from hair so they're pretty flexible. I did trial a pinned up plume but it looked crapulence. sad.gif
Minion
Biggy my man, these guys are looking awesome! Maybe at some stage you could share with us a list of all the various bits and pieces that you're using to build them, and where those pieces came from? Because I'm seriously loving what you're doing with these Terminators!
Biggy
Update time. Here's the next two on the block. Terminator Sergeant and Techmarine with conversion beamer.

Still waiting on the hoplons to complete the other terminator (and this one). Lighting's not the best in a couple of these shots. Sorry.

Hopefully get some paint on them this weekend.

Looking great, Biggy! I've got a massive crush on your Terminators.

Hey, that claw on the techmarine? Looks from these photos like it's resin, or maybe plastic. Would you mind sharing the source? I might be in the market for just that sort of thing for a Squat Engineer...

Yeah Mate, it's the Chapterhouse conversion beamer pack.
Assaultguardsman
Really nice work. Like the base tie-in and the painting style.
Lextheimpaler
Love the tech marine.
Kinsmanalike
