Here are some pics after a change of Base and Pipes painted.
What do you think?
Not going for crazy extreme highlights, just for a clean-neat paint job.

The silver looks flat so I would try for a bit more levels. Also try and do the cables and pipes on his re-breather in colours. gives depth to the head. other than that all cool.

nice paint job!
im not sure i like the pose, kinda looks a bit awkward (i probably just dont follow the line of though assosciated with assembling it) that being said, its good to see some variety in there!

Thanks guys, some good positive advice.
The pose is a bit different to what you might normally see, I sort of try to envisage him running and doing a leap in step as he charges his sword in the air. I used the Khorne Berserker running legs just to try to give him some movement.
I will work on the silver, and might add some colour to the pipes.

Looking the shh-goods!!
I agree, some coloured pipes/wires on the rebreather, adding some depth to the head.
Maybe something for him to leap over.. would be sweet on the base too

Good job Tom, although he does look like an ultramarine more than a Crimson Fist, what blue did you use?

ooooh...
khorne berserker running legs
not good.... they look shit really... ok for a normal marine but not for a captain... make him look like a court jester
actually because hes looking at the ground, it looks like he tripped on that large rock on his base.
i personally think its worth cutting him in two and slapping new legs on him, maybe assault marine legs, look much more like a running pose.
Trust me GW sculptors really blew it with the khorne running legs

Put him in an elevated position, on a rock, log, whatever then the "looking down" problem is solved
Makes him then look like he is looking down to smite his foe as opposed to looking where he is about to fall

hmm, I would have used Assault Marine legs if I had any.
The Blue is Regal Blue for a base, then another coat of Regal Blue mixedin with a bit of Rotting Flesh. He is a bit darker in person, the photography makes him come up light.
Allright, so:
-paint piping
-find alltermative legs

I like the Berserker Legs Tom :-)
Plus they are taller than standard Marine legs - suitable for a more heroic commander!

Well I am a fan of the pose too Hagen, apart from you it seem universal miscontent!
Ill definately do the piping, as thats easy.
As for ruining a mini wen I have the parts to easily put together a new one, Ill save that for a rainier day
Cheers guys, Ive got another Captain in the pipeline, and in the larger list, this guy above will be a Company Champion, but at smaller points, I like his cheap configuration to be a commander.

OK, changes made, pics posted :-D
First post has some new pics,
Changes:
-Pipes on re-breather painted colours
-New Base to compliment pose
I decided pulling the mini apart would be too destructive, as I use Loc-tite glue, and it is excrutiating to get the torso from the legs once its stuck, with cutting or doing massive damage, so that stays.
Do you like the improvements?

Tom

I likes him alot Buddha. I am not a big fan of the berzerker legs either but i think you do a good job with them. The changes are really good. I like them.

with the legs, if you are going to do another similar mini, try to put the foot of the running leg a little bit more behind the butt of the mini. i think if you put the foot to far out it looks as though the marine is running through calf deep water.

Looks the goods to me. I quite like the flow of the 'running over ridge' look. it kinda looks like he is cresting a hill which is also nice.
and the pipes look much better.
just noticed. You might want to thing the highlight on the flat of the sword down a bit, or see if you cant blend it a bit more. looks a tad stark. Get that fixed and he will be sorted in my opinion:P
