After some excellent fire by Faramirsmumma last week I was inspired to do a marine from the excomunicated Flame Falcons chapter. These guys so inspired by their love of the emperor they burst into flame.
To start I put together a marine and decided on a paint scheme, as no pictures are available for the Flame Falcons I decided on a couple of colours that I like to paint and that would complement the colours of the flames. I haven't picked out all the detail, but I think he looks good even without the flames.

I drilled some holes across the top of his pauldrons and backpack, inserted some wire to hold up the GS and went to work sculpting the flames. Painted as per previous posts.
What do you think? A whole army might be OTT, but as a display piece he looks pretty good, just have to finish off the details, like eyes.

Cheers,
Steve

DAMN, THATS HOT!!!
HE'S ON FIRE!
3rd fire realated pun.
Good job mate, really looks nice. Perhaps you couls do a whole army, though only HQ/Sargents/Assualt Marines to be on fire?

Fanfreakingtastic!

Your flames seem to be alot thicker then mine, I put it down to the scuplting tool (I use a toothpick

).
Thanks for the reference, I've done a second marker and they are nearly finished, i'll post some pictures if you want. One question though, if you are doing an objective marker, you paint it first, then add the GS? Right?
Thanks mate, that is amazing - Ork Burna Boyz got to him first

Like it Steve.
Especially the flames licking up the back of his heels.
Very cool.

Looks great!
Now you just need to finish another 950-odd points, and bring them to ][con. Two land raiders ought to speed up the painting...

Looks good Steve. Sgt Reimer eh? Bit of a smeghead?
Wouldn't want to see him bite that fist.
As others have said, a whole army of these would look incredible.

Thanks for the words guys!
Reimer, actually the name came from a textbook on scanning electron microscopy sitting in front of me.
The challenge was to make it look like he wanted to be on fire, not just attacked by previously mentioned burner boy.
Faramirsmumma - check out the long grass behind him, that stuff would look great on your objective marker, char the end up with some black paint.
Bishop - the little flames came out OK, didn't like the look of them in the green stage but just enough depth to drybrush up into flames.
Cheers again, look out DOOM next!

Next step would be to do the lighting off the flame... I know it's hard but would complete the model as a show piece

He looks like he's in league with some warp-spawned force. He must be purged... ;-)
Reckon you could make his nose on fire? :-)
Seriously good work Steve. Looks great.

Forgot to post the V3 special rules:
All Flaming Falcons are covered in fire and thus obscured, always count as in cover, 5+ inv save, +3pts per marine. Not allowed to use transports of any kind. Use Cursed Foundings list, Chapter Approved annual, though not officially chapter approved IIRC.

hmmm you probably went a bit overboard to be perfectly honest, still you did a good job, but it would've looked better perhaps with just the powerfist on fire and just a few patches of fire.
I would really like to see some fire sculpting on a Menoth army.

Zippy, I was thinking of doing something with the castigator and fire when it was released, like a big ring of fire spurting from his flamer hand doohickeys. Probably would look good on temple flame guard and Feora as well.

Go for it:D
I think it would look awesome, just be sure you don't obscure too much of the detail.

There's a lot of fire there I agree, but the fluff mentions that the marines are immolated. I figured if I wanted to do truly immolated marines then I don't need to go to the effort of even using the marine model underneath.
Small amounts of fire look OK but I think there is a certain amount required before the effect looks good. Some Warmachine stuff would look good with a bit of fire, but the thing that really calls to me is replacing the blue coils on the Thunderhead(?) with electroluminescent wire, looks like an easy swap and would look great!
