Hi Guys just going to get the ball moving with this one now that the high lords list is up and running. So who is going, whats the plans for travel, for accommodation and most importantly whats everyone taking tongue.gif .

I'm able to drive and will more then likely be going back and forth each day. Wasn't too hard for Biv, and its not that different to how far I have to drive to work and uni every weekday so thats my plan. As for my list, well it looks like I'll be taking a list that I think is tough as nails, but that everyone else thinks is lacking and could do so much better with the points so I'm rather happy, but I still think it'll be comp 3/10 max but I really couldn't care anymore about comp.

The list is closely resembling my Biv list but cutting the thunder hammers guys (which did nothing but took the first wound every turn) and re-compiling the termies back into 5 units of 5 all shooty guys and taking out the speeders which bled kill points and the missiles only add a little extra firepower but I think I'm fine with the 10 I'll have, then adding an extra vindicator. So definitely going for the windicator tactics this time around.

I've just discovered how fantastic the army painter sprays are for tanks. My god they make it so much faster and the tanks look so much cleaner which will suit the crisp look of the army I'm going for.

So whats everyone else doing?

I will be staying down most likely, taking advantage of the traditional trivia night.

Will be finishing and taking my green cyborg tech marine army
Grog
Connor is taking our flesh testers army from last year. With all the kill points on offer it should do quite well. I am taking the iron warriors. We will be driving to and from each day like last year.
casperionx
Ditto on driving down...if I can get the army ready in time it will be nipple guard grey knights (Sang guard x grey knights) LOTS of halberds.

If its not...then it will be necrons again wink.gif
Azure Fade
Nids here - Mitch will be GKing it up. Traveling to and from again this time, it just saves alot more money.

smally can I bum a lift?
smally
Well it looks like we'll be doing a bit of driving. I'm willing to take my car which has decent spec and can fit 3 people and their armies in the car or I can fit 1 more and chuck the armies in the boot. I would prefer to stick to 4 people otherwise it gets a bit squishy for those in the back.

So who is in need of a lift?

I'd like to put my name down for a lift Smally. I won't be carrying much gear - just my usual gaming backpack.

Will probably have Deathwing for this Lords, maybe my DE if I can get them finished in time.

Since I've only won one game at high lords, and assuming its in 5th. I'm taking something that looks pretty, should do good on comp and might win a game

Vulkan
MoF - Combi Flamer, thunder hammer

5 Stern Guard - Sgt w/Fist and Combi Melta, Combi Melta, Melta gun, Heavy Flamer
Razor Back

2 x Dreadnoughts w/ 2 x twin linked auto cannons

10 Tac Marines - Fist, combi-melta, melta, multi melta
Razor Back
10 Scouts - sgt w/fist and combi flamer, 4 shot guns, 4 snipers, 1 missile launcher

Landspeeder storm - Multi Melta
5 Assault Marines - sgt w/Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield, Flamer

3 x Thunder Fire Cannons

Tech Marine pads thanks to you guys and forge world etched brass and transfers ordered, Sons of Medusa Scheme, Photos to follow
Azure Fade
Your problem will be trying to win a game with only 2 scoring units (yes yes you can combat squad but 5 marines or 5 scouts are easy to remove...)
chadmac
I could ditch the toys (mof, stern guard, ass marines, 5 scouts ) and take 3 more tac squads but decided that was boring

Well I'm not in doubt about lords of terra. Firstly I didn't enjoy it too much last year and I'm not terrably excited about returning, and I've noticed that its also my Mum's birthday on the Saturday and I would pretty much be asking for it if I even think about going away for a weekend to play warhammer on my mum's birthday.

So at the moment I'm going to have to say I'm not going. Sorry Chad, I know I told you I could give you a lift but at least for now you would be much better off looking for alternatives.
chadmac
anyone for a cheap hotel and trivia saturday night?
casperionx
I have 2 spare seats on the trip down and back both days if needed Spakka & Chad. Let me know if you need it.

Results are out. Placings include:
Damien 3rd place in the open Lords.
Connor picked up best Junior.

Also:
Darren head actually got a comp score above 1. (28/40, so 7/10)
Meanwhile Damien achieved what he failed to do last year and got highest comp the open field.

Im actually happy with how well I did, I was gunning for Best general, but I made too many tactical errors in the first and second game, and the 5th game well, that was against the overall winner, and honestly, I should have marked down on sports...he played very very slowly. But cest le vie.

Lowest comp score in Lords '12...and loving it!
Starfire
Did you ask him to speed up?
casperionx
I pushed him to go quicker, the start of the game could have gone on a lot longer if I didnt start getting a little bit grumpy.
Azure Fade
Go Connor!

"We value our younger generation of gamers (especially those kids that come 11th over all smashing some of you so called 'grown ups' shame)."
casperionx
Kudos to Connor, he did damn well smile.gif

That's awesome. Didn't pick up on that the first time I read through the Lords thread. Didn't get him out of washing the car though tongue.gif

I wonder if Connor has achieved some sort of record by being only 10 years old! All other best juniors that i have seen have been teenagers. I would also like to point out that Connor achieved his result with no scoring units at all in his army!
casperionx
He didnt have any scoring units?? Wow, I thought he did...damn, I feel like crap now tongue.gif

All jokes aside, he did damn well. Did you make him wash the car? Or did you end up buying him a book lol!?

Cant wait for next year lads.

They drew in the end - believe the final agreement was that Connor still has to wash 1 car but Darren also buys him a book.

Definitely a record for the Lords of Terra comp (and one very unlikely to be beaten for some time), I'd say he's also likely achieved a record within NSW. In over 10 years of tourney play, I can only recall seeing one other preteen player who was an actual tournament player (ie, playing by themselves and not tagging along with a parent/other club member) in an event as large as Lords. Kid was 12 and came near dead last.

Other than that, only time I've seen players younger than 13 has been at small scale club events with <=10 participants, and those were more casual and fun events, not serious events with actual prizes like Lords.

So Connor has joined the prestigious realm of Best Junior at Lords. Well done, you have made us all very proud pirates.

Good work on the podium finish Damien, about time you started using the bikes again in my opinion. They are just too awesome in the overall balance of the game (both play wise and tournament breakdown) and have the ability to win games out of no where. Love it.

Looks like the pirates did well over all. Shame I couldn't go this time round but I'm preparing for 6th ed as we speak, and my return to 40k tournaments will hopefully be accompanied by a freshly painted army (if all goes well).
