Hello all,

Just introducing myself.

I first brought in to Battletech way back in 1987 when I went to a Games Day convention, throughout my later years at school we would regularly play games during lunch and after school. I got older, as we do, and joined the armed forces. I continued collecting Battletech stuff and got to somewhere in the region of 300 mechs. Helped along the way by the local game store to where I was based having Battletech figures in a bargain bin all the time.

Anyway to cut a long story short much changed in my life and I came to a point where all my gaming stuff had to go. I did keep my Battletech novels though (55 of them)

A few years ago I moved from one side of the world to the other and rediscovered the wonderful Battletech universe.

So since late 2010 I have been trying to rebuild my collection. I am currently an active player in a year long campaign ( this bring my second year) and recently managed to win a Battletech tournament.

Well all this talk I guess I should post some pictures smile.gif

The Orange and Black Mechs are for Clan Fire Mandrill Kindraa Payne but I dont have any close ups of those to hand.

I love Awesome's, they are just so Awesome.

I recently entered a tournament and was dared to field an Awesome force so this is what I came up with.

IPB Image

The Davion Guard Coloured were Elite Pilots and all Awesome were the 4 PPC version (for the tournament you could use any Mech designs)
You got bonus Victory points for destroying the Enemy Command Mech. I used the Jump 10 Ostscout as my commander.

So that's a force of

10 Mechs packing a combined total of...
36 PPC's
9 Small Lasers
2 ER Medium Lasers
2,319 Points of Armour
362 Heat Sinks

For a little under 20,000 BV.

This little force proved pretty much unstoppable. Throughout the tournament I lost 5 Mechs total. In return I completely annihilated to a man every force I went up against. It was just done as a dare and i have to admit I did feel a bit dirty biggrin.gif
So I won the tournament by a considerable margin and the Ostscout netted the best painted command Mech.

Thanks for listening

Hey Hutch, an Awesome looking force you have there mate. Great paintwork and all very neatly done!!!

Every one of those mini's has been finished off so well.

I love that dropship too, fantastic model and great work painting it up...thanks for sharing your pics mate smile.gif

Also, your display board looks fantastic and that game you had sounds like it was a lot of fun smile.gif

I know what your force is missing - Awesomes. Maybe you should get some Awesome Battlemechs LOL.

That looks like my collection of Marauders, Marauder IIs and Marauder IICs. From memory I have 10 (old styles) and 2 (new style) Marauders, 2 (old style and 1 (new style) Marauder IIs, and another 2 Marauder IIcs (old style), although one of these is a little banged up.

My mate Martin is the same way with Timberwolves/ Madcats.

The Davion Heavy Guards colour scheme really looks good, and I love the drop ship - map scale as well.

Reading this bit just piqued my curiosity a bit.

A 4/5 Awesome starts at 1875 BV2 and just by going to 3/4 pilot it adjusts to 2587 BV2 according to Solaris Skunk Werks. How did u get under 20,000 BV with 9 of those bad boys if 6 of them were "Elite"? Or is that just a term you use to reflect the paintjobs or something?

If they were all 4/5's pilots then you would have definitely been under 20,000.

yeah I guess I should have explained that a bit better really.

My force was this,

1 x Ostscout OTT-10CS(Army Commander) Gunnery 6 Piloting 4 (his job was to stay out of the way (hence no need for a good gunnery, I lowered the Piloting just in case he needed it)
845 BV

6 x Awesome AWS-9Q The more elite then the other Awesomes, Gunnery 3 Piloting 5 (we played there could be no more then a 2 point difference, By dropping the Gunnery to 3 it vastly improves their hit rate.)
2250 BV each or 13500 BV for all six

3 x Awesome AWS-9Q with Gunnery 4 Piloting 5.
1875 BV each or 5625 BV for the three.

Total of 19970 BV armata_PDT_34.gif

Edit.

Just to add, the tournament had a 12 Units per side maximum with no Aerospace / Vehicles / Infantry or power armour allowed.
MisterAnderson
Ahhh, rightio then.

I guess when I hear the word "Elite", I'm expecting 0 or 1 Gunnery's. Haven't thought of a 3/4 or 3/5 pilot being referred to as "Elite" since the original Tales of the Black Widow Company module came out in 1985.

Ah I see.

There were some people in the Tournament that had Gunnery 1 piloting 1 Mechs but there forces lost out on numbers and therefore armour boxes. I think they had 5-6 Mechs total. I figured more guns would be the better option and that most people would be bringing Big things, which tend to be slow and not generate too much of a modifier went trying to hit them. I was looking at an average target number of 8 for my Gunnery 4 Mechs. Based on Gunnery 4, Medium Range 2, Walking 1 and Target being an assault Mech so slow movement 1. This meant that I had roughly a 41% chance of hitting. With my Gunnery dropping to 3 this gave me a 58% chance of hitting. Remaining stationary turned those to 58% and 72% respectively. By concentrating fire it was pretty much goodbye to al least one enemy Mech per turn.
MisterAnderson
Volume fire is certainly one of the most proven tactics out there. The more chances you have to hit means the more you'll get hits. Kinda why I love the Hunchback 4P so much - 8 medium lasers!

And I'm also a believer of more mechs on the field rather than way better pilots for that reason and for reasons of initiative.
Smurf
Totally agree. Another key factor I was working on was the more turns I could get out of the time limit for each game the more damage I could do. With all my Mechs having PPC (the only weapons I fired) it made it so much quicker to work out my target numbers each turn. Blocks of 10 Damage a turn are nice to work with as well.

With so much fire power I was looking for either head hits, Centre Torso hits or for Mechs with Engine Critical's in the Side torsos then Side torso hits.

Hunchback 4P is a very nice Mech. Just recently been trying out a Locust IIc in my clan force. That's a nasty little Mech that you don't want behind you.

Nice Fed Suns mechs. Another Company, then another, then .... here is my Regimental Combat team. smile.gif

For mister Thumb biter - loved the silly ditty, here is one my dad used to say to me.

Early in the morning - late at night,
2 dead men began to fight,
back to back they faced each other.
drew their swords and shot each other.
