What do you think of Impetus Matt.. compared to say DBM or FoG?

I prefer the aesthetic of the bases, but how do the rules play out?
bluewill
very simple, I like the initiative and the fighting until a result! the basing is nice and you can get a 300 point game over in 2 to 3 hours

Hey Matt,

Where do you get the Impetus rules from ?

I love Ancients and have been looking for a set of rules, unfortunately WAB is no longer available, and I like the sounds of Impetus from what is being said above.

Cheers

Mav,

directly from their website,

It is a simple set of rules that give a real feeling control, momentum and no control..........The Argentoratum game was very large (Romans 13000men) (Germans 32000 men) all done and dusted four hours with only four of us who knew the rules (out of 6), a average sized 300 point game can be done in around 50 mins to two hours depends upon your ability to roll well when you get the initiative, as each unit fights until you get a result, archery whittles you down, and makes it harder for you to gain impetus, cav is tough but will give up the ghost if you roll badly....which I tend to do a lot!

You can download the basic set for free, try them out! As they are a Italian rule set the English translation is a little off in the free set, but you should be able to follow it, I can put you in touch with a few players in Sydney if you want to try them.

there are four different period army books, so pick a period and buy that army book. The rules are also backed up with a good forum.

cheers

If you could shoot me a PM with those names and where they are, that would be fantastic.

Have downloaded the basic rules and I will pain up my warlord, 28mm Romans so I can play a game orv2 with the basic rules to get the hang of the system.

Cheers

Mav
