Are there any units that become "MUST HAVE".
Do Grey Wolves or Blood Claws take any major change?
Is it still viable to run a grimnar + PA wolf guard list?
Do Long Fangs change much?
How important are vehicles now, and how does the balance of them change in general?

Not much has changed on those.
What you will find is shooting down flying monsterous creatures or vehicle fliers will be almost impossible without guard allies due to the lack of anti aircaft weapons. You can only hit them on a 6 and they have a standard 5+ cover save.

I read SOMETHING about flak missiles in missile launchers? Does this counter it? Also, with this, do all forms of missile launchers help, such as cyclone missile launchers?
But it's space wolves, I've ALWAYS wanted to do a combined army. I mean it seems that the Space Wolves have so much of their history wrapped up with the Guard, and working with them as "equals"... or at least as worthy allies.

I'll be running Loganwing as normal.

( not to mention that grey hunters back up by imperial blobs, and a few long range tanks will be AWESOME )
But yeah, I just wanted to know because I'm parting ways with a few more space wolves and wanted to know if I should keep any particular units that have just got far more awesome?

iv read about the flak missile to. In the rule book it says:
"All missile launcher came with frag and krak missiles as standard, and some have the potion to upgrade to to include flakk missiles"
I have looked through the space marine and space wolf new faq's and there is nothing in there refering to any missile launcher upgrading to flakk. So you cant use it
Until long fangs/landspeeders etc can you flakk they have no reliable anti aircraft. They arent the only codex either.
I totally agree joining them with guard is awsome. But you shouldnt be forced to.

Hydras suffer because they have the Skyfire rule but not Interceptors. This means that they can only snap fire against ground units - which is not so useful. You're probably better off getting a single Vendetta for less than the price of two Hydras, since flyers can choose whether to use the Skyfire rule or not.

I'm currently wondering if "ignore the flyer" will be viable. It's a bit hard to do with flying MCs, but properly constructed I think a list can probably put most flyers into the deal with it at the end of the game basket.

They got hit with the acute senses nerf
Not a bonus or nerf but the changes to the toughness of bracketed models is a buff to everyone elese.
While I wont it us it because it cheesy. Wolfgaurd are characters so you can precison shot/stike with them as well as look out sir

The rules for Night Fighting have also changed a lot so I don't think this really affects their relative power.

Yeah I suppose. I don't think it's that relevant here to determining if they are still good.

I don't think this is that big a deal, it's 6's to hit allow you to snipe a dude out, and 4+ to let a grey hunter die instead of your wolfguard which would only happen if you got sloppy with placement or your unit is getting murdered.

Just shoot at flyers when ever you move with your heavy weapons, 6's to hit any way might as well make good use of it.

Not everyone plays guard and can afford to waste heavy weapons fire like that.

lol true
I just mean if you happen to be moving a unit with heavy weapons (for some reason), you might as well try to take down a flyer. Your better of not moving them if you can help it.

Take an aegis defence line with quad gun. Skyfire interceptor autocannon, plus 4+ cover to anything inside. Use a model that can't fire long distance (grey hunters, logan if you want). Its cheap for a decent gun. prettty much a rifleman dreadnought

Yeah I've just been reading the fortification rules. They seem compulsory at least to start with.

I think its definitely viable, and from memory you have a chance to knock flying mc's out of the air and hit them normally for the rest of their wounds yeah?

Jul 2 2012, 05:02 PM
Yeah, I think you need to hit it with shooting, then they have to roll a 1 or a 2 to fall out of the sky. Once per unit's shooting. If it falls it takes a S9 no armour saves hit and can be assaulted. Still 6s to hit for the rest of the turn though but no more jink 5++ for the turn.
Doesn't seem that strong a chance.

Vehicles can't contest anyway? So unless that Flyer is going to hurt you so bad you can't ignore it, then, you can ignore it?

The only thing thats making me sad about my Space Wolves in 6th ed is I have aways put Frost Axes on my Wolf Lords (i bought the finecast wolf lord on thunderwolf just for his Frost Axe!).. and not Frost axe is +2 str, ap 2 and I1.. may as well just use a thunderhammer.

Extra atttack or a bigger boost to strength? I generally prefer S8 over S6, but thats just me...

They're mostly one shot wonders still though right? So there's diminishing returns from shooting them down?

I still like frost axes as an option because they are cheap, but yeah... may as well have a thunderhammer. I'm sure there will be lots of counts as going on with power weapons so probably not a huge deal.

I wouldn't mind it on my Wolf Guard or something like that, but don't really want it on my Wolf Lord on his Mount.. that being said he is generally going to last until the end of combat - not much brings the pain to him.
The extra attack is true, but I use a storm shield on him just for him to realy hang around there - not the Optimal Load out, but the times he has killed Wraith Lords and stuff like that is nice for his saga =)
