A question from my game on sat:
I cast purple sun at my opponents hellcannon, it hit and he failed his I test. What we didnt know was if the monster got to roll to see if one of the handlers was swallowed up instead (as per p73 "if the monster suffers an unsaved wound, roll a D6...") We diced it and he didnt get to roll.

I'm not sure if we played this right because Purple sun says "no saves of any kind are allowed", but the monster&handler "wardsave" isnt classified as a save anywhere - so does he get to roll for it even though "no armour saves are allowed". I didn't find anything in the FAQ.

This seems right RAW-wise, but I can't get over the idea that even though a huge purple sun passes over the entire monster it has the potential to only swallow up a little man hiding underneath - seems odd...

Anyways, quotes and page refs very welcome, others not so much tongue.gif
slayerofmen
the whole model is removed

Edit:
i felt the need to repeat myself again but i wont!

The monsters and handlers "ward save" is only used when the model is wounded. Purple sun doesn't do wounds, it just removes the model so you cant transfer it on to the handler.

Page 73 of the small rulebook under Monster and Handlers section refers to unsaved wounds triggering the role to see whether a handler is removed instead. Since the result of failing the Initative test for eithe purple sun or Pit is the model being removed as a casualty without any saves of any kind that its pretty clearly not taking a wound, ergo the handlers don't come into it.

See also page 7 of the latest FAQ for how characteristic tests work on Monsters and Handlers.

I fear this might be a case of a less experienced player taking it oboard too literally when some players talk of monsters having an effect 5+ ward save.

There are lots of instances of short hand language amongst players that I'm sure can lead to alot of confusion amongst those new to the game.

i didnt think it was literally a "wardsave" (hence the quotes), but it didnt register that there were just no unsaved wounds. thanks for clearing it up for us Roy and Al!

Oh don't get me wrong I wasn't referring to you but to your opponent, since he seemed to be the one arguing for a role for the handlers?
