Hey all.

Just curiuous of anyone has played with or against a mortis contemptor with the dual khyres assault cannons, wondering how it played and if you think it is too over the top for normal 40k games.

For its points I wouldnt think its over the top but I have yet to play with or against one. Ive bought the model cause I think it looks awsome.

Would you allow it to be played? Or is it one of the definate nonos.

Thanks =)

I used it once and decided it was better off with the twin autocannons and a cyclone.

I used it in Wintercon and a lot of people commented that it would become target number one anytime they face another one, however they didnt say it was broken or over the top. They had just never faced one before and so didnt know to make it a high priority.

Once I explained how much it cost they were pretty comfortable with it.

I fielded mine with Twin Kheres and a Cyclone Missile Launcher. With BS5 it would utterly tear things apart inside of 24", it still had enough punch at 48" with the CML to keep people wary. but we are still talking something like 240pts from memory.

Now with Glancing hits, I think it will become even more fragile, however it might be a far better option than a standard dread due to its 5+ invuln.

As normal in CC it sucks bad.

Im taking it for its AA ability also. I think for 215 points its well costed for a normal game of 40k. Ill see how it goes I can imagine it being a priorty target though.

it's the Skyfire ability that is really good. That's why I'm assembling mine. It's another option instead of the aegis or bastion with autocannons. And it's better again at pulling stuff from the sky. 2 BS5 S8 over 2 TL BS2 (even BS4) along with 12 24" S6 rending at 24" is great.
Even if you take it with 2 TL autocannons as well it's a hell of a model at taking out fliers.

Why on earth does a 24" range weapon have Skyfire???

Fliers are the new panic button hitter, anything that can shoot them reliably must be awesome according to the webz.
Its a lot like melta spam in 5th, everyone thought it was the be all and end all, 4 years later they discoved you had to be really close to have any real impact.

Because it is a feature of the dreadnought, not the weapons. If it stands still, the dreadnought gets skyfire and interceptor. I would recommend taking it with two twin autocannons and a cyclone if you want to take out fliers with it.

Gets the interceptor so can still shoot ground units at BS5 instead of BS1 I am guessing. It also ended up with fleet, which it doesn't have in IA Apoc 2nd ed.

Does make it even better if your opponent brings on a flier, but if they are stupid and leave within 24" of a Contemptor Mortis Pattern with the assault cannons they deserve to lose the flier. But you can always just CML 2 Krak missiles and then move and shoot the assault cannons in the following turn.
