this is a question for the paitnig and modelling forum.. but yes, if they're varnished it's hard, but if its just paint a few hours in metho and some vigorous toothbrush action will clean em up ok without melting the plastic parts (you may want to test a sample but i've stripped al sort of different GW plastic including RT era all the way through to current plastics in metho)

also some model shops have a paint stripper that is plastic safe. Metho works though and is cheaper

Oven cleaner also works wonders, and [s:50188d952f]tastes[/s:50188d952f] smells better than metho =P

I've had GW plastic in metho for 4 weeks.. no degradation and after that amount of time the paint falls off...... (if it isn't urgent). some U/C may need some brushing........

Try Mr Muscle oven cleaner, but test it on a crap model first.

Try Brake Fluid (any servo / hardware store will have it) - works on metal and plastic - might take longer with varnish. I got this tip from a US site (I think) and I thought it wouldn't work but it is fantastic.

for a metal model = acetone
plastic = brake fluid.
Those have worked for me time and time again. Although i would like to find something that works as well as brake fluid, as it's a horrid substance to have to work with. Acetone just makes your hands hyper cold.

Brake fluid is the best (IMO), after an hour it will lift most paint off plastic & metal, and it will dissolve super glue.
I don't know what affect it may have on greenstuff, however.
Just soak the model in a tin of fuild for an hour or two, then scrub with an old tooth brush. Maybe give it the model a rinse under clean water before you spray it (unless you want to wait a few days for the fluid to evaporate off it)
