Hi all,
For those that aren't aware one of the longest running online painting comps is on again, The Chick Challenge.

Also, you only have 3 days to get your 'before' shots in if you actually wish to take part. So yeah, best hurry.

So who else is entering the comp? I've been entering the Chick Challenge since the beginning and doing pretty well in it. Always a fun comp. I think Leigh is going to try and complete 2 dozen minis if that is possible, I'm almost as nuts myself will have to see how many I manage to finish in time. So far I've finished 3, lots more in progress and some Khador warjacks to do on the side as well.

24 minis? Holy crap. Wouldn't it be hilarious if Leigh won everything...
I have 4 entered at the moment. If I can complete a couple of them before the 'before' deadline, I may enter more.

Hehe. Dork.
I don't think I can be bothered doing any more than 4. Im kinda burned out in regards to painting. I have to focus on some gw minis so I can sell them on ebay. I have boxes upon boxes of them and no bloody painting urge.

i don't think i can be bothered doing ANY...
online comps just don't do it for me I'm afraid. How good you can take pics of your minis has an influence on the winning entries...

I'm doing my traditional one entry.
I'm not so much bothered about winning - it's about participating, pushing myself (deadline helps).

I agree to a certain extent wereweevil, but if you are going to enter these comps then you would want a decent digital camera. *shrug*
I doubt I will win a thing, I'm having fun entering though. It's good to have another excuse to paint non gw miniatures.

man there must be some really awesome painters out there zordana if they beat your work
Zordana
Feb 5 2005, 01:41 PM
*chuckles*
I'm incredibly flattered, cazaril. But, yeah there are some pretty damn awesome painters out there. I won't go naming them all because there are too many, suffice to say there are several painters I look up to in awe
The thing I love about the cc, is that it's all anonymous, so you don't have the problems you have with other competitions and other places. As it stands there is a tiny microscopic part of me that thinks I have a slight chance in the CC. If it wasnt anonymous, however, I know I wouldn't even be in the race.

Who...Moi?
I think I'm up to 25 entries at the moment...and its going to be a bloody long stretch. The CC is really the one painting comp I look forward to without reservation every year. I really hope that this is not the last one (or that someone carries the torch so to speak), but just in case, it is the reason for the large number of entries on my part. I've been hoarding female figs of all sorts (just ask GT) for the CC, and I suppose I don't want them to go to waste.
Besides (and no offence Zordana), it is the one chance every year that I get to paint...ahem...female...ahh...bits...without getting dirty looks off the missus. :-D

You'd be surprised. I tend to think, that apart from having better fine motor skills than men, women are generally better at this line of work. Don't ask me why, maybe it is just that little bit of extra patience, a better sense of aesthetics, or just plain old colour appreciation, but it is true.
In this comp, I'm
sure that women have a definite advantage...having a living, breathing reference point every time they look in the mirror. (And I don't mean that in a sick way either...)
And on that note...
<cue sound of scarpering before I get an electronic version of a slap in the face>

A lot of those figs came from the biggest and most impressive shopping sprees I've ever seen. I lost count of the number of stores we visited and the number of figs he bought. Needless to say - he was well set up for the Chick Challenge after that trip.

Hahaha.
You may be on to something... next time I paint a nude fig I should bring out the full-length mirror! O_o
Can you imagine?
"Gee Zor, that's a lovely distinctive little mole you've painted on her *beep*, where'd you get the inspiration for that?"
"Uh..."
So not gonna happen ;D
Hahha. And no, I don't have a lovely distinctive mole on my *beep*... whatever a *beep* is...
Seriously though, 25 minis?! Holy crap dude. I wish I had some ladies lying around, i'd have entered more, but alas I haven't received my Alice figs yet so it's a no go. I'm just stoked to be able to take part
You may be right about women being better at fine-painting in general, after all I have noticed that women tend to have better handwriting than men. That said, though, aren't women slightly outnumbered? At least I know a whole stack more men minipainters than women.. though the women are quite formidable at what they do *blows on her nails coolly*.
How is the painting coming along, anyway?
No man should need an excuse to paint boobies.

Yup, it is a great comp. Always great to see some *new* figures. And some *beep*s in the process.

6 pairs of boobies down...3 half finished.
Only 16 more pairs to go...
Just as well I'm not a leg man... :-o

'Pairs'. This thread is starting to sound very strange
QUOTE
What The! Thanks for the mental image... Laughing
No worries, mate
Jeebs, how many
did you put in rob?
I ran out of boobies, unfortunately. Let's hope this isn't the last competition.
As of this moment I have 1 pair half done, 1 pair 1/4 done, 2 done save for bases, and I have NO idea what I am going to do for bases.
Well, actually, I do have an idea but no idea how to pull it off. They will probably end up with plain crappy bases because I suck at sculpting. *sobs*
I tried sculpting the other day... it was not pretty. Then I read that you are supposed to let the green stuff harden a little before screwing around with it. *sigh*
Either of you doing multiple entries of the same mini?
Im still waiting for the Ral Partha comp to be over. *twiddles her thumbs*

Wow, what a thread.
HAhah good luck guys and girl. I would enter, but I can't seem to find the time to paint anymore these days... inspiration is also a little down.
Dang fiannas, also put me off painting 'chicks' for the forseeable future. And for the record, IMO for girl models (Apart from faces) hips and asses are what I find the most fun to paint... hahah have to make it look flawless and firm but soft. *chuckles*
Time I better keep quiet before this gets embarassing.

Hahaha. I like those 'rotund' areas too. Nice to paint.
2 sets down 2 to go, and a bloody busy social plan for the weekend.
Reckon I can get the 3rd set done, but might be rushing the fourth.
How's everyone else going?

Sets?
I'm going ok. I have 3 finished and waiting to be photographed.
1 that is almost finished, but I hate the base so I dont know what im gonna do about that.
1 that needed some base sculptwork, but im in the middle of painting that now, so it will be done once that's painted.

Feb 17 2005, 03:55 PM
I've finished 9 so far and am very happy with my warmachine efforts , 1 more at the almost done stage, another 1 at about half way. Then there is the rest

with only a few more days it's looking grim for the end of the que. Especially since I totally burnt out last night and painted nothing :-o

I'm happy to say that I am finished, finito, done. All 5 entries I am happy with, actually I lie, im happy with 3, incredibly happy with 1 and a bit 'meh' in regards to the other. But you get that
Just gotta go photograph them now.

Still going...
I suppose at least I can say that I account for 5% of the total entries...?
All four sets of mine are done
Photo's sent in as I did them, so the last one is in my outbox at the moment.
And Carpo, you've got until tonight our time to still fit in in for Sunday Jason's time

Any of you guys voted yet?
I got my rather large email in the other day, took a while but I managed to comment on all the miniatures I listed.
Fun
Cant wait to see who painted what.
Rob_Jedi
Mar 10 2005, 04:00 PM
I haven't voted yet, so many to decide from. BTW I got 11 finished in the end.
I've emailed in each category seperately so far, have made it down to Bases and am currently sorting through Fantasy for today. Been doing it between jobs and on coffee breaks, so sending each in seperately makes sense and means I wont forget to send in one big email and then everyone misses out on my votes
BTW Zor, what did you mean by you co mmented on all the miniatures you listed? Did you email Jason a comment on the miniatures you had actually entered or did you mean something else?
Rob, I got 4 finished in the end, and I think I've picked two of yours so far.

I just mean I commented on all the miniatures I voted for.
When you guys say you got 11 and 4 finished in the end, is that the amount you had in before shots or did you end up having to ditch some?
I just did my 5.

Mar 10 2005, 08:42 PM
I'd love to have the time to vote on some of the models, but it is simply too time consuming! Too many models, too cumbersome a voting method.
Funny though how you can spot certain painters work a mile away, particularly when you look at basing, colour choices and photography.
I could pick out at least four different painters work from around these parts
Zordana
Mar 10 2005, 08:57 PM
I dont mind the voting system, i think since it takes a while to vote and comment you are gonna do it properly and put some effort into it.
I suck at picking out painters minis. Well most.

Mar 11 2005, 12:32 AM
Does anyone know how many 'after' entries Jason ended up getting?
Zor: I planned 4 and did 4.
And nup no idea how many afters Jason got, nor anyway to check as his site has crashed - probably due to over use of bandwidth.

Yeah I noticed that today. Glad I got my votes all done earlier.
Did you read the Alexi debacle on cmon's forums? *shakes her head*
Poor Jason.
Hopefully the site gets back up and running soon.
Yep had a read of it after Inge's prompt on the Jenova board. The word "Tool" comes to mind.
The first pic I can understand, and maybe not her fault (but no word from darksondesigns in regards to permission about posting the pic.) I had specifically noted that hers was the only one missing from darksondesigns website about three weeks ago.
The second pic - her own fault. Madness to say the least.
Here's hoping Jason resolves his problem with the website, I'm still only half way through the Fantasy section.
Cheers,
