Very nice about a year ago I took abvantage of a bulk buy of the 80 odd paints in the reaper range from mil sims.
Only problem is I havnt used many of the lighter colours (probually more suitable for fantasy).
Cheers Scott

I like the light colours.
Once i get Reapers ill have a nice assortment.
I ended up getting mine from the uk, it worked out cheaper than getting them here, even with the postage.

I've been using Vallejo for a while and I still haven;t gotten the hang of them. I much prefer Reaper myself but for a talented artist like yourself Vallejo are probably the better option.

Well, I have to say Derivan seems to be the way for me. Still tinkering with them to get the exact mix etc, but I am starting to like them.
Not an overnight love affair though...but I guess it has to be as I bought an entire set in one go!
Gratz on the purchase, it is nice lining them up and looking at them

They're 17ml but there's much more pigment than GW ones.

Derivan were too expensive for poor ole me.
Ive wanted some vallejo for a while now so I figured it was about time I bought myself a set of paints and they were the top of my list.
Next is Reaper Masters because ive heard they are smooooooooth, especially the white.
I might just buy a reaper masters white to tide me over till I can afford another set of paints.

You pros, I dunno. I figure out a colour scheme then buy a few pots of paint. Most of my armies use undercoat then no more than 4 other colours. I've been using reaper paints too, I like them. But unfortunately the local store decided not to stock them any more, so now my paint collection has seen some derivans infiltrating...

Whoo! Congratulations
I had a very similar feeling when I unpacked my vallejos a couple of months back - I've never owned a whole set before. I still use a decent number of other paints, but the big paintbox is great fun to use...

Woo, I see you got the UK Alice set too, painted any yet?

There is nothing like a new set of paints, regardless of the brand.
It is like all your dreams come true as you look at a complete set paint.
If only I had the time to paint!

Haha Gop, this is my first set of paints. Prior to this I was just purchasing gw pots here and there. The only other paints I own (a couple of reaper pots) were given to me by a client. So im pretty stoked to finally have a proper set. About time i say!
Morsla, I didn't get the set with the paint case. Worked out to be too expensive for me. I just went with this one cause the price was great and the service was also

I might just make my own storage system, bunnings has some jigsaws for $39, maybe ill grab one of those and go craaazy.
Rob: Yeaaah! Aren't they cool? Gotta love Kev's Alice. Only problem is the massive mold line mine has down her arm. The mushroom diorama rocks as well.

I haven't actually painted any yet, I keep looking at them all excited like, though... if that counts. Hehe.
*sticks her tongue out at gonzo*
Willy, im sure I can find some good use for the fluoro green, might be good on weapons. So very bright
I'm gonna try the paints out properly today. Ill keep you posted when I paint my first vgc mini. Woot. *runs off*

Hey Zordana, Congrats on the purchase, looks so lovely all lined up like that. Any chance you could tell us who you got them through, was it an on line reseller or straight from the manufacturer?
Anyway have fun :-P

No way BWS! I love my fluoro green, it's the best thing for instrument panels and lights. Stick it next to goblin green to contrast between a lit and an off green light, old skool green computer displays, eye-catching lines on black radar screens and auspex.
My next part time job I've calculated my pay in minis/hr, but it may just all go to get that Derivan paint set.
It's afternoon by my watch Zor, where's the first painted mini?

Scotto, i got them through Gamers Quest in the UK. $220 aud including postage. I get a discount now though cause im ultra cool *wink*
Steve, hmm I did a couple of minis with a mix of gw and vallejo paints, but id say that My Hero was probably the first full vallejo mini... unless im forgetting another mini... I did use a lot of vallejo on Val and Oonagh too.

Wow. Lottsa skin, very nice.
Wait I didn't mean it was nice 'cos there was lots of skin, I meant skin is hard to do and that has lots of it and it looks great. The tatt looks good too.
I'd ask for a good skin tone comparitive shot of his hand on her ass, but that might sound too pervy!
Such great work, an inspiration to me, keep it up.

mmm ive gotta try these other (non citadel) paints. Im trying to get some of these derrivan paints to see what they are like. With Vallejo paints are they available at hobby shops or do u have to order them via mail? either i havent seen them at hobby stores or im not looking hard enough.
Good on ya zor i look forward to seeing ur new work with these paints

I don't know, Castigo. I just bought them from the uk cause it worked out a hell of a lot cheaper than buying them over here.
Cheers, mate

Ah, the Game colour range. Such a superior formula to the Model colour range. Shakes up easily each time, unlike the gluggy Model colour range (or any other brand that i've used - citadel, reaper). Strong pigments, finer granules, smooth to use. Here's to hoping they change the huge Model colour range to the new formula.
This 'Reaper Masters' range sounds interesting. Might have to read up on it.

its a good feeling having them isnt it?

Jealous. Very very jealous here.
I've got a massive paint collection - probably 150 pots plus. However, most of them are crap, with a few old tamiya colours which are fine for military models but bad on gaming minis, old humbrol enamels (useless for figures!) and a significant number of the ghastly humbrol acrylics (anyone else remember those?). I've got about 60 GW paints which do me nicely, but I'm trying to change my stock over to Vallejo. That pic of all those lovely paints is only tempting me more...
SynapsyS
Mar 25 2005, 12:42 PM
Whoa.
I myself have about 60 odd GW paints and only a handful of Vallejos, but i really love the quality you get with vallejo - especially because i tend to neglect my water and so my paints tend to get pretty grotty over time (my old GW Skull white, may you rest in colourful peace). Vallejo paints are sick, highly reccomended from me.
Zordana, you realise that tactics in perth stock all the Game colours and a lot of the Model colours as well? Just thought you'd like to know when you need a top up

I think they might sell reaper paints too, i'll have to have a look when i'm next in.
Zordana
Mar 25 2005, 01:44 PM
Yeah I figured they did. I never get into the city though.
Plus It works out cheaper for me to get them from gamersquest with a bunch of minis or whatever I happen to need at the time
Let me know if they sell Reaper Masters, I want a tub of white.
Hahah i neglect my water too!! *high fives*
*whispers* just dont stir it up too much, then the crap stays on the bottom
SynapsyS
Mar 26 2005, 06:34 PM
Wow, now that you mention it, that is a rather cool trick - after i take a break for a couple of weeks from painting, it always takes a million rinses to clean my water cup. *looks suspiciously at cup*.
I might be going in next weekend. Or not. No idea really. But if i do, i'll try to remember to look for them and i'll pm you if i find anything.
Nice painting in the other thread(s) btw, you need to start painting 40k stuff, then i'll know if you're as good as me or not
Zordana
Mar 26 2005, 07:18 PM
Hahaha. Well, im waiting on my mini for the insurgent comp. That will officially devirginate me in regards to 40k
And cheers, if you happen to see a pot of Reaper Masters White and feel like posting it off to me im happy to pay you. That's just how lazy I am *chuckle*
