For the Winter Season of Escellation I have the follow terrain to construct. Its all for specific scenarios, but most if not all of them are usable outside of these scenarios:
8" wide river and the bridges to cross them (WIP)
4" by 4" tower (40mm door)
4" by 5" ruined buildings (50mm doors/gaps)
Cryx mining rigs
10" wide road
Low walls
Menoth Shrine 6" by 3" (40mm door)
Stelae of Cyriss 1" dai 3" high
High walls
2" pillar
Ruined Crucible Buildings min 3" by 5" (50mm doors)

WIP on the River and Bridges:

these river sections will fit a Y shape in them as well as sit all three across 4' of table. They are being built to travel.

What are they made of:
Craftwood base, with craftwood banks, a small amount of sand and some water based resin.
The bridges are made using pre made railway bridges, made by Atlas, and available in Hobby shops in Australia for under $15. All bridges have to be modified to be made large enough (8" wide, 10" across).

This is the base river section, with a collection of half done banks siting on it:

A mostly completed river bank section, I need to hit the outside of the peice with a sander to slope it up to the banks.

All three straight sections together:

How wide is an 8 inch bridge? Here it is sitting on the river, currently its just the sides and a plasticard frame, on which I will be laying balsa wood planks. I will be building up the sides using blue foam to give it bases on either side of the river. These bridges will probably be used for 40k as well, and the tank drivers will love them smile.gif

Close up details on the bracing I put across the bottom of the bridge. Pre made plastic card I beams. They really gave the structure a lot more strength.

Uh Oh, the plate girder bridge was one peice!!!!!

30 minutes later, I had carefully cut off one side... this would have been a lot quicker but I am trying to save the bed sections to use for infantry sized bridges.

Thats it for now, more updates to come.

Very cool smile.gif What are you planning to do the river surface with? Paint/varnish or resin?

I hope your MDF doesn't warp - it all looks great so far.
cyroMAX
i am going to be doing a paint varnish to begin with, and practice resin on another piece first

OK the rivers were done in time to play on them, just:

Here are some more detailed shots of the river sections and bridges:

the rivers meet up well:

the bridges:
these are the three basic peices that make up the bridge:

its simply sits on top of the ramp piece:

like that.

The second bridge:

There are small bevels cut in the front section of the ramp so it fits against the width of the river section. I will have to fill these yet, as the ramps need to be based on wood, to give them a little more weight, and it will also raise them nicely to the level of the river.

the river then simply fits on:

The bridges bore up well to the weight of a couple of heavies on them (centurions in this case) but probably need a little bit more bracking underneath with the I beams.

Looking good so far. Can I ask why you made the bridges so wide though? They almost look as wide as long, is it so it's useable in 40K as well (I presume a landraider would fit on those).
cyroMAX
it is 8 inchs wide, and that was a requirement for the terrain size from the scenario it was made for. Having played on it now, I can see the terrain allowed the variety of bases the ability to do more interesting things on the bridges, as well as making it more of a challenge to hold the bridge, you couldn't do it with one warjack figure.

Though I tried wink.gif

Looks like it all came up really nice. I'd add some more gloss varinsh to the river though as it doesn't look shiny enough (could just be the pics).

Is there some benefit in having the bringes in 3 pieces? I figure there must be yet I can't think of any reason for doing it.
cyroMAX
I can mix and match pieces and they are easier to transport
Cannonball
Well done and grats.

Now paint those minis!
