Hi guys.

Insurgent #1 is now available from the downloads page - grab a copy now!

Please use this thread for comments and feedback on the issue - I'm always open to suggestions, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the 'zine.
ShasEl Tael
Looks great, reads well and the articles we kick-a$$ compared to more recent articles for Wahammer40k tat I've read. I for one scream out for conversion and painting articles! smile.gif

Only obvious issue for is;
To make the mag more readeable from opening is this;

Currently it is set at 205%, which pretty much fills your screen with the Insurgent logo. If you dont' know already, you can preset your scaling in the file.

Using File > Document Properties > Open Options..

select the magnification property and type in 125% then save the file.

125% is pretty much the best legiable average for PDF files. Type it in the PDF reader window and you'll get about 2/3rds of the mag in one go and its quite readable and not so in your face.

Also, look into creating page links within the document, you can set the index headers to be clickable and take a reader to the appropriate page.

Goto > Chain Link Icon on toolbar > markout a box over the text > set to invisible, no highlight and then using the page arrows move to the appropriate page, then 'Set Link'

This is a quick way of interlinking your magazine wink.gif

hope this helps as you learn the PDF ropes. Should you need any PDF help, give me a shout Morsla

Great work getting this together, look forward to helping you in future issues.

Great work.......

Good set of initial articles.

Tourney prep was great for first timers like me......

Also loved the article on lighhting up necrons.....gave me some ideas for my Tau tanks.

Ogryn conversion aslo good as it fits in nicely with the CA article in this months WD.

Keep up the good work!

Awesome - thanks Seb smile.gif I've only used the software for four days (five including the touch-up early this morning), so I'm looking for more ways to use all those features.

I'll look into adding links in all the future issues - it's a feature that I really appreciate when I buy roleplaying books in PDF format. Once I figure it out, I may upload a version 1.1 for this issue - no content change (for those who have already downloaded it) but with a linked menu.

Hadn't thought about scaling the image - it's displaying at 150% in my browser window. I'll keep that in mind.

Ulrik - yeah, I think I tapped into the WD hive mind at some stage... I had just finished writing my Ogryn article when I heard about the new White Dwarf smile.gif My catachan ogryn are all painted now - I'll put a photo in the next issue.

Whats in line for next one or do you need articles/ideas?
ShasEl Tael
I guess 150% is your PDF maker's default presently.

the 125% that you hard wire into the file is permanent and all Adobe Readers bow to its rule. So in a simple step you ensure visual usability across all platforms.

Also, this allows you to really crunch your PDF file size, so that if someone was to zoom in more than say 175%, it would start to pixellate. ie. You can stuff more in at lower resolution once you control your scaling automatically. wink.gif

Would you consider section icons ? (slavering at the bit as he types this..)

Just in case I didnt mention, it's a great first issue, to all involved.
Lord_Ulrik
ge the man some medicine ...quick!
morsla
Sure - icons sound good smile.gif

I'll definitely take a look at scaling presets - I'm aiming on most issues being around 16-20 pages, so keeping the filesize down will be handy. Pixellation at high magnification shouldn't have any effect on (100% size) printing, should it? I'm trying not to compromise print quality too much, just in case people want hardcopies. I'm guessing that most people will just view it on a monitor, though.

Ulrik - well, we should have at least one ready-to-use tournament scenario from the competition... I'll be posting details in a new thread later this week. I also have the first in a series of one-page articles on tournament ideas, from a local Tournament Organiser. There are more modelling ideas, but they're under wraps at the moment wink.gif
ShasEl Tael
Sounds good, could you email me a list of your sections (and future ones) and I will get stuck in and design some sections icons for you to choose from. smile.gif

Morsla, an excellent read all round! It also printed very nicely in booklet mode (on works color laserjet), so I can carry my A5 copy of insurgent around in my pocket - YAY!

All articles are excellent and kudos to all the contributors. The Ogryns were especially nice though, it would be good to see them lined up with some catachans for scale.
Blue Cypher
This has the making of a really good ezine and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them.

Also, I know how much effort you put into it & I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say thanks & job well done mate!
Zordana
I liked it. I didn't read the entire thing but it looked good to me smile.gif

I found the font used for the contents a little 'meh', but aside from that, its lovely Morsla smile.gif
rat of vengence
Sweet! I have my first Tourney coming soon, and there is the article on newbies to tournies! Talk about timing. I second the praise on the ogres, nice stuff. Catachan really works for them. Maybe we could have an article on making Landspeeders fit together (pet rant of the week).
Barone
Much better than the WD, especially with all the 40k articles tongue.gif

Maybe I should send my $10 to Morsla instead of buying the GW crap tongue.gif

Eight out of ten.

I tend to be more interested in the tactical aspect of 40k then modelling, but those modelling articles were quite good.
cazaril
i agree.. this is the sort of thing worth paying money for...
straylight
well done Ben, sweet to see it come together, the work involved was substantial and it was well thought out, nice balance and Steve is a freak....

great logo too ShasEl Tael......very, very speccy......

nice compilation of articles....want a hot wire cutter article for the next one Ben ? The definitive how to ? :-D

Thought of a feature army too.......contact Tim Luckman, or Ghetti, or someone from Liber, a short interiew, philosophy, conversions, really give WD a run for it's money. Pity GD has gone, Insurgent coverage of that would be a whoot !! laugh.gif

Thanks Straylight, I enjoyed working on it.

Coverage of the GD would have been fun, just purchased a high end digicam. Leaves my ol' 5mil-pixel for dust.

I do alot of converting myself, which hinders my army making ability alot. I'd be inclined to add an article when I get time. That and a good way of painting Tau, as the GW way is rather difficult for a first timer.
morsla
Stu - a hot-wire cutter article would be fantastic. We'll probably have two terrain-building features, so the wire cutter would round out a terrain "theme" nicely smile.gif
SynapsyS
ShasEl Tael, you wouldn't be the guy who painted the tan and teal Tau for the Korvash comp would you? I reckon your painting is so clean and clear its scary. I'd love to see an article on your methods for painting Tau.
