Hi All,
Below is my test figure for a unit of beastmen I'm painting. As you can see, I've gone with a black skin tone which I think will come up pretty well once I've finished highlighting.
The problem I have is that I'm not sure what to do with the fur. Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
CúChullain

nice idea witht he black skin. For the fur maybe whiteish drenched with blood (white with red 'tips' to contrast the black) don't know how this would work but it seems ok in my head

nah... just go all out red fur
will contrast well with the skin

I thought maybe a dark brown fading out to a chestnut brown near the edges. that way it would fit in with the dark skin, but give definition to the fur/skin interface.
Or am I thinking too hard about all this....?

A light grey/white would contrast the skin tones really well. I'd try to stick to a fairly light colour. My other suggestion would be a bone or tan.

i like to try and keep the beasts looking natural and earthy, so consider deep reds that get to be a strong firey orange at the tips perhaps?
i also think a soft blue grey would look very cool too. that would actually make it the reverse of the scheme i'm using for my own beasts - see the earlier thread in here for a couple of photos.

Ok, I tried the blue/grey option and couldn't get that to work for me, so a went for the brown/orange option and am pretty happy with how that's turned out

I started with orc brown than did sequential washes with chestnut then brown then orange ink, and finished off with some orange dry brushing near the ends of the fur.

yep, that looks very cool.
gotta say, you're a brave man painting over a white undercoat.

Why's that?

i hate painting over white. compared to black its less forgiving when you make a screwup, it's harder to build your colours up, makes shading trickier, and is just a far less forgiving undercoat imo.
