Has anyone played Warmaster Ancients? How was it? Does it have an optimum scale or size of game?

It's an excellent game, though from what I can gather not widely played in Australia.

Optimum size for games would appear to be 1,000 points (based on tournaments run in the UK that I have read about). For an 'expensive' army, such as EIR, this will require something in the order of 10-15 units (30 - 45 stands) of troops plus commanders.

Though it is intended for 10mm scale, most people will probably use existing DBx based 15mm armies to play it, which requires some relatively minor adjustments. You could even use 1/72 plastics, which have the advantage of being very cheap.

If you are keen to learn more, join the Warmaster Historical Yahoo group. The next supplement is apparently a medieval one.
